Real Madrid's players celebrate own goal by Atletico Madrid's Joao, during their Spanish King's Cup semi-final first leg soccer match at Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid

Any games on today?

Copa Lib! Yeah! Take your pick. I’ll go for Guarani vs Universidad Chile at 5:30 PM EST, because why not? There’s also some Eredivisie at 2:45 PM EST, Ajax vs Groningen.

What’s the big story?

Not really one to pick from, so why not watch this rather unfortunate Real Sociedad own-goal, which saw Barcelona secure their 2-0 win in the Copa del Rey semi?

Any other news?

  1. Unfortunate? I consider myself VERY fortunate to have lived in such a time that permits me to watch that own goal on an endless loop, for it is a thing of beauty.

  2. Better pass – Di Maria to Jese or Fabregas to Sanchez?

    • ho lee heck, both are just nutz. how they saw and threaded those lanes I will never understand…..

  3. Also, can somebody explain to me how on planet fucking earth Carroll and Ronaldo were suspended for a combined 6 games for the two dumbest red cards I’ve ever seen?

Marcotti argues against the use of sin bins or orange cards. Something to think about.

  5. Straight from Michael Cox’s article on Bale:

“We found a nice tactical system to get him goals,” Jose Mourinho has said, looking back at his period in Madrid. That meant, effectively, everyone else supplying Ronaldo, covering for him, and doing his running.”

Aaaaaaaaaaand there you have it. Mourinho set up and implemented a system where ronalda was supposed to be spoon fed at all times.

  6. On the own goal….clearing across the goal reminds me of Toure passing across the field that led to the goal
