Cleveland Indians v Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays send R.A. Dickey to the mound for today’s rubber match against Jon Lester the Boston Red Sox. The Blue Jays lineup was a little late get up again today due to the status of Jose Bautista, but once again, the Jays will have to do without their right fielder, for one more game anyways.

Good news, he’s available to pinch hit.

More on Bautista after he talked with reporters after BP.

Shi Davidi tweets that Brett Lawrie hit off a tee and took soft toss, as well as taking grounders, but Gibbons talked yesterday about how he’s still a few weeks away from returning. Brendan Kennedy adds that the team has no timeline on rehab games.

Davidi also writes about what Rasmus can be and why he and Lind matter to the team so much.

The Blue Jays official twitter account tells us the home run Colby Rasmus hit Saturday traveled a distance of 468 ft.

  1. izturis is a rare combination of no power and no speed

  2. wewooo

  3. SHIT DAVIDI learn how to fucking talk. everything about this ballgame is fucking brutal.

  4. looks like he just lobs it over the middle of the plate

  5. ACE!!!!!

  6. I don’t care what people say. Dickey sucks And def doesn’t have it. What a bust

  7. Hopefully this will clear some of the hockey fans outta here.

    Silver linings, people.

  8. People were booing Dickey? What a load of crap.

  9. I wish Mike McCoy was with the big club right now so he could pitch a scoreless frame.

  10. Walks

    He’s Romero

  11. turned the game on in the 3rd inning, and instantly turned it off…

  13. Thank God the Loose Moose has 50 + beers and GOOD tequila. Makes the 500′s more bearable at this point.

  14. More aggressive baserunning would be nice.

  15. Normally I dont take much from these types of early season shitty starts..just write it off to small samples and what not.

However I am of the opinion that it is somewhat more important for the jays to get off to a good start this year to take advantage of all the hype and possible bandwagoners that would jump on board with such a start .

i fear a shitty start (like 8-15 or such) would kill any of that.

    • In terms of a business perspective a slow april would affect ticket sales for the next homestand. Let’s see what the standings are on April 30th.

Jays playing catch up in May will be interesting. No cakewalk run to the AL East this year.

  16. I guess it wasn’t the shitty pitch framing.

  17. I’ll say it again.

Why the fuck isn’t Bautista in the lineup?

    • “It makes no sense to go out there and re-aggravate it today and go into the day off when I could let it rest for two more days and just be pain-free,” he said Sunday morning. “I mean, it hurts still. It’s not like I’m just babying it.” From Jose.

Of course its the Jays, so these things are usually “Maybe Saturday” “Maybe Sunday” “Maybe Tuesday” “Maybe Wednesday” “Maybe Thursday” “Ok its still sore maybe next week, just to be safe”

      • That’s loser talk. These games count.

AA and Boomhauer might have thought so but I doubt Bautista did.

    • Again, he’s slightly injured. More rest will allow for it NOT to become a nagging injury for the rest of the season. Tomorrow is an off day.His presence in this game would’ve have made a huge difference anyway.
If he misses todays game and is 100%, I’ll take that over playing today and being 90% for the next 3 weeks.

  18. Wow, the comments here are not looking so good. I think the un-official rule is no panic until the end of May isn’t it? It would seem people are ready to blow this thing up already haha

    • It’s not panic. Its jus having a bit more information now that real games have actually taken place.

      Here are some observations:

Bonfacio is not very good at defense and he has a terrible right handed approach
      Josh Johnson’s fastball lacks movement.
Brett Lawrie might just be one of those Brian Robers always injured dudes.

      • And this is after 5 and a half games? And one JJ start?
Guess Verlander is a piece of shit too. He gave up 3 runs in the first to the shitty Yankees.
Wait for 40 games before you reach any conclusions.

    • If this year does turn out to be a disaster, will Rogers ask A to begin dismantling the team & rebuild with prospects?

Given that Rogers tried to sell the fanbase on prospects & rebuilding since 2009, would they quickly abandon this new top ten payroll team?

      I doubt it.

I think AA gets 2013 & 2014 with the current roster.

  19. Another sparkling example of DeFENSE

  20. Don`t blame Dickey for this loss, even if he gave up only one run we would still lose 1-0

  21. I’d rather watch Milos Raonic.

  22. Alright

Turning off the game, having a cigaratte, and moving on with my day.

    Until next time.

  23. Gregg Zaun on slugging %:

Just think of it as if you slug .500 that means you are averaging a double everytime you get a hit….

  24. AHAHAHA this is funny

  25. Too late to recall Jeffress? Man o man…

  26. I was just thinking of how stupid it was that they’d consider “What is Slugging %” an Ask the Experts question…then our so-called expert goes and botches the definition and explains it completely wrong.

  27. looks like Farrel utilizing the man in white better than Gibby

  28. I must be one sick sonofabitch for continuing to watch this game.

  29. Man, f@@k the Red Sox and everything about them.

  30. Mark DeRosa…sit the fuck down

  31. I hate mo-Lester.

    • Didn’t Lackey’s arm fall off in the 5th?

      • I didn’t like the 2 double steal attempts when Boston was up 8 nothing.
Farrel’s way of trying to stick it to us I think.

        We should plunk the hobbitt.

        • We’ll get even in September when those fucks are back at .500 ball and we’re wrapping up the division. Just looked at the games I have left in my flexpack. 4 Games in September. Can’t wait!

  32. I don’t think i’ve seen one good AB from Bunny Fiasco so far this year…

  33. Bush….

  34. did someone just streak?

  35. Holy sweet fuckin’ fuck.
    Talk about your shitshows.
I hope that was AA streaking on the field a minute ago- gotta give the fans sumthin’.
Bring on that road trip, crack the roof and let the stink out,

  36. Dave Bush:

“I’m excited. It’s been a year and a half, two years since I’ve been in the big leagues, so I wasn’t sure if I’d get a chance to come back.”

    Enjoy the cup of coffee.

  37. this is retarded

  38. Holy crap David Bush is bad, 4 HRs already given up by him

  39. This a laugher, everyone is thinking of dinner and ho’s

  40. The end is nye.

  41. I am glad its bush and not one of our good relievers getting lit up

  42. Where’s the mercy rule.
    We give up already!

  43. I feel bad for Bush. 9-0 mop up man.

Even Reyes looked impatient and disinterested. Totally thankless job.

  44. It was tough to watch

  45. Wow, what a great acquisition Dickey was. He’s really helping the team win!

  46. Zaun wont give up this no more windows in the outfield = more homeruns…can someone explain this to me?

    • Zaun is drunk

    • Apparently the gravitational pull of the hundreds of fans standing on the open porch is having an effect on the ball. It’s science.

    • It’s a theory but there maybe something to it..
Do you want the short or long answer?

      • your drunk

        • RADAR is eloquent when he’s been drankin.

          Encourage him.

        • I may be drunk but I know the difference between you’re and your.
Again it’s a theory, don’t shoot the messenger.
Didn’t say I agree or disagree.

          • And for those too young to remember.
            Google Metrodome and air conditioning.
Beeston has already said he has had the dome open or closed based upon a players request.
I know that has nothing to do with Windows restaurant.

        • He’s not MY drunk.

Maybe you meant “you are drunk”

Punctuation matters when you accuse people of being feeble.

          • You`re your you are me my then than, either way windowless windows oscar mayer weiner

            • Adderall or Ritalin?

            • Dabble Babble at it’s best.

            • Dabble.
Don’t think wind or breezes, think air pressure.
It may be bunk but let’s wait and see.
              We can discuss it later.
              Gotta go.

              • Air pressure?? For fuck sakes, who knows if it makes any difference to dingers but windows or no windows are not going to affect the air pressure. What can affect homers is wind: centre field is on the city side, the gates and doors and tunnels are open through out the game if the wind is predominantly blowing off the lake and now through out to centre field instead of swirling off of Windows restaurant then that could make a difference. Do I think so? No. But let’s at least be clear on what theory we’re debunking.

Also, no windows and Dave Bush is pitching = home runs, so it’s probably the windows right??

  47. cue the comeback

  48. Momma said there’d be days like this, days like this my momma said.

  49. Sooooooooooooooooo bad blue jays!

  50. That said, shitty games like this are the way it goes.

  51. Man wtf is edwin doing, that was in the dirt! DURT”!

  52. fuckin rogers!

  53. I love hearing Tabler make all sorts of excuses for the world series champions…..

much better than hearing him criticize everything every other team does!! bahhaha

  54. 13 nothing, edwin strikes out to end the inning and the first commercial aired is that stupid stadium love/ edwin bobblehead day/ #love this team

  55. At least Cecil is looking strong :)

    • Agreed—Cecil looks pretty good today (and so far this year).

    • Not surprising the sox are a little slow on Cecil …..their arms must be tired from taking everyone to the warning track or further today.

    • He’s also the cutest. So he has that to feel good about.

      • Don’t go all girly on us, bean.

        • I believe it’s in my contract that I get to girl-out once per series – more if the Jays are playing Minnesota or Texas. Also, I haven’t gotten girlie all season yet. And as many will state here, the season is practically over…right?!?

But yes – Tabby is on my side – talking about how SCHRTRONG Cecil is. Me + Tabby can girl it up together.

  57. Alright guys, we just need 14 runs this inning and we win!

  59. who are these idiots running onto the field?

  60. The WPA chart for this game is going to be very, very sad.

  62. It speaks volumes to the shittiness of the Jays’ at-bats that this game is already over when the other games that started at 1 PM are still going and the Red Sox scored 13 runs…

    • This was a bad day at the office. Off day, then the road.

Move on. All teams have days like this. Leaving the bar and drinking elsewhere will help.

      • Oh I’m not worried about it at all, it’s a long season and just about every team gets blown out a few times.

    • Toronto games always finish early. I feel like it’s been that way for years. Also, years of being not so good. Is there a co-relation?

      • No, and you should feel bad for asking that

      • Do you mean correlation?

      • There clearly is since you’re making the statement in the first place. What you are really asking is if there is a causal relationship and the answer is again probably: Jays hitters haven’t worked the count well for years which translates into both losses and quick games even when they win.

  63. I know the pitching was awful but the approach at the plate might have been worse this game. Thats partially due to the lack of quality ML hitters in the lineup (esp the bottom half) but I thought mottola was supposed to preach a more patient approach and the the not the ol’ murph hack away strategy. Well, its early bit I was not impressed at all today and havent really been these 6 games. The red sox know how to work counts and it seems the jays never do. That approach leads to way more consistent success on offense.

  64. whats with all the afternoon games this week? fuck sakes, cant watch another game until Friday?
    Maybe that’s a good thing?.

    • I’ve been trying to decide between saying that everyone is unemployed in Detroit so they can go to weekday games or saying that it’s too dangerous to go out @ night in Detroit. Both seemed not funny enough to be said in poor taste. But it’s super weird scheduling.

    • Too chilly for night games in Detroit right now.

    • Just realised I can log into my rogers account at work and watch the games online. im a bit slow with technology.
Looks like an unproductive week ahead. Im talking about for me, not the jays. No questions after 1pm, and lunch is at noon.

      • Looks like I will have a late lunch beginning at 1 pm in order to find a restaurant that has TV….

  65. Fuck, Wilner is an asswipe.

    • Today’s Jays talk is a classic. Wilner is in full apology mode . Wilner is upset that fans are booing the Jays.

Hmmm. after years of blaming fans for not showing up as an excuse for Rogers not to spend any payroll, now its the fans fault when they do show up because they BOO poor performances.

Dickey was horrible today. Roof closed & his favourite catcher , Blanco .

      What’s the excuse?

The offense was dead. Can’t blame Lind or Rasmus.

Very frustrating to see. Apparently Heyman from Sports Illustrated is mocking the Jays as the Miami Marlins of the North.

      Not good at all.

    • Are you one of the muppets that dialled into the show?

Wilner’s major fault is that he doesn’t hang up on these people more often (and that he engages them on Twitter.)

  66. At least the Rays lost 13-0 too, and they had fewer hits!

  67. Fuck off heyman

  68. I just got home from a Toronto Rock game. So many sad Jays fans wandering around. I did not understand why until I was informed. Jesus…

  69. Everyone needs to relax, it’s only 6 games in. This team is getting exactly what they need: an off day on the road to relax and move on from a pretty awful opening home stand.

I personally would like to see some changes to the lineup: bat Rajai Davis 2nd as a DH and move Melky down in the lineup to take some pressure off. Adam Lind can ride the bench for the rest of his Blue Jays’ career as far as I’m concerned. Clearly the preparation he puts in is sorely lacking. At this point, I’m content with the Jays’ power without Lind. With Davis, you have speed at both the 1-2 positions that would be very nice for Bautista batting third.

  70. Dickey stunk today but from what Wilner said on the broadcast, Dickey’s second or third start of the season last year was a complete disaster, so apparently he is on track according to Wilner. I think I’d rather see McCoy at third than anymore of DeRosa untill Lawrie comes back, didn’t AA say he would be back for this weekend when he first went on the DL? Now no one seems to know? it would be nice if they were more honest when it comes to injuries.

    • +1, with Mccoy, but if you bring Mccoy back you have to reduce the bullpen by one. They won’t DFA Mark Derosa.

I think Izturis is supposed to better at 2B than Bonifacio defensively.

  71. OK, I found this funny, but what does Leave Britney Alone with me wondering what happened to Dickey? The lack of spinning knuckleball seems to be a reasonable explanation. The secondary pitches weren’t working either.
