  1. by the way for what it’s worth, when they jays were red hot in 2009 with the 27-14 start they didnt finish above .500 as you and Drew stated, they finished 75-87. kazaam.

  2. Parkes is gay.

  3. Parkes thinks the season is over because he thinks they can’t go 62-52?

I mean, they very well may not but … insane to assume this team can’t play 10 games over .500 for their next 110 games.

  4. So according to Dustin “Troll” Parkes, the Jays season is over in May, and the team has no chance to make the playoffs, so let’s all stop watching now??

  5. http://blogs.thescore.com/djf/2008/09/10/the-drunk-jays-fans-guide-to-deluding-yourself-into-believing-your-team-can-still-make-the-playoffs/

“No matter what the cause, there will always be doubting Thomases. The important thing to remember is not to be swayed by the musings of a realist. Fuck reality. Live in the moment.

It’s fun to hope that your team will overcome insurmountable odds, and your willingness to delay disappointment is a key factor in maintaining that sense of pleasure. If an anonymous Brad Fullmer fan wants to tell you that you’re an idiot for believing in the improbable, tell him to go fuck himself while reading his fucking Baseball Prospectus projections.”

Parkes has certainly come a long way since writing this post back in 2008. But was it a change for the better?

    • BTW, the ending of that guide is gold considering what Parkes said in the podcast.

“Baseball is an amazing sport. For all of the statistical analysis that goes on and the resulting predictability that surfaces from the super brains, there is so much randomized randomness that playoff possibilities still exist for a team that was six games under .500 on June 21st and was 14.5 games back of the division lead at the beginning of the month.

Yes, it’s unlikely and perhaps delusional to believe and hope that this team can still catch the wild card, but fuck it.

These are our Toronto Blue Jays. The team that’s haunted us all summer: alienated us from friends, caused us late nights while on the West Coast, and given ammunition to the office jackass who found out you were a fan.

After years of mediocrity and late August/early September prick teases, if anyone deserves to disappoint the smug pricks who produce their statistical predictions, it’s our beloved team.!”

  6. As far as Bryce Harper vs. Brett Lawrie goes, I still fail to see how how saying they have similar personalities and potentials is an unfair statement to make. Both are incredibly fiery, intense individuals who carried character questions throughout their minor league careers (as a result of their supposed arrogance and entitlement). Both are also projected to be great hitters at the major league level, All-Stars, and among the best at their respective positions. Of course, only Harper is hitting right now (though we saw Lawrie mash the same way to start off his career before the pitchers adjusted), but Lawrie is playing absolutely incredible defense at his position and providing significant value in a way that few expected.

Really, I see two incredibly high ceiling players here that will likely be stars in this game for the next decade. What’s the problem?

    • Harper’s talent is once-in-a-generation kind of stuff, where Lawrie has the ceiling of a mere superstar.

  7. HOLY SHIT You guys are exaggerating how bad Drabek has been. Yes he’s had a couple horrible starts on the road, other than that he’s been great

    • 42 strikeouts, 37 walks (and this trend isn’t anything new, he had more BBs than Ks last season). If he doesn’t start throwing more strikes, there’s going to be a lot more of the horrible starts coming.

  8. colby love!

  9. Could you guys identify the songs you used throughout the podcast at the end or in the description or something?

  10. Brad Fullmer Fan, You’re doin the lor’ds work on this one…. er, the space daddy’s son’s work. Or whatever.
But seriously, I fucking defend a lot of the shit that gets posted and said on this blog against the misogynistic, racist, homophobic douchebags who troll the comments on a regular basis, and I think I said fuck off parkes about 30 times during that show. It’s the fucking drunk jays fans podcast, not the cynical bandwagon jumping brian sabean (yeah parkes, fucking sabean) ballwashing texas loving podcast. I mean you are (theoretically anyways) a fan of this fucking team, and can’t even keep your raging chipotle-mesquite hard-on (see what I did there) for the rangers and tim lincecum in your fucking pants for 45 minutes? I mean ELVIS FUCKING ANDRUS’ FUCKING CONTRACT SITUATION???? BRYCE HARPER FREE AGENCY? Fuck right off, leave it for the 4 vodcasts and 1 podcast you do a week that aren’t Jays related. You feed the fucking trolls enough as it is.
Quote of the podcast: “..what would I rather watch, the 7th,8th and 9th inning of a game I’m interested in, or the first two innings of the Jays game…”
Seriously. A fan makes that call easily every time. Jays game. Not even fucking hard.

    • You had me until the end. If I’ve invested 3 hours in an interesting game, the Jays can wait a bit.

  11. I love how Stoeten (indirectly) calls Parkes a fuckin idiot for throwing in the towel at this point. 10 games over for the rest of the way? I think that’s achievable.
