We’ve got ourselves a manatee! Er… matinée!

The Jays play an oddly– read: spectacularly– timed businessman’s special today, in a getaway-ish game for the Rays beginning at 4:37 PM ET. As someone with an office downtown, uh… moar please.

The Rays send Jeremy Hellickson to the hill, facing Mark Buehrle and a lineup led-off by Anthony Gose, who will give Melky Cabrera a rest and take over in left field. It’s… another game in 2013. I don’t even know anymore…

Hey maybe an actual series win though, huh?

Scuttlebutt

It’s all Brendan Kennedy, all the time, in today’s scuttlebutt, as the Toronto Star reporter tweets that John Gibbons has been reluctant to announce Chad Jenkins as the starter for his club on Friday. The pitcher is preparing to start, but is available out of the bullpen tonight as well, and Richard Griffin notes that with Sean Nolin set to start for New Hampshire on Thursday, and Marcus Stroman on Friday, either could be possibilities instead.

Gibbons, according to another Kennedy tweet, says that “as it stands” Ramon Ortiz is still slated for Sunday.

We’re also given word that Melky Cabrera is available as a pinch hitter today.

Gibbons “had no problem with JPA swinging at Rodney’s first pitch yesterday with the bases loaded,” Kennedy tells us, “saying when closers get ahead they tend to put you away.”

Lastly, Kennedy also says that, while nothing is official yet, it appears as though the Dome will be closed for this afternoon/evening’s tilt. Ugh.

  1. That game should count as a Win Above Replacement for Jose…

  2. Good Job by Bautista!. A 1 man wrecking machine First series win by the Jays in 16 series.

No matter what happens the rest of this season, games like this renews my faith in being a baseball fan.

  3. My record improved from 0-3 to 2-3 this week :-)

  4. Was at the game. 3-0 record when I go. I should go more often. Booed the shit out of jpa. Hate that piece of shit. Jbats was the only hitter that wasnt a complete shitbag today. He carried us today. He is a beast though so Im not surprised. Also, really worried about lawrie. I think he really needs a trip down to the minors to work on his hitting. He had like 2 or 3 weak foul outs today.

    • Didn’t you see the recent post? Don’t boo the home team.

    • The announcers were talking about Y. Escobar using a bigger bat to correct his swing. I have noticed that Lawrie is fouling off a lot of balls to the right. Is he swinging too late or is he swinging too early?

      • Brett Lawrie needs to calm the shit down, stand still, swing properly, and keep his eyes on the ball. Maybe drink milk or water instead of Red Bull.

  5. Although I’ve been enjoying the recent run of games, all the negativity on-line had started to grate on me lately. Every botched play just made me cringe knowing that some troll somewhere would be blowing it up into the greatest travesty in the history of the sport.

Thankfully a field trip to the dome this aft with some co-workers who literally knew nothing about baseball (they asked how “points” are scored) and a completely entertaining game (plus some late heroics fron Joey bats) reminded me there’s a tonne of great, enjoyable baseball out there this summer win or lose. If you just take a step back and drink a beer, or grab a ballpark dog, and have fun watching a game.

The haters are going to be miserable no matter what, so fuck ‘em.

    • Don’t worry – I’ll still be here to spew negativity! Assuming I don’t leave for good, as promised.

    • Love the renewed passion.

There’s plenty of good folks who feel the same Kawasaki, stay aboard.
Lots of laughs and liquor left.
      Fuck the pessimists.

Baseball – this shit is beautiful.

  6. Anybody catch when JP threw out buddy at secnd, Kawasaki did a pushup?

    like…..what? What a wonderful weirdo.

  7. Sean Nolin is no longer listed to start tomorrow for New Hampshire. Coming to Toronto?

  8. JPA says walks don’t matter…if DeRosa goes up with that attitude in the 10th and flails away, probably resulting in a K, Bautista doesn’t come to the plate to drive in the winning run.

  9. Checked MLB.com and the next three starters we’re facing are TBD/FreddyGarcia/TBD

Could be a lot worse than that

  10. Stoeten needs to see a vet ASAP. Filthy fucking animal!

  11. http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/jays-top-prospects-could-join-single-a-vancouver/

INteresting info here that Anthony Alford isn’t going to be playing QB at Ole Miss… he’s being moved to cornerback. Maybe this will impact his baseball/football decision?

  12. Thank you businessperson’s special. I had meetings all through and missed the game. So all I could get were the highlights on the mlb site. I have to say I am beginning to hate Bo Jackson and that dangerous-sounding ‘energy booster’ whose ad I have to sit through before every clip.

  13. hmm missed this game completely. and they win. I just hope that the Jays can keep it rolling.. losing 2 to NYY and 1 to tampa really sucks, but over the last stretch of games they ahve had a pretty good winning %.. the longer they can keep that up the closer to 500 they will get. and then maybe then, they may have a chance, if only some other teams can crush the yankees a bit.

  14. I think AA is working an angle on JPA to move him (so my sources say).

  15. I really would not have a problem seeing Thole share some time with JP.
I think his bat plays fine (if he’s a good defensive catcher), but he’s shown me things this year that make me believe he’s not a good catcher to throw to.

  16. Why was Stoeten on the TV!?!?! Did Buck and Tabby make comment about him?!?! Or was it just a random fan cam shot?

I really wish Zubs would come out of hiding to give us a graph of yesterdays game!

  17. Never heard the expression “Canadian Tuxedo” before.
Is this common in the States?

  18. anyone see that chick when they went up to Jamie to check on the catch? damnnnn

  19. Remarkable! Its truly awesome paragraph, I have got much clear idea on the topic of from this article.
