The brooms are out as the Jays take on the White Sox in the final tilt of this three game set from Chicago, and they turn to Henderson Alvarez to get it done, as he looks to reverse the little regression to the mean trend that’s plagued him in his last three starts. But it’s not going to be easy, as the Sox send Jake Peavy to the hill against him, and benefit from the return of Paul Konerko to the lineup.

Miss a bat Henderson, we know you can do it at least a little better than this. In 10 starts last year, the hard-throwing right-hander had 40 strikeouts over 63.2 innings– in 11 starts this year, he has 21 in 72. The fuck!?!

Scuttlebutt

Farrell worked Omar Vizquel and David Cooper into the lineup? HURRAY!!!! LUCKKYYYYYYY!!!!

According to the Jays’ official Twitter feed, McCoy’s assignment in left was a late development, as Rajai Davis was originally slated to play. Did he look like he might have tweaked something while running at some point near the end of last night’s game, or was that just me?

Maybe it was, as Shi Davidi tweets that Davis has a jammed middle finger on his left hand. Davidi also informs us that Sergio Santos is throwing bullpen sessions again, and getting close to facing live hitters, and that Travis Snider has, indeed, landed with Dunedin for the time being.

The Jays also announced that the final spot in the bullpen continues to be occupied by a revolving door. Chad Beck is up, while Robert Coell-who? goes back down to Las Vegas (Note: I like to call it Lost Wages).

Barry Davis tweets that “Farrell says all went well with Edwin today. Will take BP and possibly play 1b tomorrow in Atlanta.”

  1. 1/2 mandatory baserunners for Cordero.

  2. Oh for fucks sake JP.

  3. ♩ ♪Francisco Cordero♫ ♬ ♩ ♪ lean like a roast beef ♫ ♬

  4. Sox took a pretty big risk having that guy tag up. With 2 out doesn’t make a whole lot of difference whether he’s on second or third.

  5. Coco puff time

  6. 3-10 in one run games.

  7. fucking bullshit Farrell, no excuse not to bring in Perez for the left handed bat.

  8. ahhhh coco

  9. Cordero totally belonged there… Good choice…

  10. Tell me again about only putting Coco in in low leverage situations?

  11. I don’t know what the fuck Farrell was thinking

    • Probably that they play a national league team tomorrow. Didn’t want to waste the bullpen.

      Sensible, really

  12. Could it be that Farrell has a fear of success? He seems to avoid it all too often.

  13. Tabby just called Orlando Hudson “Lando Calrissian”

  14. Cordero still closing out games in the bottom of the 9th, just not at home.

  15. Why won’t AA just get Cordero off the roster so the tard wont be tempted to use him at the worst time

  16. No Grey on Grey magic tonight.
    Sad panda.

  17. another 1 run loss for the jays. this is why farrell is the worst manager in the league. 3-10 in 1 run games, fewest 1 run wins in the league. the guy has no idea how to manage a close game.

should’ve bunted with visquel, then brings in coco. coco should never pitch with a lead or tie, only losses

    • He tried to bunt with Visquel. Visquel was fail.

    • Not that I’m defending Farrell there… Cordero in that situation was a stupid, stupid move…

    • Coco was shit as usual (questionable call there, Skip), but when can we start talking about how dreadful Arencibia is at blocking the goddamn ball? I feel like we’re giving teams extra bases every night.

      • He’s making what was thought to be a tough call (calling up d’Arnaud) easier with every passing day.

    • bunts are asinine, and Farrell is not the worst manager in the league. Try Jim Tracy. Or Bruce Bochey. Or Charlie Manuel. Or Ned Yost. Etc. Etc. Etc. And Fuck off grouchy.

  18. Getting done in by the DFA’d O-dog is just icing on the cake.

  19. Curious to see how Escobar and Johnson will do in Atlanta.

  20. As much as I hate Cordero, it’s probably fair to point out that it never would have gotten to this point if the offense hadn’t stranded approximately 97 baserunners. As usual, the runs we did get were primarily caused by defensive shittiness, not proper execution. When you should have scored 10 and you score 3 (and 2 of the 3 were a gift from the other team), you deserve to lose.

  21. Farrell conceded the game…’nuff said, could have been a 14-inning marathon and one friggin tired bullpen for the next day. Strategic loss with the correct scape-goat.

    • It’s possible but he could have brought out Frasor again or even Janssen considering they used their closer in the 9th. This team would be top of the division with a shut down pen or at least one that was even average. Going to be the thing that needs to be fixed first imo, Sure starting depth is weak but while the goings good in general this pen is mucking things up. Problem is what do you do with Carlos, Coco and Frasor? Do you hope they have a 2nd half turnaround or do you hope that when Santos gets back you get to use Coco less with everyone pushing down a spot? Still looks to be 2 to 4 weeks before Santos is back again. Do you cut bait on Frasor and Coco and hope to get a bucket of balls back and go with the kids?

4.39 ERA as relievers – dead last in the AL and 28th out of 30th teams. That pretty much says it all.

  22. Yet again RISP and Farrell strike again. Never going to make the playoffs with this manager

  23. after odog was on third, should have brough in jansen to get the k, coco gives up way too many hits to even chance it. but farrell always has to go suicide with the veterans. can never take out a veteran, better to lose the game.

  24. why is it every former blue jays comes back to kill us. mastroianni, rios and odog have like 10 rbis against us

  25. I hate Mike Wilner. His arrogance and pretentiousness has hit all time highs. I can’t stand how he talks down to Jays fans as if we’re not even worthy to be watching the same games as him. What a fucking loser.

eg – “Everyone is going to say ‘Cordero sucks and we should trade him for Joey Votto’”. You had me at Cordero sucks, but the Votto comment was not necessary and is a shitty swipe at anyone who *knows* Cordero sucks.

    Fuck off Wilner

  26. wilner: “cordero has been pitching exceptionally well”

    fuck you wilner

  27. the jays suck and farrell should kill himself

  28. True Story: Amongst all MLB team, Jays are 5th in Runs Scored, 6th in Run Differential, 7th in wRC+, 9th in wOBA. They go one game where they have trouble scoring one more run than they got and people whine like crazy. By the sounds of things around here, you’d swear this was one of the worst teams in baseball.

    • It is! I’m done!

    • +1

    • with those peripheral stats, we should have a better record…

      • Very true. The jays can’t afford to lose this many close games when they had the white sox on the ropes.

    • + a lot.

We just won a series against a 1st place team with a 32-25 record, witha really good chance for a sweep. We’re 2 GB from 1st place in the division more then 1/3 into the season AND we’ve had the 3rd toughest schedule in baseball up to this point.

Guys….this is a good team. Really good, even. And it’s only going to get better.

  29. Absolute garbage! I’m boycotting the next series…I refuse to watch.

  30. Mike McCoy OPSed about .500 in Vegas. Fuck – I can OPS .500 in Vegas. Why is he here?

  31. I found the suicide squeeze a hateful call. I especially hated going for it on 0-1 after the pathetic failure on the first attempt.

  32. Really don’t understand putting in Cordero there. He was doing well in the set-up role, but clearly can’t handle the save/semi-save. Is there a reason Janssen wasn’t put in? I know the game was tied, but he’s definitely capable or more than one inning. Puzzling to say the least.

And I agree about the sentiments on here regarding Wilner. I don’t care how knowledgeable he is, he’s a fucking asshole to pretty much all the callers his smugness is sickening. It was funny though, I remember listening to Jays talk the other week, and the last caller deliberately mispronounced Lawrie because he knew Wilner would correct him (touching on this, perhaps Wilner should talk to Buck). Caller responds with “It’s L-A-W-R-I-E, Mike, whatever.” Classic.
