It just fuckin sucks. Two canadian born players that play at a high level would really create a buzz for the Canadian team. Not to mention they would also give the team a huge boost. It just sucks to know that either one of those guys could really turn this team into a solid, consistant contender for World Cup Qualification and also serious Gold Cup contenders.

But in all honesty, does anyone really believe, when they watch this interview by Sharms, that Bert van Marwijk will actually select Jonathan to play for the Dutch first team? If he says that he made his decision back in 2008 to play for the Netherlands, than why hasn’t he ever gotten a cap for the Dutch. If he committed to Canada, he would be in the starting XI each and every match.

Its a bit of a sad stoy because doesnt have a Canadian passport, because he gave it up for a Dutch citizenship and can’t get a Canadian passport because he doesnt live in Canada to begin the process.
At this point I would rather see a guy like Jacob Lensky get a second chance with the CMNT than Jonathan DeGuzman, at least at this point in his career he would be on the up and up.

I agree with carvey. It wasn’t “packed with red”. Out of the supporters that were there, it was definitely a pro-Canada crowd, but how on earth didn’t we sell enough tickets to even open up the upper stands on the west side?

I agree with you Muckraker. He’s lived I think over half his life in the Netherlands, and learned how to play soccer there, so I understand where he’s coming from. Same thing with Teal, and like you said with Junior, if he plays for England, I get it, if he plays for Jamaica, that really sucks. I can appreciate that if you’ve lived in multiple countries, it’s not as black and white as which country you were born in (Canada has 7 foreign born players on it’s roster right now), but please, at the very least, choose a country that you’ve lived in!
One difference with Teal though is that he had committed to Canada in words and then reneged. That earns him his “your father is a legend, you’re a whore” chant.

When I bought my tickets for the USA friendly, thru Brampton East Soccer, I had to buy tickets for Honduras as well, it was a package. Still empty seats.
All carded competitve players should get a free ticket for these games, these are the kids we want to see at the games. Playing for the national team should be their goal.

de Guzman played 19 times for a team that got relegated but now seems to think he is in line to play for one of the strongest international teams on the planet.
I’m also not sure what “new generation’ of Dutch players he thinks there will be but only five of the current Euro 2012 squad are over thirty (and only two of those in the midfield or forward positions).
