Toronto Blue Jays v New York Yankees

This won’t be much of a game threat, because holiday and stuff. Happy Canada Day to all. Flags on hats.

Anyway, Mark DeRosa will occupy the cleanup spot today, and R.A. Dickey is making his first start since tuning the Rays last week. Adam Lind is out of the lineup due to back pain, which he hopes to avoid hitting the DL with.

Today is a landmark day in Blue Jays television history as the game will be shown on theScore Television Network Sportsnet 360. It’s Rogers’ new channel, which used to be theScore, but will just look like the rest of the Sportsnet channels, but promises to be cooler.

  1. Tomorrw; WHO WILL PREVAIL IN THE WANG FISTER BATTLE

  2. My word, Reyes hasn’t missed a beat. Awesome.

Also very impressed with Davis this year.

  3. I don’t like facing Fister, Scherzer, Verlander without Lind and Edwin.

    • Edwin was a late scratch. Maybe he’ll be ok tomorrow. And Lind isnt bad enough for the DL…at least i hope he isnt.

      • It’s funny how quickly opinion can change on a player when they do what we at DJF have been telling them to do. Take note JPA.

        • Are you taking it upon yourself to pump JP’s tires, Tom W.?

karen may well favour you for said presumption, although it seems the very essence of a forlorn hope.
          Keep us appraised.

          Spud

  4. O’Day O’Day O’Day O’Day

    O’Day O’Day

    Repeat as required;
3X seems to do the trick.

  5. Not the greatest start for the after game show on Sportsnet 360. Wow.

  6. So the Blue Jays Express show went off the air during a live feed on a street at 3:46 p.m.

The guy with grey hair wants Bautista as a Number 3 hitter. They speak too quickly & use many sports cliches.

  7. Hes just mad he has to pay for the hospital visits every time he gets his ass knocked the fuck out for bein sucha lil prick.

    • Oh and just angry at the WORLD because he had the unfortunate luck of being born in fucking BALTIMORE.

Man, csnt believe Orioles fans’ assholes still hurt from the assfucking the Jays gave em last time.

    • Yup.

Appears their assholes still hurt – you from Camden Chat or Orioles Hangout?

    • The around $600 more a year in income tax is worth it not to live in baltimore

      • There are holes in his arguments to match the bullet holes he presumably acquired trying to type all that out.

Also, the O’Day chant thing will never stop being funny. Regardless of whether or not the Jays make the playoffs, our fan base isn’t compose of drooling homonoid retards riddled with 9mm-sized holes who ACTUALLY BELIEVE people shouted “O’Day.”

        • I strongly suspected Baltimore’s nickname “Charm City” must be ironic until they picked up Eric Thames the other day.

          That’s the essence of charming.

    • Dude have you checked lately?
      Obamacare is a law.
      Must’ve slipped by you.

  8. Don’t forget coming back to the studio with a different screen…..almost like a computer on Safe Mode and more importantly NO AUDIO which continued onto the beginning of Gibbers press conference. The channel then immediately cut out of this and proceeded to show Stephen Brunt’s Baseball in Canada doc that was shown before the game began

    • Boy I tell you what. It’s nice to see Kenny Loggins hosting Blue Jays Express.

    • @jesse.

Yes. I thought there was an accident with the guy doing the man in the street interview.

That’s a dangerous move to interview fans on the street after a loss & some have had alcoholic beverages.

They have to get their technical kinks worked out & the short guy who is a host needs stool to stand on.

    • Fairly sure they just pulled the plug when the screen went black 10 minutes in.

      Back to the drawing board.

  9. WHAT? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

  10. you know what sucks more, getting swept by the last place team who is 17-25 vs the division, that’s your Orioles bud….maybe that’s why your butt just hurts so god damn much

  11. Last time I was in Baltimore I came home with an STI.

    Also, we just swept you.

Love & Lust – STI guy.

  12. ThLOLe blowing that stop sign is priceless

  13. Boy I tell you what when I played.

  14. When I played boy i tell you what.

  15. What a win today fuck ya woooooooooooh

  16. Loved the little nod Mig gave Dickey after striking out. Wonder how many people Mig actually respects in this game, considering he’s on a whole other terrestrial plane, he must find many of the other major leaguers boring or lesser beings.

  17. Dickey’s next scheduled start is against the Twins. No reason to think he doesn’t win that game and continue to drop his ERA. He could be in double digit wins by the All Star break. I don’t know who he faces the rest of the season, but I can absolutely see him go on a tear, rail off 10 straight quality starts and end up with something like a 17-10 record. WHIP of 1.3 and an ERA of 3.75 in his first foray in the AL East. I’ll take it.

  18. Watched this on PVR this afternoon. I was unable to drag my corpse to the TV from where I left it last night when i finished filling it with hooch and empty calories.

    Big dubbya.

Wish I could have shared it with you folks.

Now, what’s the proper way to incapacitate a zombie corpse? The drooling mess keeps flailing it’s arms at me. I threw a bottle of tums and a few Ibuprofen at it but it keeps moaning.

    See you kids tomorrow.

    • Smasher:

If it’s the face in the mirror that once again gives you pause, here is the poet/author Robert Graves’ take on that particular problem.

THE FACE IN THE MIRROR by Robert Graves (1957)

      Gray haunted eyes, absent-mindedly glaring
From wide, uneven orbits; one brow drooping
      Somewhat over the eye
Because of a missile fragment still inhering,
Skin deep, as a foolish record of old-world fighting.

      Crookedly broken nose–low tackling caused it;
      Cheeks, furrowed; coarse gray hair, flying frenetic;
      Forehead, wrinkled and high;
      Jowls, prominent; ears, large; jaw, pugilistic;
Teeth, few; lips, full and ruddy; mouth, ascetic.

I pause with razor poised, scowling derision
At the mirrored man whose beard needs my attention,
And once more ask him why
He stands ready, with a boy’s presumption,
To court the Queen in her high silk pavilion.

What’s more, in what must surely be one of the earliest videos, here is the man himself reciting said piece.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcJXrfwUiS4

      • Well that poem personifies my inanimate ass.

Can relate to the delusion “He stands ready, with a boy’s presumption,
To court the Queen in her high silk pavilion.”

Are they still delusions if you enjoy them?

  19. Good win. The next 3 starting pitchers they are facing are TOUGH. Hope ee and lind can get back to the lineup asap. Going to the game tomorrow for the epic wang vs. fister battle.

  20. With Kawasaki starting today despite a lefty on the mound, I think we can safely state that the bonifacio experiment as a starter is over.

  21. Tried watching the game on the new channel.
There’s too much shit happening on the bottom of the screen that distracts from the OTHER shit that’s at the bottom of the usual Sportsnet screen to make the game watchable.
Thanks…I’ll still to the regular channel.

But hey….great game by a shorthanded squad. Hopefully Lind and EE aren’t gone for long.

    • Could that new channel BE any more annoying? All the garbage at the bottom of the screen is not necessary. Now if you will excuse me I have to go piss on Monica. What? No she did not get stung by a jelly fish again.

  22. Just left the Bisons game in Barfalo against Charlotte and Gose made an unbelievable elite diving catch on his backhand, running full tilt parrellel to the ground, a ball Rasmus would just wave at. Negrych played 3B tonite.hmmmm?
Anyway, back to a debate that has been here before and most of you know I am not a Rasmus fan so I admit my jaundice up front.
But…given that Gose is better defensively i believe, is Faster, and has a more accurate and stronger arm and strikes out at the same rate as Rasmus, more or less is it time to bid adieu to Colby assumimng we can move him somewhere?
I’m under the impression ( don’t know where I got it) that one of the other will be moved before year end anyway so why not now?
Gose is controllable for 6 years and makes COB. Rasmus has his last arb year comin up and fuk, may run a 8m tab to hit .235 with power which is about the only thing Gose does not have much of really.
I admit Gose has to improve with the bat and I think he will so it w/b a bit of a risk but, hell, if we could package Rasmus and get a MLB 2B , it might be worth the shot, because I think Colby may be non tendered at EOY anyway
    Thoughts?

    • Why are people so eager to move Rasmus? He’s been one of the best Jays this season.

      Gose has a wRC+ of 75 in AAA. I don’t even…

    • definitely I see one of them being shipped out before EOY unless Melky C. experiment does not work out.

    • Dear fukstik–
(with apologies to you know Who)

You think you and Tony look pretty good together
You think your shoes are made of leather

But he’s a substitute for another guy
He looks pretty tall but his heels are high
The simple things you see are all complicated
He look pretty young, but he’s just back-dated, yeah

And now you dare to look me in the eye
Those crocodile tears are what you cry
      It’s a genuine problem, you won’t try
To work it out at all you just pass it by, pass it by

      Substitute Cletus for him
      Substitute my coke for gin
      Substitute you for my mum
At least I’ll get my washing done

      Yours truly, Spud

      • I’m working on my 2nd bottle ogf Merlot and while I appreciate a reference to the democratic underground I would prefer, at the moment, a rousing rendition of subterranean homesick blues substituting Ed Snowden, whom the Yank government love. To wit, and we must apologize to Mr Bob Zimmerman aka Bobby Dylan
        Snowden’s in the basement
        Surfing on the Internet
        I’m on the pavement
        Thinking about the gubmint
The spook in the trench coat
        Kicked out, laid off
Says he’s got a bad cough
        Wants his mortgage paid off
        Ya better look out kid
        It was somethin you did
        God knows when
        But they’ll Google you again
You better duck down the alley way
        Lookin’ for a new friend
A man in a coolie cap
        In a pawn pen
        Wants eleven eleven dollar bills
        you only got ten.

The again. we could sing together”out here in the field”I fucked for my meals or sommin like that

        • I can only guess that’s what you call ‘tit for tat.’

Just to be clear, you get the ‘tat.’
Have a whole sleeve for all I care.
Consider “Sooner Or Later, One Of Us Must Know.”
Possibly “I Threw It All Away.”

        • Takes me back Fukstik

    • I would not be upset if Gose never played another game as a Blue Jay.

Just another example of prospect eye candy that comes up a bit short.

  23. Really hope to get 2 out of 3 of the remaining games of the series

    • Don’t be beige, frankie.

A real live, stubborn bulldog would insist on biting off all 3 remaining games.
      Dream large.
      Really.

    • I have a thing for sweeps at this stage of the season. Set the bar higher.

      • 4 plus 1 (because of annihilation and general humiliation.)
        Think outside the box.

        You’re a true pirate, Tom W.

Most days are like all of the others,
Go to work, come back home, watch TV,
But, brother, if I had me druthers,
I’d chuck it and head out to sea,

For I dream of the skull and the crossbones,
I dream of the great day to come,
When I dump the mundane for the Old Spanish Main
And trade me computer for rum! ARRR!

        T’ me,
        Yo, Ho, Yo, Ho,
It’s “Talk Like A Pirate” Day!
When laptops are benches God gave us fer wenches,
And a sail ain’t a low price ta pay!
When timbers are shivered and lillies are livered
And every last buckle is swashed,
We’ll abandon our cars for a shipfull of ARRRs
And pound back the grog till we’re sloshed!

        • Spuds, continuing along, I think of this portion of the Dylan epic every time I see the tax collectors on the 401 with another car or truck:
          Greenie comes fleet foot
          Face full of black soot
          Talkin’ that the heat put
          Plants in his bed but
          The phone’s tapped anyway
          Guardian says that many say
They wanna break it late May
Orders from the NSA are in
          You better look out kid
Don’t matter what you say they did
          You gonna get hit
You walkin on your tip toes
          Don’t try, ‘No Doz’
          Stay away from the
suckers with the fiber optic fire hose
          Keep a clean nose
          Watch the plain clothes
You don’t need a weather man
To know which way the wind blows

Sure hope the fuck they leave BB alone. Now that I know the NSA is even snooping here FFS

          • FFS fukstik, Eddie Cochrane had it figured out back in 1958, and our friends The Who reprised it on “Live At Leeds.”

I’m gonna raise a fuss, I’m gonna raise a holler
About a workin’ all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby, and try to get a date
My boss says, “No dice son, you gotta work late”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues

Well my mom and pop told me, “Son you gotta make some money,
If you want to use the car to go ridin’ next Sunday”
Well I didn’t go to work, told the boss I was sick
“Well you can’t use the car ’cause you didn’t work a lick”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues

I’m gonna take two weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
I’m gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well I called my congressman and he said quote:
“I’d like to help you son but you’re too young to vote”
Sometimes I wonder what I’m a gonna do
But there ain’t no cure for the summertime blues

            • got to admit it , Spud, you are one erudite potato.
Wish I’d gone to university with you, think we could have reinvented the wheel, or maybe had a rock group called “the rolling stoned”
Now, my deep thinking( it is deep to me when I think), is done mostly by imbibing in my Merlot.
I have often been searching “out in the fields” hence I love the Who and also when they issued the classic verbiage in the song “Won’t get fooled again” of “meet the new boss, same as the old boss”, I realized how we people really are mostly just “tax donkeys” to the gov types. One of the reasons I retired well before I could truly afford it but Fuk it I can afford my wine.
Just don’t turn a whiter shade of pale my friend. Go Jays

              • This is what 1970′s ‘Who’ would have said (and emphatically did)

Young Man Blues (Live At Leeds/1970)
                (Mose Allison)

Oh well a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days
I said a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days

You know in the old days
When a young man was a strong man
All the people they’d step back
When a young man walked by

                But you know nowadays
                It’s the old man,
                He’s got all the money
And a young man ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days
                I said nothing

Everybody knows that a young man ain’t got nothin’
                Everybody!
Everybody knows that a young man ain’t got nothin’
                He got nothin’
                Nothin’

Take it easy on the young man
They ain’t got nothin’ in the world these days
I said they ain’t got nothin’!
                They got sweet fuck-all!

                • +1 babe. Just wish i had the opportunity to fuk the man just once.
You do know, don’t you spuds, of the name of the song that the stones produced for Decca records to fulfill their contract when the bigwhigs insisted ( under threat of a lawsuit) on one more song so they could make even more off of the stones?

                  • ‘Love In Vain’ if I’m not mistaken.
I forget what it was backed by, but who cares.

                    • Ok , let you in on a little secret. The only overt homosexual song ever done by the stones
it was called “Cocksucker Blues” in 1970. At the time it could only be heard on avant garde FM and drug dens etc as Decca refused to release it but alas they had their fucking CS song. Brian Jones thought it was hilarious, apparently

                    • It’s on 2003′s “Acoustic Motherfuckers”

                      Meh.

                    • My forte is actually cheezy 80′s bands like swing out sister

  24. Ya’ll are wrong about both Gose and Ramsus. The CF of the near term future of this team is Pillar. He is one of the classic players that goes under appreciated because he doesnt fill a bunch of boxes scouts like to check off. He isnt superlative at anything..well..one thing…he consistently puts the barrell of the bat on the ball..has done it ever since his college years and has not ever sniffed struggle in the pros. the fucker was in low A Lansing last year and he’s now hitting 395 in AAA!.

    http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130630&content_id=52330704&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_milb

    • Luis, fukstik & I, as is our wont, have moved on to 60′s-70′s rock, and the social implications thereof, which shouldn’t be much of a stretch for someone rocking your particular username one wouldn’t think.

    • Nice article.
I started hearing about him last year with the cry of #freepillar.
The story of his drafting, is familiar.I talked to a few guys who’ve gone through the process. It can get very political behind the scenes.32nd round is “courtesy pick” territory.
Let him finish the year in AAA and eventually force the Jays hands.
I’ll be watching.Gotta love the underdog attitude.I get sick of the entitlement aspect of some players.

    • What worries me about him is he’s 24 years old already. If he was 20 I’d be jacked.

      • jack this

      • His age is not as much of a concern for me because of the fact he hasn’t had to repeat any level to succeed there. His later start was not as a result of some deficiency, it was as a result of simply not being drafted or else he would be at least a year ahead of where he is now. Look at guys like Kevin Ahrnes and Justin Jackson…high picks with all the “tangibles” tools….given every chance to succeed to the point of it being stupid. Now Jackson is a pitcher and Ahrens must just really love baseball because he will never make the show.

Then you have guys like Pillar. Undervalued guys who can just play the game. There is nothing in his numerical data that tells me he wont be a serviceable big leaguer.

You worry about people being old for their level when they have to repeat to succeed at low levels. thats just not the case here. it also seems like he is developing more power as he goes along. You usually see some hiccoughs as a prospect advances. With him..nothing. Its weird almost. Perhaps he is one of those guys that just fell through the cracks.

        • Noticed him a while back when someone else pointed out he was headed to AAA. Thanks for the heads up. I love the cinderella stories. It also points out what a crapshoot picking prospects is.

  25. I personally don’t see it as Rasmus OR Gose or neither. I can envision a Jays outfield with both.

For one, Melky is now Eric Thames in the OF. He’s making 8 million and only one more year left. Hmm, sounds exactly like someone else . . . Lind. Now, who would I rather have be my DH . . . personally, I take Melk 9 times out of 10. A guy who can play some D in the field and also has/had moderate speed and a better history of hitting for contact would be fine.

There just aren’t that many good pure DH’s right now, so I’m fine splitting DH among two capable hitters who also can play a less than premium position, which is why I could forsee EE and Melk split DH down the road.

Other than his cannon of an arm, no reason to think Bau couldn’t become a future 1b as his range declines. Rasmus could move to LF and Gose could man CF. Pillar could even do RF if you wanted to get into the crazy talk of putting Bau back at 3b and moving Lawrie to 2b, which I personally think would be stupid and not gonna happen.

Regardless, I think it’s possible to have a 4 man outfield of the future consisting of Bautista and both Gose/Rasmus plus a 4th – be it Melk, Rajai or even Pillar. It sure as hell won’t be Boni anymore. Rajai is now perfect trade bait and he’s playing in a contract year and performing as expected in a contract year, so Jays might prefer Gose who would be making a fraction of what Rajai could expect to get on the open market.

So yea, I haven’t really written off any of those guys as factoring into the future of the Jays. Personally I want to see Gose stay a Jay. I am optimistically intrigued by Pillar. And I enjoy Rasmus for what he is. So keeping all 3 at the moment seems fine. But at some point a decision will have to be made about dumping Bonifacio/trading Rajai or not re-signing him in offseason, and then the same for Melk next yr.

Only thing this means is probably no future for Sierra.

    • I want to see if Gose can get on base and I worry, when they need to publicly discipline him.
I don’t get why everybody is in a rush to put Jbau at first base.

    • Rajai gives you a chance to win this year. Gose does not.

Trade Gose now while he still has a speckle of value left. I fear he is on the verge of fizzling.

Is Melky’s body breakdown consistent with someone using the juice? If so, his story may continue to reread itself over the next season and a half.

  26. oh my, poor old Rosie has really lost it….this may be the most unreadable piece of tripe that we’ve seen out of her in a good while….

  28. Something that has always amazed me is the inconsistency inherent to hitting a baseball. Sure there are stretches where you seem to be “hot” but it might just be bloopers falling in or liners not hit right at someone, but it really seems that players go on these constant alternating stretches of “seeing the ball” and not seeing the ball. I just dont get it. What is it about us that makes it so that we just see things better one day than the other? this crap doesnt happen to this degree in any other sport.

look at jose today. all of a sudden hes keeping his weight back. hes spitting on bad pitches. he’s cranking when he gets his pitch

a mere few days ago he looked like alf swinging an oar with his eyes closed at a pinata

same man. same eyes. same season..same week.

    wtf.

    baseball is just fucking maddening

  29. alternatively look at colby. one month he is hitting liners left and right. turning on inside half fastballs and depositing them into the right field bleachers.

the next month he is swinging at balls a foot outside, a foot in front of the plate, or at his back foot.

same dude. same ability. vastly different appearance in his outcomes.

    dont get it

    • I will never forget that swinging third strike against Baltimore (i think), when the ball bounced 3 feet in front of the plate and rasmus took a hack at it.

    • You made me smile LL.
People have spent their whole lives trying to figure it out.
      Baseball is life.
It’s imperfect. So simple to understand the basics yet the more you understand, the more complicated it gets.
We use stats that are available, to take the emotion out of the decisions yet some things defy the analysis.
You can have a superstar team and underperform or have a team that outperforms it’s Pythag wins and make the playoffs.
Field the same ball 10,000 times and flub it on the 10,001 time.
How can a pitcher who throws 88 mph be better than a guy who throws 102?
Sometimes it’s unfair, sometimes not.The breaks can go you way or not.
Somedays you perform and the ball looks like a beachball, sometimes like a pea.
Baseball can be frustrating and inexplicable and cruel and beautiful.
      Baseball is life.

  30. then you got guys like chris davis..

sucks his entire mlb career. some power..but thats it.

then all of of a sudden he becomes babe fucking ruth

  31. Pillar is the exact same player as Dan Gladden. Should be a useful fourth outfielder.

  32. Funny things about Kevin Pillar…..if he had the exact same career up until now – with the only difference being that he was drafted in the 1st round – then hed prob be a top 50 prospect.

    • His hitting numbers are really something, aren’t they. Doesn’t miss a beat when he moves up levels. Seems to be developing 10-15 home run power too

  33. If you look at jpa’s career stats, both minor and major, we really shouldn’t be surprised we are here. In the minors, he a career .275 hitter. He always hit for low average.

  34. Anyone hear Joey Vendetta on The Fan this morning say that the name Chien Ming Wang makes him think of ordering takeout?????

    Yeesh…..

  35. Is there any more usesless bunch of stiffs that is the dunedin positional player prospects? Is there even one guy on that roster that even has a chance to one day maybe become a september call up?

  36. O’s just traded for Feldman. His 6.11 career ERA against the Jays is going to very fun to see in the upcoming months!!!

  37. The standard color is aluminum that give it a contemporary feel. When it comes to price, there is very little competition between ASUS and Alienware.
