1)It’s not really cheating, considering the ref is standing right there and could have asked Messi to move it back if the spot was off.

Well it was kinda telling that Xavi and the ref were having a laugh. Probably a “Ey amigo, I gotta move this ball so my little gremlin friend can bend it into the net” “No problemo chico” kinda laugh.
Power freekick:
Easier when the ball is further out to a certain extent, in order to get that dip to work in due time.
Curve/Finesse Freekick:
Easier closer to goal as the power is difficult to muster on finesse shots from further out (as well as aim; power shots are just hit and hope).
In conclusion based on Messi’s technique, he made it HARDER for him to beat the #1 goal keeper because he increased the distance while staying true to his finesse technique. LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you are missing the point. he moved the ball back WHILE the wall was being moved back. So he got an extra 2 yards, pretty much, to get it over the wall. isntead of getting 10, he got 12.
As far as making it harder to bend the ball, the 2 yards doesnt matter. But he made it alot easier to get it over the wall…which he barely did by less than 3-4 inches. what makes it worse is he clearly looks up to see that the ref isnt looking…thus making it cheating.
hes an awesome player, all time great…but dont make things up. the extra 2 yards of space make a huge difference.
