World Series Game 4: Chicago White Sox v Houston Astros

This actually happened.

The Jays take on the White Sox tonight, on Jackie Robinson day, and normally I’d try to say something poignant about that, but my brain, like most of yours, I suspect– or at least those of you who live on Twitter– just isn’t ready to process all that needs to be processed in order to put together something coherent. Fortunately for all of us, Drew absolutely nailed all of that earlier today, before what happened in Boston had occurred.

Read Drew’s excellent piece on Jackie Robinson at Getting Blanked. And if you’re searching for something to cling to regarding today’s events, you could do a lot worse than heeding the words of comedian Patton Oswalt’s Facebook post on it. No, really.

Oh yeah, and Mark Buehrle takes on the team he won the 2005 with for the first time. So… yeah.

Contradicting previous reports,

This lineup is just slightly fugly, so let’s hope the Knobler’s earlier report turns out right, though… I wouldn’t hold my breath.

On last year’s Jackie Robinson Day, Craig Robinson put together the definitive infographic on his career, which is worth revisiting at Getting Blanked.

Lastly, for your between-inning listening pleasure, here’s today’s edition of the Getting Blanked Podcast.

  1. Likely the end of the road for Sergio. Usually “triceps strain” = “blown shoulder.” Looks like we’ve got another McGowan on our hands.

    • I was going to say ‘bite your tongue,’ but in retrospect let me change that to ‘bite your fucking head off.’
      I feel strangely good.

      • You’re a sick puppy SP.

        • It’s just possible that we’re kindred spirits, RADAR.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
          It’s a scientifically proven fact.

          • We may be kin.
Ya ever been to West Virgina?
Was there once for baseball tournament.
Thirty miles along the crookest road I’d ever seen, to get to the park which was cut out of the side of a mountain. Parking lot was two hundred feet above the diamond. Looked for the rope ladder to get to the seats.
            Oh you said kindred spirits,

            • Can I lend you an ‘i’ or two, my friend?

While you were in the Mountain State, did you hook up with a little number with a pronounced moustache and a somewhat wandering left eye?
Mom always spoke highly of you (albeit with a lisp.)

              • One of the jokes told to me by a native West Virginian.

Q.What the number one pick up line, at a bar, in West Virgina?

                A. NIce tooth.

Was that the one who’s specialty was “squirrel flambe”?

                • Substitute alligator pepper for a bit of catnip and a clump of finger root and it works equally well with possum or vole.

                  • You must be one of those gorments, eatin fancy vittles like that.Although talkin about it makes my mouth water for a good dandelion salad made with fiddleheads and nice vinegrette.
And yes, I’ve actually eaten that.

                    • I hear you man, but have you noticed that ever since they outlawed DDT, salads such as that seem to lack a certain je ne sais quoi?

                    • DDT did add a certain tang, sorta like the bhut jolokia of the ’50′s.
Although the rash lasted 2 weeks and scared the ladies away,it was well worth it.

Did we stray from the subject of baseball?
                      Stoeten’s gonna be pissed again.

    • Really?
      Triceps strain = blown shoulder?

  2. Santos is becoming one of the more injury prone jays. I wouldnt be surprised if him and lawrie switched places a month from now.

    • Santos was a short stop, but just because AA laughingly suggested The Maple Boner would be happy to take the mound doesn’t mean it would be a good idea.

      Oh, you meant Dunedin. Hmm.

  3. Santos had the same surgery Janssen had. In Janssen’s 1st year back after that he only threw 40 innings with an era of 5.85. Santos is probably following the same script.

  4. how many of you cunts are gonna stand up when AA gets revealed as a total flop?

for YEARS it’s been obvious and yet you numbers geeks keep inventing new ways to hype what actual eyes deny: this jays franchise is a mess. terrible personell decisions. declaring a strategy and then abadnoning to over pay injury prone high risk players on the downside of their careers… and yet you self declared authorities are trumpeting world series banners before the season even starts. really? fuck you all. learn self restraint. try to be a little, just a bare little, objective. then maybe you’d be a cool blog. but for years you’ve been ball lickers. let’s see how you handle this season in light of your prognosticatoins.
