Boston Red Sox v Toronto Blue Jays

Friday night’s 6-1 triumph over the vaunted Rangers was a pretty nice start to the weekend, although, running up against Yu Darvish in game No. 2 today may pose more of a challenge for the local nine. While Darvish takes his near 35% K rate to the hill for Texas, the Blue Jays counter with Mark Buehrle and his arsenal of shit.

Reaching three consecutive wins today would be a nice little accomplishment… the kind that might get something a little more substantial going.

Minimal changes for to the Blue Jays lineup today, but Edwin Encarnacion will swap DH duties with Adam Lind. The Rangers slot Lance Berkman in at first base, give Geovany Soto a start at catcher, and flip a few bums around in the outfield. Let’s make it two in a row versus Texas and send Josh Johnson and his finesse stuff in for the kill tomorrow, ok?

It appears as though the resurrection of Dustin McGowan is nearly complete. The right-hander will be activated today, and John Gibbons intends to use him as a 1-2 inning reliever, according to Shi Davidi.

Evan Crawford has been DFA in order to make room for McGowan, via Steph Rogers tweet.

Elsewhere in reconciliation, Ricky Romero and his newfound ‘fuck all y’all’ attitude pitched moderately well in Buffalo yesterday. Oh, the most cautious optimism.

John Lott has more on the additions of Chien-Ming Wang and Josh Thole, including some quotes from R.A. Dickey on the impending reunion with his old battery mate.

Gibbons confirms that Wang will start on Tuesday in Chicago, via Scott MacArthur.

Darren Oliver worked a hitless inning in his second rehab outing. Davidi notes he could return Sunday or Monday.

  1. highlight of the season

    • I think AA should cut bate with Jansen, and trade him now for something worth. I mean we have enough fire ballers that could close right now, he is at his peak sell high.

      • Is this a joke?

Heck no. Janssen’s the one guy I feel absolutely confident about when he comes into the game.

Truth be told, officer – I’ve had a few adult beverages. I’m in no condition to operate anything with a motor and a rotating blade.

    • I hate those commercials. With a passion.

    • You gotta do it, that’s the secret.
Really? Doing it is the secret? All these years I thought sitting on my ass was the secret.

      • Get out there and kill yourself kid. I’m proud of you.

She’s in that elastic time (see; suspended animation) between too young and too late.
      Remember what semi-innocent felt like?

      • Yes, I do. It;s when I was longing to go to Itchycoo park ( small faces with Rod Stewart). I got high there. Anyway, these younguns like Bean sure have a different and unique in a positive way view on the games and comments and so on.

        Nice win laddys

  17. toronto’s french wolf defeats texas’ english wolf.

  18. Maybe I’m just a blind optimist but this might be the start of a beautiful run. Good shot tomorrow with Johnson on the hill. Then Dickey to lead off a three game set against the fairly shitty White Sox. Win three of the next four and .500 isn’t too far off.

    • Reyes is eligible to come off the DL on Thursday. Johnson seems right and so does Dickey. I’m starting to like Buerhle a lot too. Add the very good bullpen and a decent lineup minus a few shitty hacks and this ain’t bad. A few weeks of streaky ball and it looks not entirely stinky.

  19. holy fuk, the jays Bullpen had only let up 1 run in 30.5 inning.. prior to janssen’s blown save.. and then pitch another 9 fucking innings of scoreless ball… clearly these guys deserve some recognition.. and for their efforts I salute them..

and fuck Adam Lind. Where was Gibbons for the last 3 years..

  20. EE has now cracked the top 5 in voting for DH category – keep voting people! Probably no chance of catching Ortiz in first but spam the fuck out of the voting process anyway!

and don’t vote in Kawa please, that’s just lunacy as much as I like the guy

    then again I just voted for Lind 25 times . . .

    What the hell?

  22. I’ve been warned to make more spelling and grammatical errors.

  23. I was at the game today & stayed till around the 11th inning. I had to leave because I had dinner reservations in Oakville.

I was upset that Casey couldn’t get the save in the 9th inning but a blown save was bound to happen.

I am shocked that Gibby put McGowan into the game in a high leverage situation, but at least he got 1 out.

It was a very impressive win today. Both teams had chances to score but couldn’t get it done.

I was very impressed with the strong crowd . 44K for a last place team in June is pretty impressive.

Hopefully Rogers will realize that if they let AA try & build on this team next year they will have a shot at the playoffs in 2014.

The Jays have a good chance of improving on their 73 win season last year.

The jays bullpen was very impressive today & Buerhle deserves kudos for pitching wel today, I suspect by September, his ERA will be below 4.0

    • There’s a few in the lunatic fringe and who are calling for AA to be fired. But they gave JPR 8 years and AA will be starting his 5th year in November. AA’s approach has been proactive and while he traded a lot of prospects to address glaring holes and move up his agenda, his later draft picks, guys like Sanchez, Osuna, Norris, Jiminez, Nessy etc. should benefit from this with more time to develop.

      • @Karl

        +1.for staying course with AA.

I know AA must be upset that all the trades haven’t worked out. Watching the lineup yesterday, there are still holes in the team. Who would have thought that Izturis & Bonifacio would be hitting 205. Kawasaki OBP is around 330. JPA is about 245. That’s unacceptable. I thought JPA would come through yesterday with one of his clutch hits in extra innings.

JPA needs to be put lower in the lineup, 7-9. Thole needs to call a few more games.

What’s amazing is Kittenface is the new star of he jays.

As a fan it was a great day to watch baseball outside. Rogers Centre is decent when the roof is open but they should have kept more concession stands open with the extra inning game.

        • JPA needs to be put out of his misery. Until he feels the sting of a little adversity, he won’t open his mind to the fact that he has a lot to learn. He needs to be sent down to Buffalo until he demonstrates a willingness to change an approach that simply isn’t working. See: Kittenface, Adam

          • @GSMC.

I doubt AA will send him to Buffalo, but definitely give Thole more playing time. His at bats are not acceptable.

  24. Longest day ever. Good night DJF.

  25. So the Bisons are on a homestand from June 17-24. Any chance Reyes is on a rehab with the team at that point? If so I’m making the short trip down for sure. Maybe a DJF outing powered by cold Coors Lights could be arranged.

  26. So you’re telling me that you missed the second game I went way out on a limb and correctly prophesied, receiving no end of shit in the process, just so you could leave Toronto to respect dinner reservations in Oakville?

Do I have that right, you value whore you?

    Your truly, Spud

    • @small potatoes.

Why would you care if I left the game in the 11th inning?

Normally I would stay at the game till it ended , but I had to get to Oakville for 7pm.

I do think Rogers has to change its policy and allow more concession stands open in case the game goes to extra innings.

Maybe Aramark wants to stop paying its employees after 9 innings so they go home.

  27. Amazing game. I don’t blame Janssen. Sooner or later he was gonna blow a save. The bullpen was amazing. And Lind is this year’s feel-good story. They’re beginning to round into form. It should be an interesting second half!

    Shitty about Lincoln though.

    • How many innings has Janssen had lately? The main lesson Gibby should take from this is that Janssen needs to stay sharp. That particular point probably wont matter in the 2nd half of the season when/if they get closer to the pack. Santos, Oliver and Reyes will all be back soon.

  28. After weeks of lowering my expectations I awoke this morning with a renewed hope that the Jays may have a chance to get into the playoff picture over the next month.

Pray for me people for I have once again lost my way.
