The Baseball Gods are angry. Staff ace Aaron Laffey in his last start, in Boston.
Just keep reminding yourself that it’s Tom Millone outside of the Oakland Coliseum (home FIP: 2.51, away FIP: 5.54), and whatever you do, don’t look at the Jays’ lineup today. WHATEVER YOU DO.
Here, maybe watching Anthony Gose throw a baseball will help…

Scuttlebutt
Yunel Escobar talks to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle about his name being in trade rumours. “I like it here,” he says. “I don’t like getting traded. I had that happen before when I went from Atlanta to the Blue Jays. But you have no control over what happens.”
MLBTR passes along an announcement from the Brewers, telling us that catcher (and Canadian) George Kottaras has been designated for assignment. Could the Jays have interest, with JP Arencibia down? Sure, why not.
Lastly, since I pasted the wrong one in here yesterday, for your between-innings viewing pleasure, here’s yesterday’s edition of Getting Blanked…

Free Brian Jeroloman!
Do we bring in gose for defense?
Maybe if Rajai is facing a righty. Couldn’t hurt.
Cespedes runs down foul balls like Brett Lawrie, except the complete opposite.
In Communist Cuba foul ball runs down you!
Apparently he also runs down fair balls the same way.
Odds the bullpen blows this?
I forgot we were in the 8th inning, we can use our only 2 good relievers on rest. thank god( if he existed)
LOLmar.
okay, now Oliver and Janssen and cue the horns
I’m going to be sad when there are no more MLB players older than me…at least Oliver still has 8 years on me.
You learn to live with it.
I’ve already reached the stage where I can’t wear a jersey with an actual players name on it…would be weird wearing a 24 year kid’s name on my back.
always go throwback with the jersey’s. I have no problem sporting a barfield jersey at the stadium till the day i die.
Back in the playoffs!
TRADE EVERY PROSPECT IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS OUR YEAR.
Travis Snider now has 2HR and 7K in 10AB vs. LHP so far.
Im starting to think its possible Snider is either a platoon candidate, or a Pedro Alverez or Kelly Johnson type of player with a strange state line that. it sure looks like travis is going to average a K per game at least, but I also think hes capable of slugging in the high 400s and hitting 30 HR, maybe around an 780-840 OPS type of player.
Heh.
Way to not suck for the only game actual adults couldn’t make it to Blue Jays
Way to find something to bitch about…
Well I’m hitting three games this week; the last two and Friday’s. Is it too much to ask for some vague competence for the evening games?
Apparently it is.
Nice, Maple Boner.
Nice, EE.
Nice, Lunchbox.
Nice use of commas.
EE singles on a pop up to first baseman. What?
outfielder never saw the ball..it was technically shallow fly to right….firstbaseman was not expecting to have to get it
DAMN YOU GAMEDAY. MORE DETAILS. I’M AT THE FUCKING OFFICE.
Funny thing about gameday, the first thing to update is the player stats, then the score, then the actual play. I find myself always looking at the pitchers ERA to see if it goes up or down to tell me what happened.
LUNCHBOX!
Dwayne Murphy….shakes head…laments another opposite field hit
Did KJ tell Colby that he was borrowing his swagger sleeve?
This is fun. We should do this more often!
Cespedes learned how to field at the Rogers Centre by watching Thames tape
That was actually quit funny. That play was quite a Thamesian attempt..only Cespedes didnt slam into the wall and fall on his ass
That would have been in the parking lot in Fenway, and about 100′ from the wall in Oakland… He’s getting confused
Kelly is back!
Aren’t you way out on a limb!
Maybe sit a few plays out Champ…
Glad edwin got a hit there but MLB really needs to institute a more accurate method of scoring. the pitcher should not be charged earned runs and a hitter should not get credit due to someone losing the ball in the lights on a play that would have otherwise resulted in an out.
call it a “team error” runs are unearned..and the hitter should be charged an at bat without a hit.
Also it should be be an earned run if the pitcher is the one that makes the error (ie Snider’s power bunt).
Youaint Defenensivness, LF for the Oakland A’s
Fuck I hope Kelly steals third now. HOW DOES IT FUCKING FEEL OAKLAND!
i was surprised Reddick didnt get plunked for diving hard into the stands to try to catch that 10 meter foul ball when it was 10-0 lastnight.. that would have been sweet.
Cespedes is one hell of an Outfielder.
Payback is a . . . . ..
Old man Omar, the only Jays batter not to contribute today.
Wow when did we trade Thames to Oakland. Wait that’s Cespedes? The guy making all of the money? Ouch…
I think Cespedes’s(eseseseses) defensive wizardry would be best utilized in the DH spot.
how long until he is YoEnis CEspEdEs
This from Mike Newman’s Fangraphs chat:
Mike Newman:
So far I’ve spoken to 4-5 contacts about Blue Jays Aaron Sanchez. The comps have been anywhere from Matt Garza to Justin Verlander. Yes… that is pretty insane, but true nonetheless.
???
I heard Jim Callis from Baseball America say that Aaron Sanchez is the most raved about pitching prospect hes heard about from scouts, he says many opf them say hes the best pitching prospect theyve seen this year
Jays now tied with Rangers for most runs scored (Rangers with 1 game in hand though), but ahead of Sux who are second and have played 1 more game than the Jays.
this team is confounding, frustrating and fucking entertaining
Yep, the answer to the teams woes is to upgrade the offence.
imagine if the Offence had started the year clicking….
BS call, he never fouled that off…
Great effort today, win or lose, they showed grit today. Thats what I want.
Really? I want them to win.
Well, I guess you won’t be getting what you want for a few years to come. What do you plan on doing till then wise-guy?
… see, in most towns there’d be a viable alternative.
Here, the next-most-competent operation might be UofT football, and they’re coming off a 50-game losing streak a couple years ago.
Um… go Marlies?
Varsity football is a blast. U of T had a better season last year. Overall, the effort is always there, they just don’t have the horses, and U of T dosn’t put football ahead of academics (Penn State saw the folly of that big time).
Jays effort, and Romero’s specifically, sucked large yesterday. Despite what appologists for Rickey said, his delivery did not look like his best effort was being used.
Penn State has one of the higher graduation rates in Division 1, though. They can hardly be accused of being an SEC-like “class optional” program. They’re not Harvard, but most of the Big Ten schools do a reasonably good job of balancing athletics and academics.
(Of course, there’s no doubt that football came first, but it’s not as though they ignored academics like a lot of NCAA schools do.)
10-4, baby. Over and out!
Looking for tickets for our home one game playoff….
quote of the day courtesy mlbtraderumors.com:
“the angels are telling teams they’d rather trade Vernon Wells than keep him when he returns from the disabled list. They’re looking for a trade partner and saying they don’t want to eat all of his salary, Stark reports. It’ll be challenging to find a taker for Wells’ salary; he earns $21MM per season through 2014″
giggles
The Jays could make this happen. Well, Trout and Trumbo for Jesse Chavez. Otherwise, good luck Anaheim.
On a related note: I’d rather bang hot chicks than fatties and would like my swimming pool to be filled with money nightly.
DJF/GettingBlanked fancies itself a “literary” crew (smarter than you) – when will someone take a crack at re-working Casey at the Bat for Janssen (ie. Casey Missing Bats)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casey_at_the_Bat
The Jays scored 10 runs today with no Adam Lind in the lineup and the last two games Lind was in the lineup…hmmmm coincidence?
What a travesty for Farrel to take Laffey out in the fifth with two outs. Granted he gave up a double and a right-hand hitter was coming up. BUT the hitter was Brandon Hicks and he had dispatched both hitters before for his 2 outs with an impressive effort. Thanks Farrel you deprived him of the win. It will be nice and proper when Farrel is gone.
Dumbest comment in the thread! Congratulations! (You even beat the unfunny fake Paul Beeston)
Now that is funny.
