They say imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
There are many cases of imitation in pro wrestling – The Huckster / Nacho Man and the KISS Demon are two examples. But none may be more famous than “Gillberg”.
In the late 90′s, while Bill Goldberg was defeating opponents left and right in WCW, Duane Gill, packaged as “Gillberg”, imitated pretty much every facet of Goldberg’s character and mannerisms.
The only thing is, Bill Goldberg didn’t quite find it amusing.
In our 30+ minute conversation with Duane Gill, we talk everything about “Gillberg” – how it came about, was he surprised at how long it lasted, especially how Goldberg “hates him” and didn’t like the impression at all. We also touch on the rest of his career in WWE and his wrestling school.
