This video is making the rounds, showing what is either a firecracker, improvised explosive device, or a fucking grenade tossed on the pitch during an AFC Champions League match.
I strongly suspect the latter explanation isn’t the case. First, a YouTube video has been circulating with a video description that indicates the match was cancelled:
During a local club match in Isfahan,Iran some spectators threw a hand grenade on field,a player found it and thought it was some other object and threw it on sidelines just in time,if he had done this a few seconds later his hand would have been blasted. The game was called off and police have started investigating this case.
Except it wasn’t a local match, and it wasn’t cancelled. The Al Arabiya match report doesn’t even mention the incident. Neither does this Boxscore report.
This is an AFC Champions League match, not a local Podunk league game. A grenade thrown on the pitch would be a serious international incident, with FIFA sure to comment, but we haven’t heard anything more about it. So, tell your idiot friends in case they bring it up over cocktails: no, an atomic bomb did not blow up a stadium in “Arabia” and kill a million people live on television.
