Manchester City’s faint title hopes are taking a beating at Goodison Park this morning. Well, as much as you beat something that’s already dead. Leon Osman’s early goal gave Everton the lead, but Steven Pienaar’s red card has thrown matters into flux. Anyways, for some levity, Agence France-Presse has a rather humorous story.
“A fan invaded the pitch at Everton in a bid to warm with Manchester City’s stars before the champions’ Premier League clash on Saturday. The man, dressed in City kit, ran on along the touchline as Roberto Mancini’s players warmed up at Goodison Park and attempted to join the likes of Carlos Tevez and David Silva on the field.”
To make this the best story in some time, the fan had written ’9 Bent’ on the back of his City kit. This fixture isn’t unaccustomed to unhinged spectators rushing the field. Last year a man handcuffed himself to a goalpost in protest regarding Ryanair’s recruitment policy after a family member was denied a job.
To wrap up. A giant Darren Bent fan wanted to warm up with his favourite team. Though he failed miserably, it’s the effort that counts. Also of note: Osman’s goal was a stunner.
