Not actually mentioned in the post. But what am I gonna do, find a picture of Matt Smoral?

Over the weekend at Minor League Ball, John Sickels played a little Prospectapalooza, answering as many reader-submitted prospect questions as possible, in not just one thread, but a second one as well.

A good number of the questions were Jays-related, and… um… here they are.

How much progress (if any) has Noah Syndergaard made with his secondaries this season?
by Super Bass Hallways on Sep 15, 2012 1:10 PM EDT

I didn’t hear anything negative about him at all. And I heard that his curve and change are coming along nicely. Not spectacular yet but substantial progress. This seems backed up with the numbers.

Adeiny Hechavarria We know the defense is very good. My question is will he put up at least league-average offensive numbers for a SS?
by lftyg33 on Sep 15, 2012 1:48 PM EDT

Signs point to no.

Nicolino == (LHP)Hutchison. Would that be a lazy comparison on my behalf? They just seem to have very similar profiles. Minus the TJ I would be very happy with that path for Nicolino.
by IamDeadHoratio on Sep 15, 2012 1:51 PM EDT

That’s not bad but as a lefty Nico has less of a “stuff premium” to deal with.

Two quick questions on Jays pitchers not named Sanchez, Syndergaard or Nicolino. Looking at some of the other Jays pitchers in the system, is Sean Nolin a legit prospect after his great year and is it too early to consider Roberto Osuna as a potential Top 100 prospect?
by allcanadian34 on Sep 15, 2012 1:53 PM EDT

Yes, Nolin is a legit prospect. Osuna… I can see him in the top 100, yes.

Matt Smoral: What do you see him developing as? (if injuries dont plague him)
by Michael C Grantz on Sep 15, 2012 2:00 PM EDT

He has the potential to be a top of the rotation guy. I think he is most likely a mid rotation guy who occasionally has a 13-14 K game in him. Very good starter if it works out.
by Matt Garrioch on Sep 15, 2012 3:44 PM EDT

Agree with matt

What do you think went wrong with Travis Snider? And was there something there that we missed (ignore this part if this breaks the two question rule)?
by CaptainCanuck on Sep 15, 2012 2:24 PM EDT

From a sabermetric point of view, his strikeout rate was always high enough to be concerning. The theory was that, given his age, he could be able to overcome any contact issues and that his power would make him productive even if his batting average was problematic. That didn’t happen… exactly WHY, I don’t know. I’d have to be a lot closer to the Blue Jays situation to anwer that with anything but a guess.

I think he was rushed to some extent but he’s had plenty of time to get over any negative impact from thats, so I don’t think that’s the answer either.

All that said, he’s still young at 24 and he’s had periods of above-average offensive production. It is still entirely plausable that he winds up having a fine career.

Your thoughts on Jake Marisnick’s season?
by noelman31 on Sep 15, 2012 2:26 PM EDT

Still has plenty of tools, power/speed, etc. He was doing decently in the Florida State League but given the holes in his game I’m not surprised he struggled in AA. Still very young at age 21, so too early to be concerned but if I were the Jays I’d be cautious about promoting him too aggressively in 2013.

Who is the best prospect the Astros got in trade this year? Comer, Wojo, Perez, Grossman, Dominguez, Musgrove, Cain…. Any one you think is a breakout guy?
by Shamus on Sep 15, 2012 3:20 PM EDT

Oh i dunno. They didn’t get any sure-fire guys. I’d have to look at everyone individually to say for sure. Wojo could really sneak up on people in 13.

It’s hard to read much into Daniel Norris’ numbers this year. What are the scouts saying about him?
by 4dizzle on Sep 15, 2012 3:35 PM EDT

What I heard was a sense of vague disappointment.. Getting something more detailed will be necessary in the coming weeks as I start working on the 2013 book.

Joe Musgrove: Have you heard anything about Musgrove’s fastball velocity lately, in terms of him reaching the low to mid 90s with it again? How much of a concern is his shoulder injury?
by Stupendous Man on Sep 15, 2012 3:53 PM EDT

I didn’t hear anything post trade. I think it is a moderate concern.
