De-fault! De-fault! De-fault! The two sweetest words in the English language!

The Rasmus Cup appears to have come to an early conclusion, as Colby’s brother Corey was demoted this morning to the Braves’ Triple-A affiliate in Gwinnett County, Georgia. And just in time, too, with the cup series even at one game apiece, and Esmil Rogers making his first big league start since he took the hill 13 times for the 2011 Rockies… which… didn’t go particularly well.

Dickey tomorrow, at least! Which… should be a hell of a lot more confidence-inspiring, shouldn’t it?

Scuttlebutt

Brett Lawrie is shut down for a week, according to a tweet from Brendan Kennedy, and will be out for approximately three.

Mike Wilner tweets that the results of testing on Lawrie showed no break, and that doctors thought he could play in a day or two, but that the ankle swelled up during yesterday’s game.

Kennedy tweets that Jose Reyes should be good to play a rehab game in two weeks. Wilner adds that the club’s trainers supposedly told Alex Anthopoulos that Reyes could probably outrun anybody on the team right now, save for Anthony Gose.

Kennedy also tells us that Todd Redmond is only with the Jays for one day, as insurance for Esmil Rogers, and will be sent out tomorrow for a position player.

Barry Davis tweets that Edwin Encarnacion will take some balls at third base, but that John Gibbons hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll see any actual action there.

Mark DeRosa is the Jays’ emergency catcher, tweets Ben Nicholson-Smith.

  1. “To start the DP!”
    Buck likes it dirty!

  2. The Jays are currently pitching a shutout of the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves behind Esmil Rogers, Juan Perez, and Neil Wagner.

I just wanted to write that sentence down to see if it felt as weird as I thought it would.

  3. Welcome to the real East division bitches.

  4. oh the irony, the jays are about to actually shut out a team for what second time this year using mostly AAA pitchers

  5. rasmus radio car commercial is hilarious

  6. Find me the person that bought a Prius because of that commercial so I can laugh at and/or punch them.

  7. what da.. casey is okay now?

  8. Welcome to the bullpen Marshall Mathers.

  9. jpa….. donstrikeout.. that was for you..

  10. Ok, the Jays are winning but who gives a fuck. How are the Bisons doing? Rob? You still with us? Rob? Rob? Oh my god, someone call 911.

  11. FUCK JP, that is the second time with two on.

  12. Wow JPA is a sack of shit. Unbelievable

  13. That was a fanatastic called out ball by I’M JAPANESE! /TAKEABOW

  14. Gose looks different when tracking a flyball from Cabrera or Bonifacio.

  15. gg

  16. Fuck these Barves.

  17. Fuckin ol’gibbers managed the fuck out of this one.

  18. Janssen is amazing. Glad he’s not injured too.

  19. Welcome back Casey, you glorious son of a bitch.

  20. Shut out by committee of unknowns (well, except Janssen). Gotta love it

  21. Ok so if RA can somehow nail down a win tomorrow, things should be a little better.

  22. Perez is a fucking BEAST

    And Wagner, damn

  23. Dickey/Morrow/Buehrle/Johnson/Romero: 38gs, 5.6ip/gs, 5.59era
    Happ/Jenkins/Ortiz/Laffey/Nolin/Rogers: 14gs, 4.6ip/gs, 5.04era

  24. 5-1 vs. NL teams. Hard not to like.

  25. Papelbon almost coughed it up to his old team. But Sox and Yankees lose (Rays and Orioles lose).

  26. GREAT GAME! WOOOOOO!!!! BEST PITCHERS IN THE WORLD ON THE JAYS

  27. Yankees and Massholes lose.

  28. AA is still on the boat. Talked about .500 by the time Reyes gets back and then going on a little run. I can’t fucking wait.

  29. So, the Angels were riding an 8-game win streak a few days ago, yet now they’re only 1/2 a game ahead of the Jays. The Royals were flying high when we played ‘em, and they’re now below us.

Things change quickly. The Jays are still only 7 games back of the WC with a pitching staff currently held together with spit and prayers. With a few better bounces on the homestand they could be 26-27.

    Stay on the fucking boat.

  30. Slowly creeping up those wildcard standings.

  31. wilner lies once again says bono is hitting .300 last 14 games so I checked.only hitting .250 with todays 2 hits.

    • actually, he’s not lying.

Bonifacio is hitting exactly .300 (15/50) over his last 15gms. His ops is right about .800 over those 15gms, too.

  32. Wahm out today. Gon’ be wahmah tomorrah.

  33. I caught the game late (6th inning), but Perez’s mechanics…AHHH!

  34. What a win! wow!

Hope RA’s butterly works tomorrow, and they start a roll

  35. Butterfly! Don’t want no damn buttery on that ball…could slip out of his hand!

  36. good night….ive said enough

  37. What is the book on Wagner? I saw a sinker that no one could hit, and 97 working the zone. I’ll take that for the rest of the year if it’s doable. There’s got to be some catch for this dude to not have already made it up here til now. Looks like he is dominating at Buffalo.

  38. First of all, I LOVE THIS FUCKING BLOG! NEXT…. What the fuck has happened to our starting rotation? If we had our guys pitching to their norms, and not being injured, we would be in first place!! The other things we need, is for a catcher that can frame a pitch PROPERLY, so that the pitchers have the ability to pound the strikezone with confidence.. We need a REAL 2B as well.. Other than that, i think better baseball will be coming our way!

  39. Can someone please send gibbons a memo to get jpa the fuck out of the cleanup spot? At least against righties. We have already been burned with him hitting 4th enough. Other than that, go jays!!

  40. Well it was about damn time they called up Perez. Had no idea about Wagner’s stuff though.

    • I remember the Inning Tabby was talking about in ST. Wasn’t expecting anything and next thing you know, he’d struck out the side.

  41. yeah we won tonight.

But Stroman got lit up good in AA ball. 1 IP 8 runs.

    wtf

  42. Knocked out with what we saw out of those new – to us – arms last night. Exciting. Esmil Rogers showed terrific *cool* to get out of that early jam … which he wouldn’t have been in had Rasmus caught that somewhat catchable ball (we’ve seen a couple too many of those this season; maybe in recent seasons) … . and on an unrelated (not totally) note … I don’t know about Gose’s bat but seeing him glide in the outfield calms my very soul. anybody else see that Braves pop up in the ninth and half expect to see Melky (who’s bat usually makes up for his fielding troubles, fortunately) stumbling toward it a bit too late? I could see it dropping. Gose made it look routine. If he learns to hit with better consistency … oh baby, we’ve got an outfielder.

Then there was … Juan I-don’t-care-about-no-stinking-smooth-delivery Perez – with a wiild fastball that naturally seems to slide a bit making it look faster than the gun even showed. So fun to watch …

then Neil Wagner who’s look reminds me of Mike Timlin … and in the words of Bull Durham’s Skip (Trey Wilson), ‘this guy’s got some serious shit’. I also like that he’s right out there (I’d say) with his intention on closing now and then, saying after last night’s game “I was excited to get the opportunity and hoping to justify their confidence in throwing me out there in a pretty close game late.” I love Janssen — luv-luv-luv — since day one of him coming in to close, that heart thumping adrenaline was just, I thought, what the doctor ordered. But … if his shoulder IS a bit wonky and we’re not as sure about how reliable he’s gonna be over the course of the long season … or if he just needs the odd break … having Wagner in the wings doesn’t seem like a bad option. If he’s happy being Duane Ward to Janssen’s Henke for a while (sorry for all the old school) we might have a little something going on. Go Jays.

Don’t think Corey was demoted, had a race to go to.
