Toronto Blue Jays v Atlanta Braves

The Blue Jays can reach the coveted .500 mark with a win in Boston this afternoon… no, wait, yes it was last week when that was a thing. The local nine find themselves back in the familiar position of last place in the American League East, complete with a sub-.500 record. This season, man.

Negativity aside, today presents an excellent opportunity to get off to a nice little run of victories again. It’s just that, y’know, we’re gonna need some starting pitching to do so.

It’s Esmil Rogers day in Boston, while the Massholes counter with Felix Doubront.

Scuttlebutt

John Lott on Gibbons keeping Bautista locked in to the two-hole, despite his recent slump.

Nothing to worry about with Brett Lawrie missing from the lineup at A-Dunedin, as Griff informs us that he’s attending his sister’s wedding. Double fisting Red Bull and vodka FTW.

An MRI revealed tendinitis in Melky Cabrera’s left knee, nothing more as Shi Davidi notes.

Some terrible to pass along here news as former Blue Jay Justin Miller was found dead at the age of 35.

  1. O’day O’day!’

  2. Meow!!

  3. The Man from Muncie did the impossible.

    A TRIPLE?

  4. Hahahahaha. Linda? Triple? Kitten face you beauty!

  5. Wow!

  6. Lind is running better. He also beat out an infield hit today.

  7. I had more faith in DeRosa than Bonifacio. With that said, feeling fairly confident the bullpen will finish it, even if we’re throwing away a run here.

  8. Quelle surprise.

  9. Farrell-ball with Bonifacio bunting… uhhhh… please no.

  10. Boni pinch hitting?? Jesus

  11. BoniFellatio you suck. See what I did there?

  12. Jose Bautista is a baseball player

  13. THis is how you lose imminently winnable games….by not executing simple basic play.
Bonehead can’t lay down a bunt…and Lind can’t score from third on the following contact.
    Simple, simple, simple.
This is why Boston will make it close again…you can’t piss away runs with these guys.

    • You might be right if Delabar wasn’t a beast.

    • I think we’re okay winning-wise, but I do hate pissing away runs.

    • That Bonifiasco can’t bunt is unforgivable, both for himself but also for his coaches.

I’m not so agreeable on Lind’s inability to come home. The man just hit his first triple of the year, and no one would consider him a threat on the base paths. We laugh at Farrellball losing two runs today at home plate. Why would he tempt fate?

  14. I hate these Red Sox fuckwads so much.

  15. Salty’s hair is utterly cringeworthy

    • When I eyeballed that mop last night he skyrocketed to the top of my MLB player poll for ugliest dude.

      • Funny part is he probably gets mad trim for that flow.
        Chicks dig guys with flow.

        • I suppose that type of style would attract a certain type of trim. Whatever works, I guess. And it totally doesn’t matter except that I’m pretty upfront about how superficial I am + also it’s Boston so I’m always looking for extra awful things.

      • These guys look totally different cleaned up in street clothes, but anyway, what does it matter.

  16. I know its been beaten to death. Defibrillatored. And smothered into a coma again, but how the fuck does someone with Boni-boy’s speed not know how to fucking bunt?

    • he’s already running in his mind before he makes contact and thus the contact is “off”

  17. “That should be a double” – Buck

    Are you fucking serious?

  18. Jose!!

  19. Jose!!

  20. Atta boy Reyes

  21. Jose, we love you, man.

  22. Yeah! Now slam the fucking door on these assholes.

  23. O’Day O’Day O’Day O’Day

    O’Day O’Day

  24. Uhh Bautista on the bases has been “interesting” thsi year. But whatever, he’s awesome and the run still scored.

  25. joses, joses joses joses. joses. joses.

  26. Love that first to home speed.

  27. Yeah so if they could just stop walking people, that’d be great.

    • Ummm, I’m gonna need you to go ahead come in tomorrow. So if you could be here around 9 that would be great, mmmk… oh oh! and I almost forgot ahh, I’m also gonna need you to go ahead and come in on Sunday too, kay. We ahh lost some people this week and ah, we sorta need to play catch up.

  28. UNSWEEPABLE

  29. Solid game boys

  30. Woo!!

Buck and Tabby are right, huge game by the real leader of this team.

  31. I love having two hot Jose’s going

  32. All right! Great job, guys. Let’s get the split tomorrow.

  33. Nice. Win tomorrow and I’m not unhappy with 6-4 against the East here.

  34. Suck it Farrell!

  35. Club can’t handle me right now – what Swagner says to every opposing team

  36. THIS is the team we expected and more … who would have thought we could even try a suicide squeeze with Adam the swift and terrible?

  37. I absolutely love the high blue socks on Jose. you can bet he will be wearing those tomorrow after this afternoon’s game.

  38. Jose had the high socks going today, not sure if anyone posted that.

I wonder if that;s the first time he’s done that to bust a slump. He looked weird at first, the high socks made him look very thin, like an optical illusion. Goes to show how dumb it is to all these idiots claim he’s on PED’s when it’s pretty clear the guy is probably 190 lb tops.

    • Also we’ve all seen him naked – don’t forget. Certainly didn’t look bulked up with PEDs. A little manscaping however…

      • haha ah yes, was that GQ? he’s got big thighs and ass though, probably where all his power comes from, Dominican booty

  39. wow having reyes back makes a huge difference. instead of kawasaki or boni…you have reyes up. now all we have to do is get JPA and derosa/bonicrapio out of the lineup and well have a formidable lineup

although JPA might have won the game for us today with his defense.

  40. I loathe Boston, this is sweet, zesty awesomeness.

    • You should give Les Hoar a call for old time’s sake.

    • One of the things I hate about Boston is their priority treatment. Not until I went to the Boston marathon did I realize that Boston is scheduled for a home day game every single year on patriots day. Every year. How do you think it would go if we wanted a home game every year on Canada day? We got it this year, but it’s not a given. Boston is special.

      • Jays have had 23 Canada Day games at home (9-14 record) and 11 on the road (2-9) so that’s over 2/3 they’ve hosted at home.

Regardless of where they have it, they’ve got to improve on that lousy Canada Day record of 11-23.

  41. And lets not forget about what a solid start Rogers had against a tough offense.

we thought after last start his pumpkin might have burst..well if that start is a “blow up” start for Rogers, Ill fucking take it. The guy has been money every start save one..and face it., 6 ip and 4 er is not bad at all for your “worst start”

Some around here liken him to henderson alvarez, but he actually is much more than that. he actually strikes people out, and has been doing MORE of it as a starter.

if you look at start by start his overall strikeout numbers are reduced by ONE really low strike out game

    ATL: 3 IP 4 k
    Texas: 4 IP 6 K
Texas: 7 IP ONE K (outlier)
    Colorado: 6 IP 5 k
    TB: 6 IP 2 K
    Boston: 6 IP 6 K

I can guarantee you that Alvarez never had a string of starts where he had these types of k numbers.

No saying he is a strikeout pitcher, just saying he strikes out enough guys that it makes me think his performance might be sustainable.

  42. Once Lawrie gets back, this team is primed for another roll. Think about how many outs the Jays lost/created b/c of no Lawrie:

-put Lawrie after Rajai in today’s game, good chance he hits a hard liner to the OF or a chopper that scores him from 3rd

-Lawrie catches that ball Izzy missed last night and Jays potentially win that game

-it pushes JPAnus and Bonifeces even further down the lineup, making for fewer unproductive outs in general

Once RedBull’s back, watch out, Birds gonna fly sky high!

  43. I love jose. I don’t like it when anyone says anything negative about him, he’s the one guy that deserves irrational love even when struggling.

  44. Yankees down 4-0 in first

  45. And way to go Rogers, and surprisingly JP’s defence!

    • This…for all of his previous shittiness, JPA saved three runs today (two stellar blockings of home plate, plus the hustle play on Rasmus’ shitty throw in the 7th (?). It also seems that he doing a better job (or at least attempting to) of framing close pitches.

If these improvements in defence can continue on a sustainable basis (#wishfulthinking), I would be more likely to let most of his offensive shortcomings go.

  46. Jays 40 wins
    Tampa 41
    NYY 42

    Slowly but surely

  47. If Indians don’t add some more pitching, Jays should be able to pass Yanks, Rays and Indians before or shortly after All Star Game. Gonna be another mid season swoon for the Tribe I feel.

  48. Funny how the Jays and Nationals, maybe the two teams with the most hype coming into the season, are both .500 nearing the half way point.

  49. Baltimore up 9-0 against the Skanks.

    3rd inning.

  50. Honestly, the Yankees could lose 900-0. Every day. And it still wouldn’t be enough. There is no pit deep or dark enough.

    • Sox are worse.

      • Too true.

I have something approaching a begrudging semi-respect for the Yankees, but absolutely nothing but total distain for the Massholes.

        • When I played Lance Parrish had a locker beside Willie Hernandez. Parrish was a slob. We’ve already discussed his taco eating binges. He loved to get to the park early and eat at his locker which of course always led to a mess and Willie yelling “Who maked distain in my locker. I will keel the sonomabatch who made distain!” Good times.

    • When I played no team ever lost 900-0. I don’t think the Yankees will ever lose that bad unless they play Licking Heights.

  51. Goodbye, New York. Theyre destined to tank

  52. They sodomized Napoli today.

  53. Prayers to Justin Miller’s family. Geez, I can’t believe I’m the only one here that mentioned anything about it…

    • It’s shitty.

      congrats for noticing first.

      • Geez.
It was mentioned in the above article and talked about a few times in yesterdays comment section. Did more did you want? Geez.
I’m sure the family of miller was on the djf website yesterday and it made their day that much worse when they didn’t see anyone on here discussing his death until you brought it up.
Thank you for saving the day.
        Geez.

  54. Wilner told me on twitter today that there are no players on the Jays that suck.
    hayhurst weighed in and agreed.

Have these 2 guys been watching the games?
I then tried to get them to tell me who the worst player is on the Jays but I knew they wouldn’t go there.

  55. Was at the game this afternoon First time seeing the Jays away from home and wow, great game but came away more impressed with the Boston crowd. Organic Red Sox cheers, no scoreboard leading the cheering, one failed wave attempt it appeared in the outfield. Just a very knowledgable crowd. I was completely expecting more Massholes. Kudos to them.

  56. I ran into Josh Johnson tonight, he laid out his requests that he had sent to Alex Anthopolous that need to be met in order for him to re-sign in Toronto:

    - His own private plane with 3 Stewardesses.
    - Wi-Fi in his hat.
    - Limo at tarmac.
    - Stunt double.
    - Personal chef.
    - Stylist.
    - Trained eagle.
    - Sleeping quarters in his hotel rooms to have blankets made from any mammal in the top ten extinct list. (worldwide, not national)
    - M and M’s (No brown ones)
    - Planted friends who all bend over laughing at his jokes, ask him to repeat stories, ask how he manages to walk without tipping forward etc.
    - Bathroom quarters to have a bidet that squirts Orange Crush
    - Toilet paper to be substituted with pheasant wings
    - Players have to make J’s with both hands after doing something special, no more “Lo Vista”
    - After he throws a strikeout and the team throw the ball around, the third basemen has to walk the ball to the mound, kneel, put head down, raise baseball to Josh. (no eye contact allowed.)

    • It’s cognizant of J.J. to recognize that any actual money is absolutely out of the question.
The Dutch got Manhattan Island for $24 worth of trinkets, albeit in 1626.

Did you get the feeling that he might settle for Alex Rios’ remote controlled miniature helicopter?

    • When I signed with the Jays my contract demands were simple:

      - assload of money
      - hunting license for Canadian geese
      - Jack Morris Fan Club to have locations in all 14 Canadian provinces
      - do not put my locker beside Rance Mullinicks – he really creeped me out
      - 12 pairs of stone washed jeans
      - Thighmaster
      - All episodes of Blossom on VHS tape

  57. @smasher.
Quite the list. I’m impressed that you could get all that down before he walked away. I hope you run into Ricky romero sometime. I’m curious what his list would include.

  58. Note to my disciples: Drinking large quantities of rum while fishing out of a canoe shall from this point forward be considered fucking stupid. Also, Coleman coolers don’t fucking float! Go Jays!
