It’s funny to think that the Euro golden boot winner is a questionable option as lead striker, but Torres is definitely questionable. To be honest, if you can’t knock in goals with Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, and Xabi Alonso, can you do so with Hazard, Marin, Oscar, Lampard, etc?
Torres may have scored goals in Euro but they weren’t important goals to the flow of the game. Two against Ireland, who were terrible, one relatively meaningless goal against Italy when they were down to 10 men. Not exactly fearsome. I don’t think he has it, and I think it would be a mistake for Chelsea not to pick up another striker.
Dheepan: Excellent retro-analysis of the Euro regards Torres. And being a huge Chelsea fan, I could not agree more. The Blues for sure need to consider another striker.
