So there’s that. Nothing yet on who TFC will receive for JDG – Ives Galarcep indicates the club could be clearing salary while freeing a designated player spot. Yes, he mentioned Del Piero but keep your collective pants on. Red Nation’s Armen Bedakian mentions Canadian defender Kevin McKenna as a possible candidate for the DP slot created by the De Guzman trade.

We’ll provide an update as new information emerges. Toronto FC – never a dull moment.

  1. Sad to see JDG leave the club this way but clearly his time had come. I hope at the next Canadian home match was can give him a warm welcome back to BMO

  2. he never played the same position that he does with the national team. all reds fans watch him at the national level and go, why can’t he do that for us! I ask that question a lot. Canadian players in a Canadian city have way too much pressure (real or not) on them. Look at DeRo, the best skilled player Toronto has ever had and we gave him a hard time. No wonder people in any sport do not want to play here!

    • At his best with this club De Guzman was s a quality supporting cast player but not a DP level player. The team needs the DP spot more than a player of his skillset and salary cap hit. I doubt Dallas will be offering him a DP and that level of wage in a new deal, unless be plays as a dominant gamechanger for that club in the remainder of their season.

  3. I always see JDG part of TFC! he is candian, he should drop DP position and just be a normal MLS player. so that TFc can free up space for a new DP. itll be sad to see him traded

  4. The worst contract in MLS for the most useless position in soccer- defensive midfielder. It was that deal more than any other that hamstrung TFC for many years.

I wish him well but thank God that deal will be gone.

  5. Sorry. I won’t miss him. He doesn’t get a pass because of his passport. He did nothing for TFC for years for an ungodly amount of money. Clearing his contract out is a huge step forward for TFC regardless of who we may get in return. Golf clap for him upon his return to BMO.
