I’ll have to look at it again. In real time it looked like Evra was panicked and just hauled DiMaria down without regard to the ball to save a breakaway on goal.
Does intent matter, or not? If intent is not a factor, then Nani’s red card for dangerous play is justified. If intent IS a factor, and Nani should just get a yellow because he lacked intent to foul, then Evra’s cynical got-to-stop-a-breakaway arm tackle is a red card.
dude, watch Evra’s yellow again. It happened at the halfway line. There was at least 3 united players back. DId Evra intentionally impede Di Maria? yes, he did but that only warrants a yellow, which he got.
irmanator, thanks for this stupid argument. Lets not forget Evra was brought down by Verane after he passed him in the first leg and not even a foul was called
I am wrong. I watched the replay and Ferdinand was behind both of them. Without Evra’s foul, I doubt Cleverly would have caught DiMaria but assuming Vidic was also back (out of frame) it would have been at most a 4 on 2 or 5 on 3, not a breakaway.
United were the better team and they had chances in the first half like they had in the 1st leg to score goals. RVP should have scored in the 1st leg, I feel nowadays he just wants to smack the ball as hard as he can without the patience and the poise he showed before, maybe nerves starting to kick in or something, he takes his eye of the ball.
Welback was excellent but I along with many other United fans wish he would have finished one of the 2 chances he had in the 1st half. Once United were down 2-1 i saw rafeal, young and others just crossing the ball in the box, without actually looking up to see if anyone was making a run in the box or not. I think if you are going to do that, you need Hernandez in the box because he makes those dangerous runs in the box, near or far post, and drags defenders along with him, which would leave space for a RVP or Rooney later on. Not too mad about SAF leaving out Rooney on the bench, it worked! untill the red card ofcourse
Speaking abt the refs decision, I dont agree with it, mainly because I am a United fan and it spoilt the game for me. It was a good game but could have been a definate classic had it finished 11 v11. Would have got to watch a far more attacking game with end to end action and counter attack at its finest.
I wonder if Ronaldo would have gone up for a similar challenge against evra or rafeal for example and he would have produced a red card? NO definately NO. No matter it being a split decision or not, refs need to understand the magnitude of the game, teams involved and the different tangibles. Often refs make these decisions and become the taking point of the game when they really shouldnt. Isnt it that if you dont hear about the ref during the game, it means he has had a good game. Yes there is a need of authority but THINK before acting on it.
Mourinho was genius with his Modric substitutions. I listen to the Football weekly podcast, and they often joke about Modric not playing, which would mean he would start in the midweek CL clash, sarcastic ofcourse. But his inclusion proved vital and game them a different dimention. Reminded me of the time Mourinho would make all 3 substituions in the first half or so during his first season at Chelsea, when he would not be happy with the way the team was playing.
wtf are u talking about, Evra’s foul was barely a yellow.
Nani didn’t deserve the red at all. Uefadrid got carried this game. A team that brings players like Modric, Kaka and Benzema (150mill off the bench) off the bench should be ashamed to be scrapping a shit show performance 1-2 win.
Please Modric had one moment that’s all he was silent the rest of the game and how Madrid played did not deserve to see them go through let’s hope Bayern or Dortmund knocks them out because with United and seemingly Barca as well then Madrid will coast to the final real shame United is out now. They have nothing left to play for with the league wrapped up but that’s footy for you. One lapse in judgement from the ref changes everything. I also agree with everyone saying Jose had a good interview and don’t be surprised when Ronaldo goes back.
Really? Modric gave RM the spark they were lacking all game. You obviously know nothing if you think he didn’t do anything.
Brilliant goal and great passes to create chances.
I agree the red card was very harsh and that did change the game, but United seemed to have let up defensively after it. Lost their shape, concentration and form and left way too many holes which RM took advantage of.
It’s unfortunate because it could have been a classic between these 2 if it we’re 11v11.
I thought Evra should have been red-carded in the first half for hauling down DiMaria.
Under what reasoning is that any more than a yellow card?
Cleverley was behind evra so not a red card….i think it was cleverley
DiMaria would have had a breakaway and Evra made no attempt to play the ball. He tackled him with his arms.
Evra was not last man back however. The commentators made a note of it

Irmanator, I bet you haven’t been watching soccer for too long because if you think Evra’s foul on Di Maria deserves a red, you got problems.

My reaction after the nani red/Man utd loss…..
Don’t think that Mou knows that the Man United board will remember those remarks when SAF is gone.
Best Job Interview I’ve ever seen.
was about to say the same thing. He knows its almost time to head to Manchester.

noooooooooooooooooooooo YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUU obviously know nothing!!!!!!!!…..sorry
love the childhood juvenile back and forth arguments on this comment board.
Oi, Jose. It’s a post match interview, not a job interview.
That said, nice application.
