Nobody in Europe could beat Barcelona in 2011 and now we know, nobody in the world could either. Barcelona capped off another year of dominance Sunday morning adding the FIFA Club World Cup to the trophy cabinet with an incredibly convincing 4-0 win over Copa Libertadores champions Santos.
The contest was one sided from the get go. Barcelona didn’t allow Ganso and Borges a second on the ball and were it not for the regular shot’s of a frustrated looking Neymar, you wouldn’t even have known the Brazilian wonder striker was on the pitch.
Lionel Messi was superb on the night, scoring twice and running around the Santos defense like pylons. Cesc Fabregas and Xavi added to the onslaught. Barca took a 3-0 advantage into the break so the only real surprise on Sunday was that Barcelona didn’t score more.
Qatari club, and Asian champions, Al-Sadd claimed third place beating the hosts Kashiwa Reysol 5-3 on penalties after a scoreless 120 minutes.
