Boston Red Sox v Toronto Blue Jays

Who knew they meant for him and not for us. Ugh.

Fuckface time again at the Rogers Centre tonight, and… it wasn’t supposed to be this way, was it? The Jays are desperate, already, to start clawing back Boston’s lead in the American League East after all the calls for calm and reminders of the season’s length ran into a brick wall called reality as the Jays went 1-6 on their road trip to Baltimore and the Bronx. (You’re still an idiot if you were panicking at 8-11, though).

John Farrell makes his second return to the city as the manager of the Red Sox, and… so what? If they like him, they can have him. I don’t even know anymore.

Scuttlebutt

Chris Toman tweets that Josh Johnson will throw a “light” side session tomorrow, with the hope that he can pitch on Friday. J.A. Happ has had his start moved up to Thursday (though he’ll still be going on regular rest, because of the off-day yesterday).

Scott McArthur tells us that, as of 3:30, R.A. Dickey had yet to go for an MRI, and that the plan was for him to continue to pitch through neck pain.

According to Mike Wilner, Jose Bautista said today that “tonight is the most important game of the season. Tomorrow night, tomorrow’s game will be the most important.”

Richard Griffin tweets: “Surprising comment from #jays John Gibbons: ‘We are where we should be.’ Realistic but surprising.”

Lastly, awful news by way of Bluebird Banter, who tell us that one-time Jays draftee, Canadian prospect Jake Eliopoulos, has passed away at just 21 years of age. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

  1. Nice to see runs later in the game. They’re showing some fight tonight.

  2. Don’t say the Red Sox don’t give up Jack. Don’t fucking say it you bearded fuckface.

  3. Hold fast gents. We can do this shit.

And when we do, they’ll know they can and that starts the slow rollllllllll.

  4. We didn’t burn the parade floats yet, did we?

  5. Like I said – well on the way to a 10 game winning streak.

  6. OK, so the ship might have gotten a large assed man to plug the hole temporarily

  7. Alright, fellow fans. I lost my shit at that Kawasaki error + ortiz rbis. I slammed my laptop closed, bellowed a curse and told this team that it’s too much.

That lasted about 10 minutes. I came back in time to see Eddie lift my spirits.

    But I swear… I’m on the edge. i can’t handle much more

  8. It’s over! Burn the parade floats!

  9. According to Morris and Buck, Casey Jannseen ‘dies a little bit with every Jays loss’. Lets just hope he is emotionally capable to pitch in this game

    • Must be secretly a cat with 9 lives for his heart to be still beating after the April this team has had.

  10. Well whatever happens, that graph thing tomorrow morning will be fun! Fun graphs guys! Almost as good as a pennant.

(But really – I feel a 10 game winning streak is starting tonight)

  11. Also, what’s wrong with Martin Lawrence

  12. Ollie can’t throw strikes either, gotta bring in Jansen premature and hope for the best

  13. Sportsnet is such a shit show..first the cut away and miss the strikeout pitch to middlebrooks..then they que the replay and its of a different pitch. wtf. they are almost as bad as the jays.

  14. Why would the Red Sox be looking at the bench options with the lead off on deck?

  15. Ok Mune Gets a point back for getting the lead runner.

    More please.

  16. Nice play by the guy named after my moped.

  17. Wow – Oliver – that 2nd pitch was incredible.

  18. Please black magic. Pleeeeeeaaaasssseeee,

  19. Die like a dog ellsbury.

  20. ok – so now we score 2 and Jansen comes in to close it out.

  21. Atta be Oliver, Janssen will have his work cut out for him with the meat of the order

  22. Went out for a Falafel and EE saved the day again. If Tracy Morgan was Superman his alter ego would be Edwin Encarnacion.

  23. So April 30th as St Edwin Day?

He drove away the dirty Bostonians with his HR bat.

    Think of the marketing opportunities!

  24. SUZANNE SUCKS PUSSY

  25. MLB 13 the show is the WORST predictor

  26. where you fucking haters now

  27. That feels like the first time I’ve ever seen JP hit a single

  28. y’all want me to knock im in?

  29. Good bunt. Colby and Brett prefer to strike out with runners in scoring position

  30. Thank you Farrell for not using Uehara so far.

  31. Cletus!

  32. I bet you Pedroia wishes he was a little bit taller right now

  33. Ok Cleatus!!! We Will Take THAT!!!!

  34. HUGE!

  35. if pedroia was a couple inches taller ……

  36. Nice Colby! Not much gets by that fucker Pedroia

  37. “If they can figure out a way to hold them here…”
Oh get fucked, Morris. They are up by two with their rather awesome closer set to come in. Try to not troll ever so hard.

  38. FLOW

  39. Is it just me or does Lawrie look small compared to last year

  40. Poor Janssen – the rest of the team used up all the shittiness this year and now we can only accept perfection from our closer.

  41. Over 600 comments.

  42. If Lawrie continues to be a defensive juggernaut, the jays should allow him to wear a blue cowboy has when playing third.

    He’s earned it.

  43. I don’t care what anyone says, this team clearly want to win. You can see it in their body language and reactions in this 9th. I’m happy to see this passion.

  44. I AM LOVING THIS!!!

  45. One to go! Why does this game feel like it is so damn important?

  46. Pound the zone casey

  47. Colby would’ve caught that

  48. SO NICE!!!!!

  49. THAT’S THE START.

  50. Casey 1-2-3 Janssen..Thank Fuck!!

  51. Colby caught it!

  52. We turn it around tonight

  53. Ortiz would look so good in a Jays uni

  54. What is this feeling? The game is over and I’m not screaming at the TV.

  55. Wow we won a game. Flags Fly Forever!

  56. remember when people were asking santos or jansen as closer……man I love jansen

    • I prefer Janssen. Though Jansen was good in the Fugitive, also starring Canadian Barry Morse.

  57. CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

  58. Casey Janssen is a fucking machine. 1-2-3 see ya later.

  59. Hey look! We won one! Good times!

    • And here you pretended to zone out until 2014.

      How’s Auntie Dora?

      • Auntie Dora?

        • Are you telling me your “90 year old Auntie Dora” of whom you spoke of off-season is a myth? These days it’s getting harder and harder to know what to believe in.

          • Did I talk about my Auntie Dora? I’d forgotten. Well the old lady is fine and still keeping an eye on her dress-manufacturing business.

  60. Gotta love Jansen!

  61. Buck: “The important thing is that Ortiz is up with nobody on and two out.”

Morris: “Yeah, he can’t hit a two run home run here.”

FUUUUCK, is it just me, or does Morris sound like Justin Bateman’s airhead character in Dodgeball, doing the colour commentary on ESPN 8 “The Ocho”?

  62. This would be a pretty awesome series to sweep. Tighten up the division a bit. Plus, Boston plays texas next, so hopefully the Rangers will give them a good face fucking

  63. 10 wins! double-digits! every win feels like 10 right now!

    !!!!!!!!

  64. Janssen people, Janssen. Two “S”

  65. This brought us all together, the pessimists and the optimists.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Sa_OQgWiPA

  66. A winning streak immediately follows a loss. G’night.

    • Classic troll

      • No Dabble, he’s a true fan.

You, however, are an absolute asshole.

        Got it?

        • Nope, I am still unclear. Well I understand what you are saying, but I don’t understand how you arrived at that conclusion.

For example, I watched every Raptors game this year up until their schedule conflicted with the Jays and I could not watch both. I also attended 2 games in person this year. However after the majority of games I was yelling at my team and various players such as Alan Anderson or the Coach who again and again made terrible set plays and match ups. I often talked to my friends or Realgm to vent with other fans about how poorly the team was playing and coaching, however I still watched every game.

I don’t see why fans cannot be frustrated/angry with play by certain players on professional teams (since it is their career and they make millions) and still be fans. Actually I don’t see how fans could actually watch the game and not be angry with certain things (Coaching with the Raptors in this example).

Either way it doesn’t matter because we are all here watching and weeping. And yes I am an asshole because I call people trolls and so on, and what have you. All in all its small potatoes.

      • I tend to stay out of this shit unless it gets out of hand.
But dabble you’re wrong,GSMC’s no troll.
Disagree with him, hell I have, but he’s one of the good ones.

      • So you actually understand what trolling is shithead:

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

        • haha this was obviously a joke about you posting something trollish on everything I say. Either way the Jays won and that’s all that matters since this is a Jays forum. We can start this up again tomorrow if we must.

  67. I actually agree with Zaun for once. JP is a shitacular receiver.

    • Maybe, but after a sweet win against all that is evil and bum chinned in this world, the question begs…….why dwell on a negative.

Tonight the Jays put two shots in the Death Star.

  68. I caught some part of the game, right up until the Ortiz base clearing double. I got so ill at that moment, I just tuned out, but had to check back on the Internet for the score. Oh look, EE hit a 2 run HR.

I’m not going to watch any broadcast of the Jays in this series. Let’s go Jays and start a run!

    • except then you miss plays such as:
EE hitting a two run bomb to re-take the lead

    • Thanks, I guess.

They did pretty good without you, and I trust can duplicate that result.
What on earth are you trying to convey, jayay?

  69. Royals fucking over the Rays right now. Very cool.

  70. Casey Janssen to the rescue!!!

Good Job by the Jays tonight. Hayhurst was wrong

Today is Chicken Wing Day in Toronto.

It’s a great night to be a blue jays fan.

Tonight is a game that makes all Jays fans unite. The odds were against us, but the team came through.

The batttle to regain the AL East begins tonight…

    Extra Wine in Oakville tonight….

    • Nice to see you happy oakville.

      • @ RADAR. Yes, I am very happy tonight. I was disgruntled today because tax season is always stressful, & I listened to hayhurst & blair saying the odds were weak for tonight because Morrow has a poor track record against the current players on the red so lineup.

This is a big victory for the Jays, although I know Stoeten is lurking to tell me it’s a small sample size & could easily be followed by defeat tomorrow.

At least for tonight, Jays fans can celebrate.

I bought Blair’s book on 40 years of the Jays. Very easy to read.

        • Don’t let what Stoeten says or what anybody else says, including me,deter your joy of being a fan.
Celebrate the wins, cry at the defeats and remember there’s always tommorrow.
It’s something some people don’t understand.

          • +1 Radar.

It’s weird being a Jays fan, which is the main reason I bought Blair’s book. Blair used to cover the Expos when I was living in Montreal.

I left Montreal at time when the Expos were the scrappy underdogs like the Rays battling the evil Atlanta Braves & the Jays, to us at least were like the Yankees, with big payroll, 50K fans in the seats , etc..

Now, I have been a die hard Jays fan since mid 2008, & trying to get a historical perspective of the team.

It baffles me that no one at interbrew knew what to do with the team.

Rogers tried to be a big spender for 3 years 2006-2008 but it didn’t work out.

            • It was reported at the time, when interbrew bought Labatt’s, that they stated they were in the beverage business and had no interest in running a baseball team.Where Beeston and Gillick were reported to have autonomy over the baseball operations, they now needed to justify the decisions they made.Gillick left shortly after the aquistion.Interbrew obviously had an asset but there were supposedly few buyers with the dollars and interest in buying the Jays.Until Uncle Ted.
At least thats how I remember it.
Beeston left in the late nineties to become president and COO of major league baseball.
Wonder why AA always seems to game the system? Maybe he has a mentor who knows the rules inside and out.
According to a section of the book “moneyball”,when Godfrey interviewed JPR he claimed the Jays were “bleeding money”. JPR assured Godfrey he could build a winner using some of the principle’s used in Oakland.
Now I’m rambling, we’ll leave the rest of the story for later. Or until Stoeten comes by and tells me how full of shit I am, How can i possibly know,?blah blah blah

            • I have fond memories of those 06 to 08 teams, even though they didn’t make the playoffs. I think in any other division they make the playoffs a couple years in that span (or at least get damn close).

That 06 team in particular was stacked. Doc, Burnett, Lilly, insanely good BJ, insanely good Wells, Rios, Glaus..

They got done in by the back end of their rotation. That was the year Towers went 2-10 or whatever. Wish that team had Happ.

  71. love myself a double order of chicken wings! yum yum!

  72. Right now I’m so excited I wish I could grow a set of tits and a third hand.

  73. That felt like a playoff game.

I can’t believe it’s only May and ever game feels like it’s must win.

  74. 700

  75. Good win, but huge game tomorrow with a pitching matchup that hardly favours us.

  76. Do the Red Sox get a tax break for employing a sex offender as their first base coach?

  77. Didn’t like Jack Morris as a kid. I certainly don’t like him now.

  78. http://torontosportsmedia.com/sports-and-toronto/rogers-completes-purchase-of-the-score-network/

Apparently a Blue Jays postgame show and something called “Blue Jays Xpress” will be airing beginning May 21 on the rebranded Rogers-owned The Score TV Network (not to be confused with The Score digital, purveyor of fine digital media such as DJF)

  79. Anyone able to get the GIF of the “hot girls” when they scan the crowd and one gives the camera guy the finger?

  80. 10 win April
coming soon – 20 win May

We are going to ride the chicken wing!!!!

  81. on the 27th game of the season, it feels like Sept, and we are 1 or 2 out. This emotional rollercoaster is killing me.
