Cue the “Now we’ll never know if he can play with Gerrard!” guffaws. While the Twitter machine seems to have already announced his replacement, Sam Wallace reports there’s been a delay from official approval from UEFA, who apparently won’t allow a last-minute replacement unless the injury was not “underlying”:

Roy Hodgson’s already getting crapped on for choosing the disappointing Liverpool player (although Downing is still in the squad), but he was hardly spoiled for choice, was he?
Anyway, the Euros is turning into the 2010-11 Liverpool FC versus the European selects.
Is Glen Johnson going? Carroll, Henderson, and Downing….it least this will make Dalglish’s firing more explicable
