Ahhh, Interleague. Clusterfuck of a schedule-imbalancing dog and pony show; chance to get an up close glimpse of the biggest stars the other league has to offer. Every year, it’s the first thing I check out as soon as the schedule is released, and while I suppose a big part of that is because we know damn well who else the Jays will be playing all year… um… ahh… Bryce Harper!!!

And on Wednesday, Stephen Strasburg.

And… uh… Steve Lombardozzi, Roger Bernadina, and Danny Espinosa.

Interleague baseball!!!

Scuttlebutt

At Getting Blanked, the Common Man asks the hard questions about the Blue Jays that we probably sometimes aren’t quite ready to ask ourselves.

Keeping with that theme, Chris Cwik of RotoGraphs wonders if it’s time to worry about Brett Lawrie, and makes some pretty interesting points in the affirmative.

Interesting tweet from Wilner: “Farrell implies Lind wasn’t in shape when sent down, affected range and bat speed, but also said he did his core strengthening religiously.” Hmmm…

Dirk Hayhurst writes that spitballs and ball doctoring are alive and well in the modern game, with respect to the Jose Valverde nonsense from last night. Jack Moore of FanGraphs– and soon CBS Sports!– goes the other way, tweeting that “In a real shocker, nobody on @AroundTheHorn mentions that the ‘spitball’ was a 94 MPH four-seamer.”

And lastly, for your between-inning viewing pleasure, it’s today’s episode of Getting Blanked…

  1. Eric Thames twitter alert:
“If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea… does that mean that one enjoys it?”

  2. Anyone else think JPA hears footsteps?

  3. Good thing we didn’t get EJax this year and let one of Drabek/Hutchison/Alvarez get more minor league seasoning. Same shit could be said about Bedard.

    • Edwin was too costly.

His salary would have equaled the combined salaries of coco and oliver.

god forbid we didnt have those two on this team.

      • Yeah heaven forbid. I’ll hold judgment until we see what we may be able to package those two relievers for in a mid-season trade — but I won’t be holding my breath.

      • Edwin would have been the better purchase over Cordero and Frasor.

200 innings of starter > that 120 innings of shitty relief.

    • I don’t have a problem with the Jays not spending too big yet, and generally really like what AA has done…

But yeah … I think a guy like Edwin Jackson would have been an excellent signing as a mid rotation guy. Not too pricey, decent pitcher.

    • Because Bedard in the AL East has worked out so very well. And If AA could have signed Jackson to the terms the nats got him for, I’m sure he would have. He wanted to pitch in the NL, for a team that looked on its way to contention this year. The Jays are no sure bet in that department.

  4. Beck and Perez are balls out today, saving the rest of the bullpen and ten roster moves down the line. Well done!

    • You got that right, spawn of Ed Sprague Jr.. 9 pitches into the game with no outs. Kudos to both of them.

  5. Harper really needs to stop being so good.

  6. When Jason shits the bad … he shits it slow.

    • Am I the only one left on the interwebs who thinks that it’s not too much to expect that a pithy 9 word zinger be spelt correctly?

  7. Why are the Blue Jays’ bats so fucking terrible? Seriously.

We all know that if they didn’t put fucking Hernandez up on the mound yesterday, that we would have lost that game as well and endured a sweep.

  8. WTF is going on with the posts…time stamps are out of order! Have I been banned? Am I in heaven ? What’s going on?

    • Stoeten has returned to the Mothership.
What you see is an illusion. An experiment in mind control.Don’t panic.
When you wake up tommorrow you will forget you were even here and all about the anal probe.

  9. Sweet homer against Cordero!

  10. CoCo, Wilner will defend him

  11. I’ve been holding off, but tomorrow is the day I am going down to the Jays Shop and get me a #48 jersey with CORDERO’S GUNT on it.

  12. Rock bottom, here we come.

  13. Test

    • Test 123.
Alpha bravo you are cleared for landing.

      • Thank God Radar, running low on fuel here. Ever since Stoet deleted that guys post thread has been messed up.

        • Stoeten’s still doing his ” on the job training”.

          He misses Disqus.

Still can’t figure out why the main part of the Score uses disqus but the blogs use somethin else.

Gotta be a couple of wizzbang IT techies workin there.
          I can hear them now…
Duh,I dunno what happens if i press this key?
Yup, yup, yup.Now I broke it.

  14. Quiet game threat tonight.

    All I hear is crickets.

  15. What the fuck are the comments doing out of order?

Stoeten’s trying to fuck with my head again. I’ll teach the shit head , I’ll read backwards.

  16. Just turned on the game. Who is this joke announcer??

“You know, I always thought it would be easy to like Bryce Harper”

    Are you serious?

  17. Over/Under at 20 on number of posts declaring season officially over? lol

  18. Have to tip your hats to the National’s pitching coach. Seems to have elevated Jackson and Gio’s game to the next level.

    • Well Jackson’s been a surprise, but I really can’t take any “massive” improvements seriously from pitchers switching leagues. Bigger parks and shittier lineups. Much, much shittier lineups.

      • Never said massive but they went from being good pitchers to excellent ones so far, maybe it’s just sss right now, either way they’ve stepped it up for now. Also there’s plenty of pitchers that don’t do that when switching to the NL.

There’s a 5.9% difference in RPG so far this year between leagues, about the same as in 2011. 2010 saw only a 2.7% difference. 5.9% is worth 0.20 of ERA off a pitcher who had a 3.50 ERA previously.

  19. HEY STOETEN.

Clean up the mess you made.

  20. the nats manager, davy i dont have a johnson looks like an old fuckin woman. oh well at least hockey is going to be finished tonight and the devils are denied. i would have to end it all if lamorello won again. fuck off hockey in june

  21. On a little bit of a positive note, Alan Farina, made his long awaited (at least by me) return from injury in Dunedin today. He got hit around a little in his first inning back but if he can return to his prior form you might see him in the majors sooner rather than later. He had (hopefully still does) some pretty nasty stuff before his injury as his 2010 and 2011 numbers show.

We could see a really nice pen full of power arms come September with Farina, Stroman and hopefully a healthy Santos.

  22. Very cool, Yan.

  23. The ship is sinking.

  24. Season is not over. Far from it. Got to say though im convinced this team isnt any better than .500 and I dont see the upside. The lineup tonight from 6-9 was utter shit. Even Johnson at 5 is very questionable. Arencibia is a fucking garbage hitter whose obp is slightly higher than kelly johnsons avg. Despite the number of homeruns this is not a very good hitting team as evidenced by the lack of walks and doubles. This is the time of the season when the good teams start to separate themselves fro the shitty ones like the yankees are doing now. The jays just continue to just muddle in mediocrity unable to go on a big run to due to an overrated, flawed, and inconsistent offense and and young starting pitching. Not to mention a shaky bullpen. Not the recipe for a playoff team. Especially in this division. I badly want them to do well and for a toronto sports team in general. Unfortunately, I dont think rogers is committed to winning by spending on the major league roster.

    • There’s one post, 19 to go lol

Though I will be honest and admit this was a serious downer of a game especially after Sunday’s win.

They are saying Morrow injury substantial now.

      • Do you honestly think the roster as presently constructed with santos and even morrow is good enough to make the playoffs? I dont know about you but I see a bunch of players that have talent but significant flaws as well.

        • Not as presently constructed. Remember I’ve been saying .500 with upside all year but I had hoped AA would work his magic and increased the odds.

  25. Well it should be interesting to see if Morrow’s “substantial” injury accelerates AA’s search for pitching depth this season. My boner inducing day dream of a trade and sign for Greinke is looking better by the minute.

Poor Brett and Dustin, if it weren’t for one’s shitiness and the others cursed luck you might be getting some quality innings right about now. I guess the same applies to McGuire and Jenkins too.

Man just when you thought if this team could tread water for another week or two something good might really happen this occurs.

  26. Jays are the shit!!!!! Trust me, I know!!!!!!!!!!!! we have a lot of upside and we’re a team of the future! we also have a great farm so quit hating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. I love the Jays! I good shit
