BMO Field in July?

Or at least that’s the going rumour right now on the Twitter:

Which is great, right? Premier League opponent, chance for Toronto FC to shine against one of England and Europe’s most storied football clubs (with Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez and Maxi Rodriguez no doubt “injured” on a beach in Ibiza), a summer football celebration!

Or not:

And…Dobson’s right. Aston Villa was nice for the tiny minority of Southern Ontario and GTA-based supporters to come out and have a little party, but LFC is a BIG CLUB. Many Toronto FC supporters are also LFC supporters, and TFC’s supporters culture overlaps Liverpool’s in more ways than one (“Reds”). Sure it’s a friendly, but coming as it is in the middle of a poor season, a BMO Field packed with rowdy LFC supporters cheering on their team as they take Toronto FC apart isn’t going to set the pulse racing for Toronto’s professional club…

  1. Objection for aesthetic reasons alone. You have to believe Liverpool isn’t going to want to play in their change kits.

  2. This will be a great chance for the acadamy kids to play against some of EPL’s best. Simple as that.

If Frings, Lambe, Silva, Johnston or Eckersley play more then 15-20mins it will be another big mistake from Winter and TFC.

  3. Terrible idea. As a season seat holder I have no tolerance for this kind of thing.

  4. A great chance to see a quality of play that we never get to witness. Even if they send the reserves and 2 or 3 name players it will be great to watch. and hell, if there is a prem team we have a shot in hell of beating it’s these choke artists.

Remember Real? we got smoked but man it was fun to see Ronaldo tear down the wing and whip in a great cross for Raul to slam home. (still hate the SoaB Divaldo but he can play when he stays on his feet)

    75′ Gabe Gala………..Raúl 13′

    …………………………..Cristiano Ronaldo 19′

    …………………………….Raúl 26′

    …………………………….Karim Benzema 65′

    …………………………….Arjen Robben 86′

  5. If it wasn’t Liverpool I’d be really angry about this. But these are my two favorite teams. I can honestly cheer for any goal scored.

  6. How sad is it that TFC might actually be considered the favourite…

    • are you mad ? LFC reserve squad would destroy TFC first team and probably most of the MLS . MLS is a stain on world football

      • Is that why Kanas City beat Manchester United?

        • I am in the same boat as Chris…I can’t hate it…

          • A stadium full of LFC supporters (hopefully myself included) would be a fantastic message to MLSE: this franchise exists primarily because you’re leveraging fan support for other clubs around the world, and trusting the people will love TFC as much as they love their “other” clubs. And if that’s what you want, you better make damn sure TFC is a winner one day….

        • Exactly, and LFC is barely deserving of their current league standing.

Taking away stars who either won’t make the trip (keep in mind it’s also a Euro year), or won’t be with this Liverpool squad come July, I see no reason TFC wouldn’t be able to beat ‘pool.

  7. It will be demanded in the contract that Liverpool at least start most of their names, might not play full games, but will see the field. Also consider this is in the thick of the pre-season, they will be getting their first XI ready (assuming Kenny knows what it is by then.)

  8. Great … another distraction for TFC.

LFC can bring some other team over and play them instead. TFC have to sort out their own problems right now … you know, in games that actually count.

  9. if a frings, kov, johnson, plata or cann get injuried mlse might as well legally change the s in mlse to $ because there going to be raked over the coals. If we want a friendly vs liverpool how bout going to england in feb during our preseason to play???? you think a big europiean club would throw an extra game in the mix to accomadate a friendly with an mls side in preseason mode they would laugh them out of the country. if mls wants these glammer friendlies then take a lg wide week off and have them played then that way they can have a big match on espn everynight instead of rearranging mls games to accomadate euro clubs looking to make some $$$$$$$$

  10. When did Luke Wileman and Gerry Dobson become trusted sources? These guys are wrong far more than they’re ever right. Maybe Dobbo is mixing up clubs that wear red like he does black players. This has been rumoured for weeks. I’ll believe it when I see it.

  11. The game isn’t eveb sanctioned yet. No approval and no tickets on sale. Ticket Master jumped the gun….

  12. So excited for this match! A true celebration of soccer- our local team playing against one of ESL’s greatest. I’m still trying to decide who I’m going to cheer for.
