It was announced moments ago in a conference call with the Canadian Soccer Association. In the CSA’s words in a Tweet I can’t embed for some reason: “Canada Soccer President Victor Montagliani announces the resignation of #canMNT Head Coach Stephen Hart.”

So he wasn’t pushed, or was and let himself be pushed. I’ll have more to say on this tomorrow, but this may not be the godsend y’all think it will be.

  1. Alas, KJ’s man crush on Hart will end…

Why didn’t you park the bus Hart…*tears up*…why?

    • this was the 1st team to install faith and passion in Cdn mens soccer in a long time. 4 clean sheets and 2 games we conceeded goals. Most European or South American teams would be proud of this accomplishment. SH is a great coach unfortunately when you can’t score it makes it hard to win. I agree we need breed some young kids to be ringers. One goal scorer (male) will make things easier on our Defensive wall. The 0-0 draw in at BMO with Honduras was the let down. We dominated them and should have won 3-0.

  2. It’s not the God send, but it had to happen plain and simple.

The most important bit is coming up next…technical director, head coach.

Montopoli is officially on the clock

  3. Now it only makes sense to try and take the head coach job at TFC from Paul Mariner. He has connections to Canadian players and he will continue to stress more Canadian influence on TFC’s coaching staff as well as the roster.

IMO, if he gets offered any job with TFC he will eventually become head coach sooner rather than later.

    Get it done Anselmi….

  4. All you needed was a point. Just 1 point.

  5. After the embarrassment in Honduras the other day, this is not a shock to me. But at the same time, Jason DeVos, a former Canadian National team member, said the other day we do a poor job developing talent, even down to the grassroots level. This goes for both men and women. I know a few haters will start saying “Our women’s team is doing fine.” Fair enough, but they are also coasting on the shoulders of Christine Sinclair and we all know she can’t play forever. Plus she is about to sit out four games for what happened in London, which BTW she was right to say.

Anyway, I’m fine with the CSA finding a new coach, but if we ever want to be in another WC, besides one that we host, we need to start developing better talent all the way down. We may not be soccer-mad like Brazil, but maybe we can pick up a few hints from the soccer-mad countries and see what they do.

    • Sinclair didn’t get suspended for what she said in the interview, she was suspended for what the referee said Sinclair said post-game directly to the referee.

  6. Ya, let Hart coach TFC. Then get Winter and Marriner to coach the national team. That way, we never have to raise our expectations for either team again.

  7. It was the right thing to do. I wish more of our players showed the character SH showed today. Not the worst manager the CMNT has ever had.

Moving on, I’d imagine the CSA is in no real rush to find a replacement – heck, we’ve done without a technical director for a long while, who needs a manager either.

  8. I’ve known Harty for a looong time – been coached by him as a kid and shot the breeze with him as an adult. He’s a great guy and an excellent football mind.

But after that, it would have been pretty damn hard for him to stay on.

As far as I’m concerned, unless you find the smoking gun video where he was curled up in the fetal position around Montagliani’s feet crying and wailing, “Please, no! Please no!” I’m sticking with the position that this is consistent with his personal standards and he went out on his shield.

If he were to come back to Nova Scotia and immerse himself in the local football scene, we’d be lucky as hell.

  9. Hart seemed like a nice guy, but boy , when it mattered his team didn’t show up. Not just in Honduras, but in Panama, too. A telling moment came at the start of the second half, down by four, they give up another easy one. What speech did he give? Lay down and take it dry?

  10. Every disgraced organization needs a sacrificial lamb. Unfortunate, but this is what happens when a country develops a voracious soccer media and fan-base before developing the actual sport itself.

  11. one of the issue’s is that not all our top players are playing with Guys like Jonathon De Guzman and Hoillett not saying they make the difference but we need a coach who can also sell the team/program to these players to make sure we can put out the best team possible. Recruiting is part of the job as a Canadian coach and Hart failed to get a couple of our best players to play.

  12. I hear that guy guardiola is currently unemployed we should just take a shot and see what happens

  13. With the rumours of the personalities in play, perhaps its time to go grab Holger Osiek again.

  14. Paul James…?.. I think he is still our most successfull international coach.
