Now it’s time for all the stuff I don’t figure on making full posts out of, with the spiffy ALTERNATE graphic by Matt English (aka @mattomic) that I just couldn’t keep letting stay dormant. It’s your Afternoon Snack… er… Afternoon Hangover… er… links!!!

The Getting Blanked GIFs of the Week are always good for what ails ya– especially when there’s an appearance from Sonny Chiba!!!

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports has a video response to the many questions he’s received this week about umpire accountability.

Michael Grange of Sportsnet talks about what the future holds for Adam Lind, while House of the Bluebird muses on the fact that if Lind can be sent down, and Cecil, and Snider, then no one is safe on this Blue Jays team.

Jeff Blair of the Globe and Mail weighs in on Lind as well.

Bob Elliott of the Toronto Sun doesn’t think he’s had his last conversation with Adam Lind here in Toronto, as he wonders what the Jays might do once Lawrie’s suspension is over, and Yan Gomes has served his purpose.

Eric Koreen of the National Post also looks at Lind’s troubles, while Ken Fidlin of the Sun reviews the Jays’ post-turmoil victory last night, and the continued heating up of Jose motherfucking Bautista. Nails!

At Getting Blanked, Parkes uses his URL Weaver post to talk about a Mets fan– a NYC cop, no less!– arrested for sneaking down into better seats than he paid for. Great precedent setting, Mets!

Speaking of the Mets, Bill Lankhof of the Toronto Sun fills us in on just who the fuck we’ll be seeing playing on the shitty-looking fake grass at Rogers Centre this weekend.

Gregor Chisholm of says in a notebook post that John Farrell intends on using Rajai Davis more often, as long as he continues to have a hot hand. Can’t complain about that, really.

Bluebird Banter passes along a plea from a reader for help to continue treatment for his 9-year-old cousin’s brain cancer, which I’m certainly not going to not pass along as well. Note: Apparently this guy was a fucking lying sack of shit.

Not Jays-related, but still good for a larf: Buster Olney of (Insider Olney) takes a look at A-Rod’s steep decline. HEYO!

Lastly, in case you missed it yesterday, during the middle segment of the Getting Blanked Show, Drew geeks out with Brandon Morrow, discussing his repe-twah with the Jays fireballer…

  1. As long as Davis doesn’t do stupid shit like bunting on a safety squeeze with the pitch around his ear, I’m all for him getting a little extra playing time.

  2. Yeah. I like Davis on the basepaths. He’s a dynamo! *squints and give thumbs up

  3. Not to crush your faith in humanity like most commenters but I’m pretty sure that BBB link is a scam

    • The link doesn’t work ( for me).
If you’re correct.that’s some sick fucking shit.
Cocksucker should be strung up by his balls.
      If it’s legit, nevermind.

  4. Bit off topic, but hopefully someone is interested:

I was just having a look at Fangraphs’ team leaderboard for the Jays and noticed that EE continues to have a really bad fielding rating. I know this shouldn’t shock anyone, but I was struggling to remember him making any shockingly bad plays in his limited time at 1st this year.

Looking into the rating in a bit more detail, the thing that is really confusing me is his -2.0 UZR, which consists of his -2.2 RngR and 0.1 ErrR ratings at 1st base only. I know that Fangraphs only updates UZR weekly, but it’s the -2.2 RngR that I’m focussing on here. I don’t know how a player who, according to Fangraphs, has made 9 successful plays out of 9 balls in his zone as well as one play out of his zone can end up with a negative RngR.

Hopefully someone can enlighten me about the mechanics of UZR that I’m missing.

    • Does FanGraphs take into account how many plays a player makes outside his zone?

In any case, UZR I feel is scewed for first basemen, as they usually have to let balls go and run to the bag (unless it acknowledges this).

      • Yeah, maybe it’s something to do with that. I think that UZR doesn’t use quite the same zone definitions as TZR, so that is definitely a possibility.

The severity of his defensive rating is so severe, in such a small time period, that my initial suspicion is that they’ve messed up a formula somewhere.

        • You don’t need numbers to know the Jays are better off without Lind right now. Sure, Edwin isn”t great defensively but he will improve and his offense outweighs his defence. In addition to whoever plays DH on any given day, the Jays are better off.
This is one of those instances where old-school analyisis works as good as metrics-common sense.

  5. Gomes looked pretty good last night, 2/3, just sayin…. Maybe he is a “piece” after all?

  6. Stoeten, I am, willing to take a 4 game suspension like Lawrie and then after that can you lift my ban?

  7. Couldn’t watch Ken past the point where he compared umps to players going 0 for 4 and not getting fined. If a player could change a pop-up into a double by conferring with the other players or by rewinding a videotape…. yeah you can see how comparable these things are.

So Ken I guess baseball is really a game between 3 teams at once then. That’s awesome.

Hey Bud and Ken, let me talk about this awesome thing they invented. It’s called a video camera. It’s the next Facebook! Get in on it now, trust me.

  8. Looks like MLB is feeling the heat about out of control umpires doing whatever the fuck they please. They suspended Bob Davidson for one game for misconduct.

    • Money quote:

“This is the type of behavior that makes umpires look like PETULANT, attention-hungry CHILDREN. It’s straight out of the Joe West School of Umpiring. Most importantly, it’s bad for the game.”

      Hmmm. Familiar.

  9. I think that should have earned more than a game, but congrats to MLB, first time i have heard of a umpire/ref of any major sport getting any public discipline for performance. Its usually done in private and only consitutes not getting playoff assignments.
