Dud of the Week: David Otunga

Way to make a comeback.

It’s a foregone conclusion that John Laurinaitis messed up royally on RAW on Monday. Johnny Ace could easily be this weeks Dud of the Week. You can read why in my reaction to his Big Show contract signing flub from earlier this week. But the honour of Dud of the Week goes to his legal advisor David Otunga! Re-live his greasy boobs up againts John Cena to open up RAW.

I should point out that Otunga hasn’t been on WWE television for a few weeks and he decided to make his grand return running away from John Cena for the first 2 minutes of this match. For someone who walked out wearing a window curtain and flexing at the top of the entrance ramp with such confidence he sure looked like a grade A coward. Otunga has some of the worst offence in the WWE right now. His punches and forearms look terrible. He’s also not very good at taking a punch. Otunga always look like he’s just a half step off in any match.

After the running and sad attempt at offence from Otunga, Cena pretty much mops the floor with him. If you minus the running around in this match, Cena wins in about 45 seconds with Otunga tapping out from the STF before you can say “Travel Mug”. Nice way to make a return to the ring David.

I would love to see Otunga become more like IRS. Wear the sweater and bow-tie in the ring. The travel coffee mug should be Otunga’s metal briefcase. Many in the WWE Universe say that Mr. Jennifer Hudson should be in line for a United States Title run but I say he’s far from being able to complete at a championship level with his in ring ability. Until he watches some Irwin R. Schyster matches Otunga is the Dud of the Week.

Not even close.

Nailed it!

WWE.com has released an exclusive backstage clip of RAW General Manager John Laurinaitis justifying his Big Show contract signing flub from last nights RAW opening segment. Click here to check out the video!

Seems like Laurinaitis and Show only had a verbal agreement on Saturday and the two agreed on a contract at 11:02 on Sunday night after Over The Limit. Allow me to break down some holes in that scenario…

1. Instead of getting medical attention for his injuries suffered at the hands of John Cena, Laurinaitis decided it would be a good idea to get into a lengthy contract discussion with Big Show? That makes no sense.

2. If Mr. Excitement already had a verbal agreement with Big Show prior to Over The Limit then why was he afraid of him in the ring when he first came out?

3. You’d think that if that was the true explanation for Big Show’s interference somebody would have stopped Michael Cole from announcing that  the contract was signed on Monday morning.

4. David Otunga should know that even a verbal agreement is enough to make the argument that Big Show should be dismissed by the board of directors. (Triple H?)

5. How did Big Johnny find the time to buy that scooter?

So, as you can see WWE and Johnny Ace are just digging themselves deeper and deeper into the logic hole. Does anyone know why Tensai is no longer a Lord? Of course not. No one likes satisfying justification anyhow.

Smile, you're the Match of the Night!

Once against RAW didn’t supply a lot of matches but rather a series of moments leading up to the donnybrook that that was the main event lumberjack match. Some strong consideration went into the match set up by CM Punk pinning Daniel Bryan against Kane but the thought of putting Kane in a match of the night just doesn’t feel right. So I went with my gut and picked John Cena vs. David Otunga! Randy Orton vs. Alberto Del Rio!

It was an awkward, drawn out opening with Santino confronting Ricardo Rodriguez then doing a pretty funny version of Ricardo’s introduction for Del Rio but I found the whole segment took far too long. Kudos to the crowd for sitting through 10 minutes of Alberto’s entrance music. More later, let’s get to the match!

PART I

PART II

“You should see Del Rio’s garage in Mexico. It’s loaded. One person takes care of each individual vehicle.” – Michael Cole

“Really?” – Jerry Lawler

SIDE NOTE: Michael Cole once again saves the day with some justification on John Laurinaitis’ flub about The Big Show’s new contract from earlier in the night.

I think it’s fair to say that the Fatal Four Way match at Over The Limit was good but definitely forgettable. Having the two Superstars who weren’t pinned having a match on RAW is a given.

Orton and Del Rio did a really good job of getting the crowd back into it after such a long lull in the action. The match had a bit of a slow start but once Orton warms up in there you know the second half is going to be stellar. Although I feel like it’s about time The Apex Predator acquired a new move set. Keep the powerslam but maybe consider changing up the ring rope DDT.

I always like seeing Del Rio pick apart opponents and work on the arm. It’s a small thing that is just logical for who he is and what his finishing submission is. The Mexican Aristocrat took a pretty nasty spill when he leapt outside the ring through the ropes. I don’t know if this leaves him as the number one contender for the World Title. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Over course we don’t get a clean finish thanks to Chris Jericho running in dropping a Code Breaker on Orton setting up a rivalry we were all hoping for. A good match with a great run in capped off by a three pack of Code Breakers made this contest the Match of the Night!

WWE has added a “People’s Power Battle Royal” to the Over the Limit PPV tonight. The winner will face either U.S. champion Santino or Intercontinental champion Cody Rhodes later in the PPV. WWE made the announcement through their text messaging service earlier today.

No word on who exactly will be involved in the match up but I would love to see someone like Miz get another shot at that United States Title against Santino. Maybe Brodus Clay going up against Cody Rhodes for the IC Title? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Great Khali’s legs don’t break when he gets thrown over the top ropes.

Who knows maybe Ryback will finally get a chance to have a match with a legitimate Superstar in the WWE?

"Congrats on the baby. Now, let's do handstands and watch videos on the Internet."

Here is a video Cody Rhodes posted on his Twitter. Really nice congratulations to Ted DiBiase on his new baby. After that it’s some kind of weird ramblings about how to make the WWE United States championship look better. Sure, Cody has it on his babe wife who is washing his truck in a bikini while his entrance music plays.

This is going to need a little spice.

Whether you’re looking forward to John Cena vis “Big Johnny” John Laurinaitis this Sunday at Over The Limit or not, it is the Main Event and that’s not going to change. I will say that the build up to this match up has been less than stellar. After John Cena read a list of match stipulations given to him by Eve, written by the Board of Directors (Triple H?) I was about 3% more excited to see these two go at it. That’s a total of 4%. The stipulations read out by Cena include, if Laurinaitis loses, he is fired. If anyone interferes, they’re fired and NO special guest referee is the cherry on top of a “who cares” sundae. But after thinking long and hard about it, the possibilities this could actually be a shocking end to a PPV that no one is really talking about.

With the WWE having Superstars quit, get fired and make comebacks like nobody’s business in recent months we’re sure to see something BIG happen to make everyone say “Damn, I wish I saw that!”. It’s a perfect recipe for some major run ins! Here’s my Top 5 possible Superstar interferences!

5. Big Show

He was recently fired and hates John Laurinaitis. What better way to redeem himself from the pathetic display we saw on RAW on Monday? He’s no longer employed by the WWE, I say make that walk to the ring and drop a WMD on Big Johnny’s neck. It’s a stupid decision to knock out your boss but he’s not your boss anymore! “Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!” – Dumb and Dumber

4. David Otunga

The legal council of Mr. John Laurinaitis hasn’t had much to do recently and he probably needs to get back in Big Johnny’s good books. I’m sure if anyone tries to fire him he’ll be able to see some type of legal loophole to get out of it. I can see him jumping in, getting a forearm in on Cena before getting laid out with an Attitude Adjustment on the Spanish announce table. That’ll teach him for taking time off to be a lawyer for his celebrity wife!

3. Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman

He quit and wants revenge on Cena after Extreme Rules. This would make complete sense. You’d think with all of the Paul Heyman appearances that the WWE would also try and capitalize on on the Brock / Heyman signings as much as possible. He’s also not an employee of the WWE. The only question is who will he be interfering for? I’m sure he’s none to please with how Laurinaitis handled his contract. Maybe he has a new found respect for Cena? Ah, who am I kidding? That’s not true.

2. Lord Tensai

This one seems obvious. He already has a pin-fall against Cena and he’s pretty much Laurinaitis’ number one henchmen. Plus, is it really interference if you just spit green mist? How does he even know he’s not allowed to get involved in the match? By his interviews, it seems like Lord Tensai doesn’t speak or understand English any more. I liked Lord Tensai better when he was a hairy dude with body piercings. Wait… No I don’t. It wouldn’t be the first time I was disappointed seeing Lord Tensai walk down the ramp.

1. Batista

This rumour has been swirling since WrestleMania. This is way out of left field but, would it be great? I really don’t have a logical reason for how or why this could happen but, with WWE scooping up a bunch of Attitude Era Superstars I don’t think it’s completely out of the realm of possibility. It’s also one of those big things that would have people who didn’t buy Over The Limit on PPV regretting it. It’s the WWE, anything can happen. It’s unbelievable etc…

lucky son of a...

Forbes magazine published an article today on WWE Superstar The Rock being part of this years Forbes 100 celebrity list for the first time. The magazine estimates that Dwayne Johnson made upwards of 36 million dollars and his movies grossed 2.3 billion dollars world wide last year.

Here’s what The Rock had to say in the article.

“That’s the wonderful part about being in this business. I love knowing the audience and listening to the audience. Oh, and kicking a little ass, too… It reached a point where I felt that instead of me trying to conform to Hollywood, I needed to have Hollywood conform to me and embrace my past.”

There’s also a great video interview Forbes did with The Rock. Have a watch!

There is no doubt that The Rock is a massive draw and I think it’s safe to say that the WWE Universe is a big part in that. The connection to his success in the ring and into films is very interesting. He also seems like a great guy on set who directors and producers want to work with.

Sounds like Superstar who appreciates hard work at all levels. He’s handles his career very well and the futute can only get brighter for the brahma bull.
