Boston Red Sox Photo Day
Here we go! The newly not-terrible Blue Jays head into Boston looking to do better than they did in Tampa, or at least as good as they did in the finale of this week’s three game set, with Chien-Ming Wang on the hill, and right-handers galore in the lineup to face Jon Lester.

The Sox lefty is coming off three straight starts in which he’s given up five or more earned runs while not making it to the sixth inning, and a seven start stretch over which he’s posted an ERA of 7.30. So… why the hell shouldn’t this keep working? Let’s chip away at that ridiculous record the shitbag Sox and their fuckface manager have built up so far, AM I FUCKING RIGHT, OR WHAT?

Do this!

And, shit, if they lose… it’s foggy at Fenway– and apparently good things happen after the Jays lose in the fog. Foggetabout!

Scuttlebutt

Mike Wilner tweets that John Gibbons says the club rushed Brett Lawrie back, “out of necessity,” earlier this year, but they won’t make the same mistake twice. He’ll stay in the minors until he’s healthy and his bat is ready, Gibbers says.

He’s started off well, as he’s got a single in tonight’s game in Dunedin. Also getting into the game for the D-Jays? According to a tweet from the club, Kyle Drabek.

Ian Harrison tweets out a reminder that tonight’s Jays game can be found broadcast on OMNI Television. You can thank Chien-Ming Wang for that.

Speaking of tonight’s starter, Shi Davidi tweets a link to his piece on the key to Wang’s career evolution.

Davidi reminds us that Adam Lind is 3-for-29 with 12 strikeouts in his career against Jon Lester, while Chris Toman notes that Colby Rasmus hasn’t been much better, which explains their absences from tonight’s linup.

  1. you can’t hit a five-run homer with no one on base: take a few fucking pitches for the team

  2. Why not use McGowan?

  3. JP Arencibia is a fucking joke, plain and simple.

  4. Someone get Melky a wheelchair, stat. His legs are going to fall off.

  5. Goggles is still a God.

  6. On the subway tonight I saw a new advert for Head + Shoulders that said by using their fine product one would “strike out less than _________ [insert struggling baseball player here.]” Thankfully I did not have a Sharpie with me or JPA would have been memorialized on the TTC.

  7. I know Jack Morris has pointed this out several times this season, but it truly is a shame that Bonifacio has never developed the ability to bunt. He’s pretty much a total fuckup at the plate, but his speed IS incredible. He’s probably the fastest guy on the team, if not one of the fastest in all of baseball – especially his acceleration out of the box. I seriously think if he was just an average bunter (especially when he’s batting lefthanded) he could probably average nearly a hit a game. I guess that would make him a .250ish hitter – not spectacular, but a whole hell of a lot better than what he’s been so far this season. In addition, the realistic threat of him bunting would put pressure on or force the hand of the opposition’s defensive alignment during various in-game situations It’s definitely frustrating that he’s not on-base more often to utilize his world-class speed. Of course, having an eye, plate discipline and taking walks are other skills he needs to work on, but goddamn, that fucking dude sure can run. Loviste!

    • makes total sense to me … instead of half-heartedly waving his bat about, he could become a disruptive force both at the plate and once he gets on … in a small ball way opponents could begin to dread facing him … he needs to learn to wait to hit ball before he runs when bunting …

      • I’m sure he can do it but for some reason the Jays can figure out that it would be a good thing for him to get on base. I know next to nothing but I DO know if they could just get him to stay still when he bunts he’d be more successful. For some reason the guy with all the speed thinks he needs a head start so he’s constantly trying to lay down a bunt while running to 1st.

  8. Fuck the Clevelands.

  9. Here comes the cock tease…..

  10. Why do we keep making Melky go out in the field when he is so obviously hampered by bad legs?

  11. I call bullshit. Cheats.

  12. Fuck! Just turned this game on. The Jays better not allow a score line like this one when I’m at Fenway on Sunday!

  13. Aww fuck Lesters not hurt. These weasels do this every time. You watch he’ll be there for the next start and Boston will get all the time in the world to warm up.
    FUCKING WEASELS!!!

    • Gah! My name associated with Boston is The Worst! They are horrid, to be sure…but as far as weasels are concerned – THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!

      • Sorri BW..I DO tend to get carried away…lemme see, well, I suppose
I could use the name rodents, especially given the looks of
        Dustin Pedroia.

    • Careful of your sacroiliac crest, Karl.

  14. Bonifantastico or Bonifiasco.

    Time will tell.

  15. Bonicrapio better not swing the bat here at all. If he does, he’ll kill the rally.

  16. Awesome! Hopefully Brandon Morrow’s starting to rub off on Lester a bit. Finger’s crossed that Lester’s out for at least 2 months – maybe the season if we’re lucky..

  17. This would be a nice time for Bautista to, like do something.

  18. God, Reyes is such a scrub. Can’t avoid making an out.

    (are these jokes old yet?)

    • not today … but might be tomorrow

      • It looks like the Jays will be 1-3 since his return. Kawasaki was singlehandedly responsible for that win streak, so send Reyes down to Buffalo for some more seasoning.

  19. What the fuck is wrong with jbats? All he hits is weak grounders.

  20. Parrot time

  21. So … Wang gets D to the F to muthafuckin’ Aed after the game?

    • He should be next in line when Morrow comes back.

      • Not to sound too negative, but between his health and consistency, it’s really becoming hard to count on Morrow for anything. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Morrow is either finished for the season or comes back for a couple starts, then decides to shut it down. The Jays have absolutely babied this guy, but it has not translated into any sustained durability or consistency.

Due to the fact that his contract is fairly reasonable and that he does have the potential to be great, I’m thinking Morrow could soon become interesting trade bait either later this season or in the off-season – maybe as part of a package or even alone – if Alex is presented with the right opportunity. Another thought is that maybe Morrow is better suited to going back to being a reliever, where he can simplify his approach and ambush batters for an inning at a time instead of having to pace himself and turn over the lineup multiple times. Also, with less of an innings load, maybe it’d be easier for Morrow to stay healthy.

Of course, the Johnson, Drabek, Hutchison, Romero. Rogers and Happ situations all have significant bearing on any potential trades and the shape that the staff will take for next season. Safe to say that AA has a lot of different options to consider moving forward. Having said all that, I hope Morrow proves me wrong and becomes a dependable starter or even an ace, but I have my doubts.

  22. Dirk be shit disturbing.

    Nice.

  23. Hmm… Jays are a bit unlucky not to have scored more here. At least the bats aren’t dormant, bodes well for the rest of the series.

    • They’re not exactly dominant either.

      • Trying to find silver linings here…

      • The bats were fine, not great but I think about what you can expect with Bautista slumping plus Lind and Rasmus having to sit out against a lefty. Still positves from the game, Bullpen was great and no one should be expecting much from Wang, this is one the best offenses in the League right now against a guy whose probably getting DFA’d when morrow get’s back, these things happen.

  24. Edwin has shit babip luck

  25. These Red Sox fucks are so fucking hateable! I hate their fucking faces and every single fucking thing about the team, the fans, the uniforms, etc. Fucking fucks can get fucked.

  26. What? Jays traded kawasaki to Red Sox and he’s a pitcher now?

  27. Fuck this shit!

  28. JP sucks.

  29. So let me understand this. We are down 7-4 with 2 outs in the bottom of 9th inning, the count on JPA is 2-0, so he swings at the next three pitches and strikes out? jesus fucking christ

    • Yep.

    • Did you expect anything else?

      • But minimal baseball intelligence tells you that a walk is as good as a home run in that situation, all that matters is getting on base, and you take at least a pitch, maybe two especially if you are incredible strikeout prone. Why didn’t Gibbons order him to take a pitch. I don’t know if I can take it any more…

    • JP vs Uehara? You just hope that Uehara tweaks something because that’s the only positive thing for the Jays coming out of that at-bat.

  30. turning points:

top of 1st; Reyes walks, 3-0 on JB, less aggressive approach should get a walk

bottom of 1st; Ortiz walks Ok Dokay; but more aggressive approach => double play

small differences => large outcomes …

    • more aggressive approach to Mike Carp after Ortiz

    • Turning point: The massive difference in talent between Wang and Lester.

      • I’ve heard people call Wang a talentless piece of shit over and over. For fucks sake the guy is insanely talented but he’s succumbing to age and injuries. There is a big difference. It’s similar to calling Halladay a talentless piece of shit because of his shitty numbers over the last two years. Show some respect to someone that has accomplished more in his life than you can ever even dream to. /rant

        • I don’t care about Wang the person. I only care about Wang the pitcher for the Blue Jays. I don’t care what he’s done in his career. He should be thrilled an MLB team gave him a shot to be a starter again.

He’s served his role with the Jays for a couple good starts but he has no future with this team and will be discarded soon.

  31. On to the next fuck those mass holes

  32. Alright so they got the worst pitching matchup of the series out of the way. Now, they have no excuse. The offense NEEDS to produce and have quality ABs the next 3 games. They arent facing dominant pitchers. Also, what the fuck is going on with bats? If he really hates hitting 2nd so much (I dont know why it would affect him), gibby should just hit him 3rd. He is a key bat and they cant afford him slumping for much longer as pretty much everyone in the 2nd half of the lineup is an easy out as it is. The top heavy part of the lineup has to be productive.

    • Was he terrible again today? I didn’t get to see a ton of the game but he seemed like he was coming around with Tampa, not much in the way of results but he was battling and hitting balls hard that weren’t foul by a lot (ofcourse I could be remembering that wrong).

    • delicate and dangerous pivot that … if ANY player is allowed to dictate place in order, not good hierarchy … the distance from team leader to team primadonna is not large and management does not want to lose that one if there is a chance to contend because these issues magnify as competition intensifies …

    • Gibby hasn’t had a fight with a player for some time now, so now’s a good time as any to put Joey in his place if he really is whinging about wanting to bat third.

  33. Alright, well that wasn’t pretty but a loss is a loss. Come out tomorrow and fuck these massholes.

  34. Melky to the DL, MUUUUNNNEENOORRIII back up.

  35. Melky to the DL was inevitable
