I finally understood why before Holland-Portugal & Denmark-Germnay matches it was said that If Germany beats Denmark, then Holland has to beat Portugal by two goals to go through. This seemed to be a double standard at first considering Greece-Russia result and Greece going through. I posed a question to K.J ( PS: Did you ever see it?) that I don’t understand why if Holland beats Portugal 1-0 and Germany beats Denmark, then w Portugal should go through and not Holland?!! In any case the answer is all three teams would have had three points in that case and the direct encounter rule would not apply anymore. Therefore Holland had to beat Portugal by two goals to have a better goal difference than the latter. Of course all of this is useless now that Portugal beat Holland 2-1 but just trying to understand tournament’s rule. Cheers,..
