MLB: Houston Astros at Toronto Blue Jays

The threat here is that the Blue Jays are at risk of being swept by this shit-pile of an Angels team. At least Mike Scioscia is running out a lineup made almost entirely of 4-A players. For the love of Delgado, can we get out of this weekend with a win?

Mark Buehrle is charged with the responsibility of putting a stop the bleeding, and seeing as he’s made two great starts in a row, he’s probably our best bet. You can’t predict baseball.

We’ll skip the scuttlebutt section for today, as Stoeten has it covered with posts on the Steve Delabar/J.A. Happ situation, and a load of insanity via Nick Cafardo.

  1. I’ve got pretty long hair about this game but because I’m not doing anything for an hour I’ll watch for a bit. ANY MORE QUESTIONS?

  2. let’s jump out to a lead for a change please.

  3. Hey you Coors Light Drinking, Ossington loving hipster! I’m enjoying the long weekend on Lake Rosseau. Missing you!!

  4. Unsweepable!

Oh + Kyle – your first comment made me think that we were all going to discuss our pretty hair this afternoon. Coincidentally, I’m having an exceptional hair day today. And I’m spending it with you guys.

    • Coincidentally I am as well. I once had shoulder length hair (like a boss), so i own a ballin hairbrush. It’s been a while since i cut it but now there’s the perfect amount of hair to be handsome, about 4 inches long. Falling perfectly today

      • Boys tend to cut their hair *just* before it’s really ideal. Of course, I like a shaved head as well.

I changed my hair colour before I went on holiday but it’s settled nicely + with home field advantage today is the first day it feels like my hair. But fluffier.

      • fuck this isnt a queer fest, who gives a fuck about your pretty hair princess?! i have 4 inches of handsome hair on my ass so whoopty fuckin doo!!!! GO FUCKIN BLUE JAYS!!!

  5. the angels are the finest “shit-pile” of a team ever assembled

  6. Great ABs guys!! Really making wilson work!

  7. Drew Hutchison today 4.1 IP (75 pitches), 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.

    Daniel Norris today 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K.

  8. Good thing davis can hit lefties

  9. Is there such a paucity of even half-decent catchers out there that we must
endure the plate appearances of Arencibia for the rest of the season – or longer ?
He’s absolutely hopeless, and none of these plugs can do anything but
hit rainmakers that are mostly caught. I want to rip 25 new a-holes for the entire

    Jose Bautista – 14,000,000 – I can live with that for the time being, but – - – - – -

Josh Johnson – 13,750,000 ????? What we have here is the new ‘Con of the Century’.

    • It’s not a long con. Dude has gone from potentially doubling that salary next year, to maybe taking a tenth of that. Personally I`d offer no more than a minor league deal with an invite to camp, but I`m sure some team will give him 1/$2.5 or something along those lines.

      • ha, he’s going to get a lot more than that. Someone will take a real flyer on him. No way he gets less that 5 or 6 million.

  11. My 12 year old cousin played me this song and it reminded me of the Jays

  12. Why did Tabby just ask the question “I don’t think you can go to Spring Training without young players”

I mean, yes, you definitely can.

  13. Tabby speaking out against veterans [who know how to win]? Say it ain’t so!

  14. Game over

  15. Not only are the Angels “taking our lunch money”, now they’re giving us a ‘wedgie’….

  16. I see Blanco hit another HR……

    • And?

      • And his BA in Seattle is .170 with 2 lousy HRs.
I guess the HRs take the edge off of sending him out there.

    • The mean streets of Seattle do him good.

      • Are we seriously getting hate-fucked enough in this game that someone just pined for Blanco?

        • Pining for Blanco is just wrong. Things are probably not that bleak. Buck up, buttercups!

          • That’s good to know. Via’s wi-fi prohibits surfing anything more than a basic page on the interwebs, so I’m going by the comments here to gauge how this game is going.

            • The Blue Jays are making a really feeble attempt this afternoon. Losing 5-2 in the top of the 7th. At least it’s going quickly so we can all get on with other things.

  17. Thanks much, Jamie Campbell. My afternoon wouldn’t have been complete without seeing Fernando Rodney in his wonky cap shoot his fake arrow. FUCK. I can’t believe it took me this long to hate the Rays.

  18. Ted Lilly was released today.

No bad Gibbons joke here…does he actually make sense for this team?

  19. Yan Gomes is hitting .300 for the Tribe.

KJ/Escobar contribute for the playoff bound Rays.

Alvarez has done more for the Marlins in 6 starts than JJ has done for us all year.

Playing for the Jays must be a curse.

  20. The point I’m making here is guys suck ass here last year…and then go somewhere else and become half-decent players. As for alvarez, I was a little choked we traded him at such a young age when he could eat innings better than the 6’7″ sack of shit we got back.

    • Hindsight is 20/20 of course. AA had a plan and most were fine waiting until the prospects were ready. But all of a sudden he threw his plan out for a 2 year window. If this team sucks this bad next year he deserves to be canned.

      • Escobar wasn’t doing too hot hot when AA flipped Alex Gonzalez for him in 2010. He did turn it around at the end of 2010 and his 2011 was alright. 2012 was clearly a down year for him, though. Kelly Johnson was a pile of shit when he arrived and he was a pile of shit when he left.

    • In hindsight yes. But at the time I had no problem losing alvarez. The guy couldnt and still cant miss bats. The guy they totally overestimated was bonifacio. That sack of shit was never good and they thought this piece of shit could play everyday.

  21. How about Overpaid, oops, I mean Overbay. Apparently the Yankees have REAL
hitting coaches that know what they’re doing, not like the pitiful frauds here.

  22. What did chad mottola/pete walker ever do in the big leagues that made gibby/aa believe they could teach major leaguers how to prepare?

    • Well, John Gibbons never even made it.

I found it amusing when Walker came out to talk to Buehrle though. Rewind 7 years and they probably faced off at some point.

  23. If im wilson just walk jbats and ee and get to lind. That will work beautifully.

  24. EE 3-run HR coming up

  25. afdg,

They host decent BBQ’s and always buy the first and last round. Anything else ?

  26. Sorry, should have addressed that to bennyhill.

  27. What do you do here?

    PH Izzy and PR Boni?

  28. Tabby loves it when they touch certain parts.

  29. Jays showed fight?? Really buck? More like they had luck the angels played such shitty d. And theyre still losing.

    • At least they capitalized on the error. For them, this is an improvement. Asking for the lead is a step too far right now.

  30. When was the last time Bautista played 1B?

  31. Morris just suggested that Janssen should be a starter

  32. Haven’t seen Cecil in so long. He chopped off his lovely locks! Sorry – that’s more hair talk, less manly man talk. Je suis desolee.

  33. I sort of forgot about Gibbons’ ineptness the first time around, guess that is part
of the healing process that prevents us going mental.

It’s all coming back to me now.

  34. JPA double play ball here

  35. The big galoot done good.

  36. Hahaha the only way jpa can contribute

  37. JP Arencibia. The new Ron Hunt !!

  38. Relax, folks. That was not a CA tremor, that was just Scosia running out there.

  39. So did they just take out a right handed reliever and put in a lefty with Rajai up, because that seems dumb

  40. OH.MY.GOD. A comeback?!? Wee-ow. And it involved JPA not fucking up? Wow.

Even though I didn’t say it I feel like I should eat my hat.

  41. Jose clutchtista

  42. LOL @ the angels bullpen, it’s as bad as the Jays rotation.

    Woooo for Bautista.

  43. wellity wellity wellity

  44. YES!!! fuck yes

  45. You’d never know it by how they played against the Jays, but the Angels HAVE lost
    58 games, working on 59.

  46. Would the Angels trade Trout for our bullpen?

  47. I will trade Buck Martinez for Allan Ashby in a second, not think twice.

  48. Unsweepable

  49. Wow! Top of the order went 10 for 20 with 5 runs scored and 5 rbi’s! Woo-Hoo!

  50. Osuna with TJ surgery

    • Here’s the actual tweet from 6 hours ago:
“BlueJays prospect Roberto Osuna underwent Tommy John surgery last week. Could be pitching again by next July, AFL afterwards”

Why have they waited a whole week to let us know?

  51. I just can’t stay healthy. Have a gift basket.

  52. I’m sorry but there is nothing fucking dumber than blaming Chad Mottola for the Jays hitters’ struggles. All of the goddamned idiots saying that are the EXACT SAME fucking morons who advocated firing Dwayne and REPLACING him with Mottola because of what a good job he had done in AAA.

Now, I won’t go as far as Stoeten does; I do think there are a small handful of hitting coaches that really do make a difference at the MLB level. But even they can’t make shitty hitters good, and bad coaches can’t make good hitters shitty. So get over yourselves and work yourselves through this shithole of a season without being idiots.

  53. Melky triple slashes .300/350/430 with 35 2b and 18 Hr’s next year.
    I welcome the hate.
Just remember this post if it turns out anywhere near accurate.

Fucker can put the bat on it, with our without hammys.

From John Sickels, a review of the top 20 prospects in the system pre-season. Interesting read, not a whole lot that’s eye opening but a few guys I hadn’t realized who are raising their stock.

  55. My guess for September call ups would be Hutchison, Pillar, and Stroman. Possibly bring Kawasaki back up too for fan service.

Delabar and Loup have already surpassed last year’s innings pitched by quite a bit. I am sure TO would want to keep Delabar from blowing out his arm so they wont rush him back. Cecil is on track to pitch similar amount of innings as last year. Janssen is about 28 innings shy of last year’s limit so he may get used in more non-closing situations. Probably going to see a lot more Wagner and Lincoln from here on out.
