  1. Wait, we’ve gone from ‘small sample size, assholes’ to ‘probably fucked’ awful quickly. I don’t think the season’s gone to plan at all. But we’re not in probably fucked territory for at least 3 weeks are we?

    • The 1-6 stretch in Baltimore and NY was very bad.

    • @Isabella.

I am amused that any intial concerns that were raised about about the Jays 10-20 games into the season were dismissed as “it’s early”.

It was pretty clear early on that the defense was a problem. the starting pitching was weak , & the offense was pitiful.

I am glad that Stoeten has acknowledged reality that this team is “fucked” in terms of the playoffs.

I wanted this team to be in the playoffs more than anything, but based on current performance it seems unlikely.

We can still enjoy some good baseball once Reyes & the rotation is back. 80-85 wins is still possible.

Walk off walk to lose the game. Good Job Lincoln!.

  2. I can’t believe I find myself wanting Boston to win 95 games after listening to this podcast. I hate Boston so much but because of how bitter Stoeten is about Farrell, I hope they crush the Jays. So fucking annoying. Its May of the next season already…GET OVER IT!

    • It’s not the way that Farrell left the Jays. It was the fact that they were trying to build something, and it was a complete waste of time because John Fuckhole didn’t even want to be here. I don’t care what options are out there, if you sign a 3 year deal, WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU TRYING TO GET OUT OF IT AFTER ONE YEAR. If you don’t understand the resentment, maybe your not that big of a fan. Not to mention, in the order things went down, we also lost our Butters at the same time.

I’ve always hated Boston, but this past off season made it personal. If you don’t understand it, GET OVER IT. The resentment is not going away!!!

    • I’m glad you were so fooled by my acting, Dave. Thanks.

  3. I guess I don’t get it. Right after he left people are angry and also saying he is a terrible manager and they were happy he was gone. And right after he left, they overhauled the roster so I don’t understand ‘what they were building’ while he was there? Building new ways to put pitchers on the 60 day DL for consecutive days in a row? That kind of building? He wasn’t a great manager and he is gone to a division rival that we all hope does bad regardless of who the manager is. Get over that?

  4. I get being right out of patience enough with Ricky to be scoffing (already) at the confidence issue but … that doesn’t make it any less what the problem probably is, more than any other one thing. That weird mental thing he has going on was there long ago (his hang-dog body language when things didn’t go tickety-boo didn’t just start up last year … and was noticed by some, among them, Joe f’ing Maddon, you can bet) and is rooted in head-shit from who-knows-where and needs to be gotten to and addressed, directly. And the sooner the better if there’s any hope for him at all. Which at this point, I’m not banking on. But I am still hoping.

    • There’s no reason to believe there’s any relationship between what you think you’re seeing in his body language and why he isn’t pitching well, though.

      • I’m not so sure. I think there’s a connection. We’ve long seen how Ricky slumps his body and lowers his head when things start going bad … and for people who study body language and kinesics, those body movements that have been remarked upon by many, as well as (probably) a dozen other less obvious signals we don’t notice, suggests (I’d suppose) internal struggles in a big kind of way. I doubt it’s just coincidence that when we see him – sometimes, suddenly – dragging himself around on the mound looking like he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders, we then see extreme shittyness on the mound. I don’t know about you, but there’s been quite a few times during the last few years when I’ve wanted to tell him to ‘straighten-the-fuck-up and pretend, at least, to still be in control of what’s going on out there!’. Cuz the hitters see it. And I bet their eyes light up when they do.

  5. Dear Oliver:

Because you are a good (if untutored) writer, please learn the difference between “disinterested” and “uninterested”. You’re better than a mix-up like that.

  6. I think you guys were a little harsh on Hayhurst here. I’m not saying I agree with what he’s saying whole sale but there is certainly some aspect of truth to it. I mean, it’s not total BS. He’s just drawing on his experiences it might not be exactly the same as what Romero is going through, but I still see nothing wrong with it. You can’t take what he says as 100% truth but he has a point which is worth considering. I highly recommend reading the Bullpen Gospels by the way and I think his blog post is a somewhat a watered down version of what he wrote in that book. Having read that book gives a little more insight and makes his position a little more nuanced than you made it out to be here.

  7. needs more doomriders.
