clevelandhistory

The Jays will take on the Clevelands tonight in Cleveland… maybe… eventually… I think. There is rain in the area, and so the tarp was on the field at the scheduled game time. No idea how long the delay will last (hearing 7:45 PM ET is the new expected start time, for now), but once it’s over, Josh Johnson takes on Ubaldo Jimenez in the best pitching matchup of 2010.

That year tonight’s two hurlers combined, according to FanGraphs, were worth 12.6 WAR. So far this year they’ve been worth 1.1. So… y’know… it can only get better from here, right? At least for Johnson, let’s hope.

Scuttlebutt

Richard Griffin tweets that there has been a change in the Jays’ rotation order, as R.A. Dickey, who has struggled against the Orioles, is being moved to Thursday in Cleveland, while Mark Buehrle will start in Baltimore on Friday.

John Lott tweets that Brett Lawrie says he has “no idea” of his anticipated return date.

According to another Lott tweet, John Gibbons says that Melky Cabrera may start a rehab assignment this week, but that either way he won’t be back until after the All-Star break.

Ben Nicholson-Smith lays this tidbit on us: of the 93 Major Leaguers with ten or more home runs this year, only one has walked more than he’s struck out: Edwin Encarnacion.

As noted in an earlier post, Ramon Hernandez has been released by the club after a short stint in Buffalo. MLBTR tweeted as much as well.

    Skip to 16 minute mark – 5 o’clock hour
Greg Zaun on JPA and douchebaggery.
    Must listen..

  2. Is game going to be played? ETA? Flash flood and your 2013 Blue Jays are swept away? Help a fella out.

  3. Aaaarrrgggghhhh! I’ve been so busy I haven’t been able to follow a game for a week and this when I do it is rained upon!

  4. It’s going to happen! Until then we can enjoy the Rangers game. It’s a win-win. Unless a storm in Toronto kicks my ass.

  5. Is it just me, or is the current Cleveland logo actually more offensive then the early 1900′s ones?

    Nice one Cleveland.

  6. Matt Devlin, now there’s a nice surprise

  7. Now back to our regularly scheduled baseball [though the peek of Kinsler was supernice]. But alas – where is Sir Buck? Too cool for Cleveland?

  8. come on Maice . . . fucking gift wrap triple

  9. Anybody else and that was a triple Izzy

  10. JPA walked! Well i’ll be dipped in shit

  11. It’s just me or after the dustup with Dirk and Zauny ,J.P has waked quite a few times ?

  12. Izzy, that is the slowest trot in the history of the world. I was thinking that a few guys on this team might try for an inside the park homer, and you end up at second.

Also, how did the scorers actually give you a double on that? Huge error in my opinion.

Lastly, I have seen improvements in JPA’s plate awareness over the past few days. I’m very encouraged. Anyone else?

  13. How much more rope this is sack of shit gonna get? seriously, cannot fathom any logic to him starting a game

  14. 41 pitches already. Like the approach today.

  15. Why is this piece of shit starting at 2B again vs a righty?

  16. Bonnie never fails….. to disappoint me.

    • That guy kills us. He’s gotta be better than this. He’s striking out at a Rob Deer like pace

  17. I will seriously take Jack Morris today batting rather than Boni.
I’m not kidding. I’ll take Mookie Wilson and Rob Deere RIGHT NOW over Boni! Sign them!

  18. Anybody knows if the club has any option on Bonnerface?Probably a month in Buffalo would set him straight.

    • No option, that’s why our Japanese friend was sent down instead of this win vampire.

  19. buffalo cant fix Boni – he has always been a terrible hitter – one outlier year inflated his stats to give us the impression he was better than he is

  20. Good news on ESPN.Cespedes is going to be the 4-th guy in HRD.So Bautista and his swing going to be ok for the second half push.

    • then package the fucker with couple of bats for some rosin bags.

      • That was for Dildo Baggins of Teabag End

        • Too bad Boni wasn’t a rosin bag, could get AJ Burnett to slap him a couple times and POOF he just floats off into the wind, problem solved!

      • What bats do the Jays have to spare? They have limited to no depth throughout the organization in terms of position players.

  21. 2nd gift of the game there – not sure wtf Reynolds was thinking

  22. Welcome back to the land of below replacement level playing, Adam

  23. Lind turning back to a pumpkin

  24. The Man from Muncie has sprung a leak.
All the King’s horses and all the King’s men can’t pump his tires fast enough it seems.

  25. Lind is starting to look like the guy from the last 3 yrs. hes swinging at a LOT of bad pitches. Wonder how long of leash gibby will give him in the cleanup spot. Might be time to put ee or raz there shortly.

    • I still like Davis in the 2-spot, Bautista and EE 3-4, especially with Reyes struggling a bit right now you still have the possibility of speed on the bases for those two to drive in.

    • Yeah. He sounded pretty good in those interviews; “knowing” what pitchers were trying to do to him and figuring out what pitches to lay off etc etc etc. But in the last 10 games he’s stopped walking and started swinging at high fastballs. There’s probably a high fastball gene in his DNA.

      • Nah I don’t think it’s in the genes, maybe it is some sort of viral-bacterial-airborne-infectious-type-pathogen since it’s affecting the Man from Muncie too.

  26. J.J is pitching inside tonight.Good sign.

  27. me and my friend agree, chief wahoo is the best logo in baseball

  28. I love rajai vs lefties but just cant stand him vs righties. He cant hit them at all.

  29. I <3 Colby…

  30. Wow aaroncibia swings at 2 pitches way out of zone then looks at strike 3

    • Easy now. Two called strikes on balls off the plate. Including the third one.

He had a couple reaches but is definitely looking better the last couple weeks.

Seems like he’s really trying to be more selective. Hopefully he gets some results from it and it sticks for him.

  31. The bottom of the lineup just continues to show their incompetence.

  32. Fuck JPA, anything out of the infield.

  33. Arencibia deserves to die of gonnorhea and rot in hell

  34. I fucking hate Arencibia with all of my being

  35. Are there two more WORTHLESS PIECES OF SHIT other than JPA and Bonie??
    I swear….what a waste of fucking carbon.

  36. batting average of .207 and slugging .310, impressive Boni, but you make up for it with your fine defense, oh wait…

  37. Those were the last 3 guys you want at the plate there but mother fucking shit. All JP or Rajai needed to do was make somewhat decent contact.

  38. Well u cant blame boni…he did hit it to the outfield…something davis and strike3bia couldnt do

  39. I just broke my tv.

  40. Guaranteed – you squander opportunities like the Jays are doing…you’re gonna get boned. Blooper, dribble, dying quail, gorp..Texas leaguer – they’ll kill you.
That fucking Swisher will probably nail one now…just you wait.

  41. As per my utterly irrational theory that Toronto only seems to win when I don’t catch the game, I’m guessing we aren’t losing as I write this.

  42. Bingo…fucking told you. Didn’t take Kreskin to fucking figure that one out.
I’m buying a lotto ticket right now.

  43. U knew the tribe would show the jays how its done

  44. The first fucking scoring chance cle gets they capitalize on it. Meanwhile jays continue to give playing time to these bozos who have fucked up countless times.

  45. Finally the real Josh Johnson showed up.

I’ve given up hope in him being traded for anything worthwhile. Hopefully the Jays can get a draft pick for him when he walks.

  46. #FreePillar

  47. Fucking Blue Jays. Shitty hitters do nothing with a runner on third and then Joshson comes out and shits the bed.

  48. that was not a double play .Got lucky

  49. For me the worst part of JP isn’t the OBP it’s the fucking horrible recieving skills…strike out and dont walk all you want but don’t fuck pitchers out of borderline strikes…

  50. JJ kept it to two runs, still a very winnable game.

And if you can’t score on Ubaldo, then you don’t deserve to win anyway.

    • Problem is he only has to go 6 innings at which point they turn it over to the pen and Clevelands is pretty damn good. Jays have likely had their best chances to score already.

0 for 9 with RISP through five innings. that is pretty fucked up.

  51. What is run expectancy with first and 3rd and nobody out?

what about bases loaded and nobody out?

because we have scored exactly zero runs in those last two situations

  52. You guys remember when Adam Lind didn’t swing at shit pitches for a while there? That was kinda fun.

  53. Pathetic.

  54. Fuck you, Lind! Back to being our shitty old self. Just fuck off.

  55. I dont know about the game you are watching, but on my HDTV, Josh Johnson’s pitches look absolutely filthy tonight.

  56. Why are they asking everyone to vote for Freddie Freeman?

  57. Jays are turning back the clock on Ubaldo tonight. Taking him back to his colorado days

  58. this pitcher is so hittable tonight, wake the fuck up!

  59. It’s getting late early.

  60. Jimenez isn’t pitching well, we are hitting poorly.
    Hopefully people can notice this.

  61. I just cant tolerate watching our 6-9 hitters. They have to be the worst in the AL. Twins r better, im serious.

  62. Johnson looks like he took a shower for a change tonight.

  63. Holy fucking shit! JP gets a base hit! Is this Bizarro World?!

  64. How FUCKIN HARD can it be to teach this dork to bunt?

  65. Boni foul bunt?

    Didn’t see that one coming*

    * note: I did see that one coming.

  66. i really want to punch boni in the face

    • I want to say that I didn’t know I could loathe someone who I don’t even know…but no…it’s no surprise how much I loathe Boni. THE WORST. Yes, somehow even more crap than Strike3bia.

  67. At least Bonifacio didn’t hit into a double play.

  68. Anybody heard any updates about the status of the giant pussy we call Brandon Morrow? I know the Jays did some testing and found nothing wrong with his arm, but Morrow insisted he just didn’t feel “right”. Last I heard he was chillin’ with the wife down in Florida, not throwing or doing any baseball related activity. I’m pretty close to accepting the fact that him and his declining velocity are done for the season. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s pretty tough to have any confidence in that brittle fuck.

    • How do you think I feel? I bought his fucking jersey!

      • Hey man, can’t blame you for wanting a jersey, the guy has (had?) talent and looked like a potential top of the rotation starter for a short while, but the dude’s pushing 30 and it just hasn’t worked out. Morrow’s averaged approx. 140 IP per season since he became a starter (2010) while John Lester, who’s the same age as Morrow and survived cancer and a fought through other injuries as well, has averaged approx. 210 IP per season over the same time period. Unfortunately Morrow’s career trajectory continues to trend in a disturbingly shitty direction.

  69. Fuck this team.

  70. Sweet sac bunt bone face

  71. “Last I heard he was chillin’ with the wife down in Florida, not throwing or doing any baseball related activity.”

From whom? Who did you hear this from?

    • The Jays released a statement a while back (maybe 3 weeks – month ago) that indicated testing came back negative but they were shutting him down until he felt “right”

  72. Even a blind squirrel makes a decent play at 2B once in a while.

  73. ….’maybe 3 weeks – month ago’
…’ I’m pretty close to accepting the fact that him and his declining velocity are done for the season’

    you’re really digging hard.

    • Hey dickhead, I didn’t make this shit up.

From the Toronto Star June 18 :

“Blue Jays starting pitcher Brandon Morrow will have his forearm re-examined this week after he continued to experience “tenderness” in the arm in his first rehab start on Monday, manager John Gibbons said.
“He had a little setback. His forearm’s still bothering him, so we’ll back him off that rehab, get it examined see where he’s at.”
Morrow, 28, last pitched May 28 when he left the outing after just two innings due to soreness in his forearm. He threw two innings for Class-A Dunedin on Monday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, including a home run.”

Since then testing has come back negative and he’s been resting in Florida ever since. If you wanna enlighten us with an update as to his status I’d be curious to know what’s going on with him

  74. Erm, Johnson has been kinda good, no?

  75. You guys remember when Lind was up there with the league leaders in batting average?

  76. Fuuuuuuuuuuck this shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit. Fuck it. Just fuck it. Seriously, Lind must be Latin for “sucks shit.”

    • What have YOU done for us lately, King of the Dongs.
Feel free to be disappointed, but keep it in perspective.

  77. Yay – my Encarnacion’s Parrot shirt arrived! (I wish it had gotten here last Friday before I went down to the Dome…)

  78. Too bad no one will be on base for Colby’s homer

  79. What is this, I don’t even……

  80. Good night and good riddance to this fucking game.

  81. Did you see that JP? See that sac fly?!?!? Grrr…

  82. World Series favourites.

  83. OK… Jays have this.

  84. I hate losing to Rick Vaughn.

  85. Just not a dp

  86. Or should I say just not a JP?

  87. Just not a JP.

  88. This will be so fitting when JPA and Boni both strike out to lose this game.

  89. surprise surprise

  90. 3 pitch strikeout. What a piece of shit. Why not Thole last at bat?

  91. FFS

  92. JP is more of a “bases empty” guy. Runners on 2nd probably throw off his concentration.

  93. Tabby: Here’s Thole, he’s got some power.

    *bloop line to the shortstop

  94. Ubaldo “fucking” Jimenez

  95. I wish they would have just let the Rangers game air instead of this hot mess.

  96. Well, we can thank our incompetent bottom of the lineup for another loss. Seriously, if jpa and bonerfellatio were even LEAGUE fucking AVERAGE this team would have a better record. They are so fucking awful they bring this team down.

    • You make LEAGUE fucking AVERAGE sound like something that would leave a bad taste in your mouth. It’s actually pretty good.

      • Is it too much to ask for your everyday catcher and 2b to have a .700-750 ops? Because thats what league average is. A contending team should have that at every position and those 2 spots are killing the jays.

    • Come on…they only left 14 runners on between them

  97. #lovethisteam

Red Sox and John Farrellbsuck, amirite?

  98. Sell everything that isn’t nailed down. Give away the rest. Admit defeat and start over.

  99. Tank!!!!!!
