It’s Officially Buffalo

Parkes has already passed it along at Getting Blanked, and there isn’t really a whole lot left to say about it, save for the obligatory ham-fisted joke about the rarity of so many people wanting to trek to Western New York, or not moving the Jays’ Triple-A club from it’s current home in Toronto, but just to be officially official, um… it’s official. Buffalo’s WKBW– which I can only presume is still run by Irv Weinstein– reports that the Jays are the new parent club of the Buffalo Bisons… um… aka “the Herd”.

  1. The 51s also changed their Facebook banner to welcome the Mets.

  2. I assume their mascot is Raul Julia’s portrayal of M. Bison from the Street Fighter movie, complete with voice clips?

  3. As a Blue Jays fan from former farm club Syracuse, I say congratulations to Buffalo, the Bisons, and the good people of Southern Ontario! You got a good team there Buffalo and no doubt will work well with Toronto.

  4. Not that it matters a lick, but I think the Buffalo Blue Bisons would be a nice touch.

  5. Good, can we stop wasting so much time on stupid shit now? The magnifying glass on this team is really taking all the fun out of being a fan.

    • I’m with you brother.

    • It’s called Drunk Jays Fans. Um….what did you expect? And if a far superior league and environment to develop and judge players, combined with the opportunity to make a road trip to see the Triple-A team is stupid shit, then, um, fuck off.

      • I think he was talking about eye black dude

      • Whoosh dude, he was referring to YEyegate.

      • No argument that its a good thing, but the amount of blog space and energy spent on non-baseball stuff like where the club sends its minor league signing/AAAA roster filler and what was written on a guys eye black where nobody but his teammates could see it save for one guy with a zoom lens is mind-boggling.

Its getting to be like Boston north here, lets stick to the baseball stuff, less on non-important shit, players are going to start hating playing here.

  6. DRUNK JAYS FANS DRUNK ROAD TRIP. I’m bringing 7 hooligans

    • Shotgun

      • I have a friend, who when someone yells “shotgun!” he just replies back with “Rosa Parks!” and then sits in the front seat and refuses to move.

My friend is a bit of a dick.

        • Funniest comment I have seen in a long time! Thanks for the chuckle IMW.

        • That’s an inappropriate joke which leads me to assume that you are a racist, a bigot and an idiot all rolled into one – a rabigiot.

I presume you will apologize profusely, but also expect that you will be suspended from your job. How dare you use language that may possibly offend someone somewhere.

      • Shotgun for the back seat…

  7. for some reason, that photo looks like its a photo of a miniature set.

  8. Tremendous news for the club. Lots of good, young players should be making their way to Buffalo the next few years. I look forward to making the drive to see the Bisons….the park looks great.

  9. Alvarez almost has to start the season at buffalo right?

  10. So… we’re all pissing our pants with excitement about making the road trip down to Buffalo to watch the farm team… when the major league team is in the heart of downtown Toronto and we get 15,000 attendance

    • It’s like a nice cheese to accompany a fine wine man… or maybe more like a side of wings to go along with a PBR, but at least they’re buffalo wings!

    • The AAA team will be far more fun to watch and far more likely to actually win some games. It will also be nice to be able to buy a reasonably-priced ticket that doesn’t involve sitting 500 feet above home plate.

      • @GC You can get great Jays seats for like $40, I wouldn’t call that beyond reasonable price at all… The beer prices on the other hand..

    • Well, there are maybe 1,000+ fans who are hardcore enough to make the trip more than once per season. And it’s those kinds of fans posting on DJF. We aren’t exactly representative of the full fan base in these comments. :)

  11. Prior to yesterday’s deal, Chad Beck is quoted extensively about the positives for Buffalo as the Triple A affiliate – (he was there for the Triple A All Star game in July)

  12. The great ppl of Buffalo just adopted the best team in AAA… congrats :)

  16. Why not call ‘em the Buffalo Buffalos, that’s what I want to know. Or change the city to ‘Bison’.

  17. Now the major league team will want a nice baseball stadium too. BTW isn’t that yunel at SS in the picture?

  18. LoL! I just saw Drew on TV.

  19. Fun fact: Coca Cola field is actually older than the SkyDome

  20. Good. Now when we want to know how a prospect did we don’t have to wait til the morning updates because of the time diff. Plus we can read the Buffalo NEWS

  21. So, was this the best trade the Blue Jays made in 2012?

  22. Fuck. Yes.

  23. + Billions and Billions

  24. Great, a real park to watch baseball.

  25. Here’s the stadium up close, with a bunch of idiots in it:

  26. And with this first southern colony of the GTA now established across the Niagara, the conquest of los Estados Unidos begins.

  27. maybe the Jays will bring a series to Buffalo, you know mid week non yankees or red sox. Bills in To reverse. Get on it AA

  30. Also, Fred Lewis was the Buffalo MVP this past season. It’s like a crappy-hitting omen….

  31. Yeah, bring them to Toronto, Leafs farm team is here… ups would be easier, scouting easier……..I say yes to the triple A team playing out of Toronto…..we’d get a new park out of it, too!

  32. Huzzah sir for the Irv Weinstein shout-out. I still remember the “Santa isn’t real!?!?!?!?!” moment I had when I saw Commander Tom doing the weather wearing “regular clothes’!!!!

    Thanks for the flashback!!

  33. Great news. Poor bastards in Buffalo are geting out their Atlas’s to find out where Toronto is.
