Fuck! I want to get the hell out of here and get drunk, and then I see that Jordan Bastian has looked into how Adam Loewen’s transition to a hitter is going, and… well… when the Jays first made this move I was quick to downplay it as a long term thing and a giant long shot to ever be a meaningful move for the club. But now that absolutely fucking nothing major has gone on since then– I’m writing posts about Brian Burres and Curtis Thigpen, for fuck sakes– I’m not going to lie: these hand jobs are kind of giving me a raging fucking boner.

This winter in Phoenix, Loewen has spent time working with [Russell] Martin, as well as Twins first baseman Justin Morneau and Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton. From what he’s seen, Martin has no doubt that Loewen has the potential to be an outstanding performer on offense.

“He’s a Morneau,” Martin said. “He’s got that potential. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen.”

BONER!

“I told him Adam, ‘You’re a better hitter than I am,’” Martin said. “So I’m really not worried about it at all. It’s going to take him a little time to adjust and to get used to the velocity and stuff like that, but the guy is just a natural hitter. It’s not hard for him to hit.

“I was taking hacks with him in the cage in Arizona, and his first round was line drive after line drive after line drive. He’s talking to me like, ‘Hey, what should I do?’” And I’m like, ‘How about you tell me what to do? You look better than I do.’”

BONER!!

“I told Adam that if he does good, I’m really not going to be impressed,” Martin said. “I know what he can do. I’ve seen him. We played together on the national junior teams and stuff, and he’s a natural pure hitter.”

“I just feel comfortable,” Loewen said. “I feel comfortable with what I’m doing. It’s like I haven’t stopped at all. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like riding a bike. I always wanted to be a position player, I just never thought I’d be granted the opportunity and I feel blessed that I am now.”

BONER!!!
