Paris Saint-Germain aren’t exactly pleased with Joseph Barton’s crass opinion on Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva. The Ligue 1 club released a terse statement that included this statement: “Thiago Silva et le Paris Saint-Germain se réservent le droit d’intenter toute action qu’ils jugeront nécessaire,” or Thiago Silva and PSG reserve the right to take any action they judge is necessary” in response.

The statement also asserts the remarks go beyond mere “verbal jousting” and are “serious attacks.” I’ve heard PSG’s owners aren’t afraid of sending a cease and desist letter now and again; lets hope Barton finally gets the message.

  1. Bob Dole thinks these might be the tweets that prompted PSG’s statement:

Have to take back what I said about Thiago Silva being over rated today. Been immense tonight. Still looks like a overweight ladyboy though!

2 questions for Thiago Silva. Firstly, Why are YOU talking about ME, in your press conference before PSG v Barca? Very strange.

    Secondly, Are you Pre-Op or Post-Op? #transsexual #thiagosaladyboy

Baffles me, which way he’s going. Is he a man changing to a woman or a woman changing to a man? Can’t work it out.

    • Richard Whittall thinks Bob Dole might be right.

      • Knowing how recent social media skirmishes played out, does Silva look for Joey Barton’s house on google maps then drive to his place of residence to settle the score?

Perhaps it will be settled in the ring with both compeititors dawning knee-high leather boots and lace.

    • Barton’s comments are disgusting and reprehensible and he’s a well known all-round douche-bag extraordinaire, but I doubt anything he’s said here is actionable, though I’m no expert in French law.

  2. This is literally the only way Barton can now remain somewhat relevant; making offensive statements about footballers 100 x better than him and carrying out antics at press conferences with accents. He realized long ago his skills on the pitch were not enough to keep anyone talking about him and has since made a career out of going on like this. Now he just has an active audience for it on twitter. It is seriously pathetic and he is a genuine piece of shit.

  3. Who cares? Some people are just noxious, horrible people.

  4. I know things are different where they’re from but PSG’s owners surely know that – in western Europe – people can say whatever they like, provided it isn’t libelous. Mr Barton’s alright in my book.

  5. Stop.

  6. Well people are being jailed/fined for racist tweeting; why not homophobic stuff? But yeah seriously Thiago should have just ignored him.
This is all Barton’s got. He’s too crass to get an on-air job after he retires.
