Tornto Blue Jays v Boston Red Sox

The Jays continue their home series against the Tampa Bay Rays and their non-David Price, non-James Shields pitching, sending staff ace Ramon Ortiz to the hill, hoping to find just one small corner’s worth of pixie dust left in his bag, as he turns 2013 into the first year in which he’s made at least three Major League starts since he was a member of the Minnesota Twins back in 2007.

Uh… fingers crossed? Uh… I dunno. Yunel Escobar, everybody!

Junior hockey? Seriously?

Ben Nicholson-Smith tweets that the Jays (read: the Buffalo Bisons) have released Miguel Batista. Chad Beck has been placed on the DL, while Thad Weber has been activated by the Triple-A affiliate.

Shi Davidi adds that, as part of the above transaction, Ricardo Nanita has been moved from Double-A New Hampshire to the Bisons.

According to a tweet from Brendan Kennedy: “Maddon said he believes the Rogers Centre turf is ‘way bouncier’ than the turf at The Trop. ‘Honestly I think ours is more true.’ ” WHAT??!? You mean this thin layer of film is shit to play on?

No, but seriously, though. Junior hockey?

  1. I fucking hate the cash grab that is sportsnet one

    • Here’s a $12 beer to ya!

    • Agreed.

Isn’t shit like the Memorial cup what an “alternative sports channel” like Sportsnet 1 is for?

      Fuck off already.

      • +1.

It’s hilarious hiw Rogers markets the network as “everything Blue Jays” & then puts the content on a separate channel.

How many memorial cup fans are there anyway?

        • I’m a fan this year.

But only because my Halifax Mooseheads are the best team in forever.

Routing the London Knights 5 – 0 in the first period as we speak.

    • And here I was pissed that the cable was out. The free cable that I don’t pay for because seriously other than the Jays am I gonna watch that shit (that’s not good enough to download) yet don’t get the SN1 games.

      No need for anger anymore.

  2. Sweet ‘corner of the bag’ reference. Classic.

  3. Whatever happened to that Maicer Itzuris guy? Also, I really hate Bonifacio.

  4. If only Ramon Ortiz wasn’t 150 years old

  5. Over/under on Ks for Ortiz is 2.5.

    Whaddaya got?

  6. For those of us without SN1…but with a MLB.TV package, make sure to check out sites like unblock us to be able to watch the jays game. The other option is if you have a rogers account.

    Fuck SN1

  7. It doesn’t look pretty, but it’s free.

  8. I’m not one of those lucky ones with SportsnetOne, so expect an extra cranky bean weasel tonight.

The stream I’ve got is the Tampa feed, so I’m missing out on Buck + Tabby + all their bon mots. It’s a sad day.

    • Great text-in poll question on the Rays feed:
Which of these last place teams have the best chance to make the playoffs?
      1) Toronto
      2) Minnesota
      3) Milwaukee
      4) LA Dodgers
      5) None of the above

  9. I dont care what happens this game..the fact that JPA has been moved out of the cleanup spot is enough “success” for me to be satisfied. Cito or farrell would have gone 50 more games before changing the order.

Sometimes hitting the ball too hard can be a curse.

  11. Sweet gravy Hitler the Rays play-by-play guys are fucking brutal. Especially fat Howie Mandela.

  12. Cobb is going to throw 100 splitters. we are going to have to be patient and work the count.

  13. Need to K Wolverine right here.

  14. wow ortiz is throwing some shitty pitches up there tonight.

  15. Instead of having a former player (Pat Tabler) do colour commentary has any broadcast ever gone with a scout? I would imagine someone who’s job is to observe the game from the outside would be much better suited to do colour commentary. I would much rather listen to a Keith Law type than Gregg Zaun.

  16. Boooooooooooooooooooo

  17. It’s not so much former jays beating the shit out of us. its the fact that they sucked balls ..left..and then immediately were good again. im talking about johnson and hill.

    • @voice.

It’s remarkable that Hill & Johnson both found success in other teams. especially Hill.

  18. Need grass in there, light reflection makes it look sooooo plastic.

  19. Four guys up.. four hard hit balls.

  20. Who knew that Tabby would think ‘knewing’ was a word?

This is the gold you’re missing bean.

  21. i know its 6 up and 6 down, but really some good at bats thus far save for our team leader

  22. I wish we had Razor Ramon pitching.

  23. It’s kind of hard to take advantage of the “Dickey Factor” when you throw at about the same velocity.

  24. at least now we are closer to seein nolan or stroman as emergency starter rather than retread

  25. Longo is so good.

Completely fooled and he serves that into the outfield.

    • Arencibia would disagree with that approach. You must try to hit a homer every single time up at the plate or else you are not a team leader and certainly not a winner.

  26. fuck I am tired of Buck and Tabby sucking off every player on opposing teams, especiially if they used to play for the Jays – bring on the Hawk, I am ready to listen to a homer

  27. what will go unnoticed in this inning..the shitty bounce through by bonafacio that should have been a d double play

  28. why not intentionally walk loney here and bring in lincoln?

  29. Man Encarnacion has become a great first basemen.

  30. The parrot’s flashing some sweet glove.

  31. how the fuck does that fall in?

  32. Greasier then a Saturday morning shit.

  33. I was so excited when we got Colby. Sigh

  34. Hey just gettin here, not looking good. What happened to our staff ace?

  35. *blows whistle*

  36. Its bad when after watching the 1st inning, I can be 100% sure which games the Jays will lose.

  37. Boooooooooooooooo

  38. This rays lineup sucks. they have one guy who I fear. Unforunatelyl , that guy is hitting about 750 against us

  39. Big inning coming up.

  40. lets get a couple here,….and then a coulpe later, and then win it in the 9th on a kawasaki walk off

  41. Well 1-3 is about to come up, we’re back in it if we get something out of this half of the inning.

  42. This years team sucks,,,lets talk about prospects and next year, just like we did in the spring

  43. I just can’t listen to Buck and Tabs slobbering all over the fucking Rays (or any of the Jays’ opponents) all fucking game long. Can they shut the fuck up for at least one inning?

    • + Billion and Billions ! Or a whole fucking game. I get how wonderful the other teams are! Fuck the Jays are in last place. Is there anyone who DOESNT get it?

  44. longoria vs us this year.

    11 for 19

    thats fucking stupid.

  45. What has 100 legs and arms, 25 heads and 50 eyes?

  46. One home run in 45 games? I guess the verdict is in on Melky and PEDs

  47. Again, everything soft falls in for the Rays while every hard hit ball is an easy out for the Jays. This is so frustrating to watch.

  48. Will no one rid me of this troublesome Kelly Johnson?

  49. C’mon Kittenface!

  50. ok, so we have hit the fucking shit out of the ball against this luck box and nothing to show for it.

  51. Ive seen this shitshow too many times this year. Inadequate starting pitching( not surprising today). And the offense getting manhandled by a good pitcher.

  52. weird what happens when you are willing to take the ball the other way.

  53. Longoria double play ball. Thank Christ.

  54. way to work that count jp.

  55. whats our babip today? fucker has one strikeout and we are lacing shit all over the place

  56. Brett Lawrie is really a very bad hitter this year. I know he came back early from his injury, but he has had enough time. What the heck is wrong with him?

    • Either too much or not enough Red Bull. As with cocaine, one has to get the balance correct.

  57. I’ve gotta either quit drinking or drink more during Jays games. All the games are starting to blend into one loooooong one.

  58. Wish someone was on base….

  59. Well, he hit the shit out of that one

  60. Fucking rally killers.

  61. The Rays announcers were shocked and awed by Rasmus blast.

  62. More typical Kelly Johnson-ness.

I swear last year he struck out or hit into a double play every at bat.

  63. C’mon KittenFace.

A nice saucer of milk if you hit me a double.

  64. The outcome of this game cannot be changed

  65. If Im cobb, I dont give Lind anything to hit..either he walks..or he gets himself out. JPA is a virtual auto out behind him.

  66. you have to be fucking kidding me.

once he stopped the ball in the infield, it meant even if lind were safe, JP was up inning was over anyway

  67. Booooooooooooooooo

  68. haha, Buck just said four DP’s…

  69. I’m on beer 4, about to make the call to the bullpen. Captain Morgan, a strong right hander is jogging in from the freezer.

    I smell a comeback.

  70. Buck Martinez: “4 DPs.” Lol.

  71. That police cop better be keeping an eagle eye on Lueke in the bullpen.

  72. JPA…just useless.

  73. Lets hammer this ugly stork.

    • It’s pretty rare that he even gets a full count. It’s even rarer that he actually fucking walks.

      • fuck, i don’t know why i abuse myself by looking up his splits:
        21 AB’s reach a full count
        -1 walk
        -12 k’s

  74. what is amazing is that he DOES get to three balls not that uncommonly….its how fucking rare it is that he walks after that that is so hilariously terrible.

its amazing that a guy with this much power is not able to realize that pitchers are not going to throw him meatballs.

its one thing when a guy like izturis doesnt walk…pitchers are just not afraid of throwing him meatballs down the middle…

but when a guy with the power of arencibia can simply not EVER walk despite pitchers nibbling against him just tells you he has no concept of where the plate is.

    • +1-echos what I have been blabbing about him. I’d like to hear him tell Barry Bonds he walked too much. The reason you get to be a great RBI guy and hitter etc is to force the pitcher to have to give you something fat to hit. Generally this means getting ahead in the count and why 2-0 and 3-1 are so good as the pitcher can’t “paint” as much. JPA, constantly behind 01,02 and 1-2 is forced to swing at a lot of bad balls. Throw in the fact he is dumb and swings at borderline pitches anyway, he is an easy out and one of the weakest I have seen at prolonging rallies. However, it looks like we are stuck with him at least for this year

  75. Spud, help me out, I need a word that means likeable yet shitty.

  76. What’s worse: Arencibia’s OBP or that fucking irritating as fuck Santa Fe commercial?

  77. Okay! What’s going on here? Runners on base? The heart of the lineup coming up?

  78. We’ve just about used up Peralta.

    Is Leuke warm?

  79. I am listening to the game online, but why the fuck was Gose not pinch running for Cabrera here in the 8th?

I dont get it. Hed be on 3rd.

    • No one out with your cleanup hitter up, he’d have been sent to the minors if he was thrown out trying to get to 3.

      • I guess. I cant see it.

But I thought this was why they brought Gose up. To upgrade defensively late in the game and pinch run. This is that time, precisely.

        • Cabrera’s run doesn’t mean anything, Bautista is the tying run.
Had it been Cabrera on ist I could see your point.

Either way I don’t think Gose tries to get to third.

  80. Jose’s really adapted his swing from the past couple of years. Now he’s able to hit line drive singles in high-pressure situations, he’s not just swinging for the fences all the time like he used to

  81. fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  82. I think Jim Hickey’s probably a good Pitching coach

  83. Fuck, if Arencibia comes through in one clutch situation it will fuel his shitty approach for months to come

  84. wow what luck!

  85. Have no fear, Adam Lind is here!

  86. can we pinch hit izturis for JPA?

  87. They should pinch hit Blanco for aaron

  88. I’ll snort a line of wasabi if JP comes through here.

  89. If i were the rays id consider ibbing lind and facing jpa and lawie. Those 2 are bound to fuck up in high leverage situations either by k’s or gidp

  90. Time for LEADERSHIP!

  92. Woooooooooooooow.

  93. Why couldnt he just strike out like he normally does?

  94. Fucking Mc Fuckingson.
