The Jays are playing out the string in the midst of a season that went about as badly as could have possibly been conceived when camps broke in late March and teams left their Spring Training facilities for another year. Their record when playing everybody except tonight’s opponent, the New York Yankees, is 65-68.

The Yankees are running out of time to make a playoff charge, sitting 2.5 games out of the second Wild Card spot, with two teams– Baltimore and Cleveland– sitting between them and current holders, the Texas Rangers. But the Yankees are in the right place. Their record when playing everybody except tonight’s opponent, the Toronto Blue Jays, is 66-68.

This continues to boggle my mind, even as I know how meaningless it is to dream on somehow having flipped the script to that degree. So… I don’t know… you’re welcome, New York?

Or… let’s maybe wait for thank-yous until after these glorified Buffalo Bisons attempt to play spoiler. Maybe Mariano Rivera already has made his last appearance at Rogers Centre, eh? Eh? Eh?

Though… with Moises Sierra as the Jays’ cleanup man tonight, and Ryan Goins and Josh Thole flailing away at the lefty Andy Pettitte, uh… I think we might be in for seeing him grace the Rogers Centre mound at least once more.

Just one item here today, and it’s ESPN’s fact sheet on Rivera’s career against the Toronto Blue Jays, ahead of his final series at Rogers Centre.

  1. heluva lineup there…. sweet lord

  2. Fucking Moises Sierra, is his bat worth his crappy defense?

  3. RA Duckey prediction. 4,1 IP. 7 H. 3 BB. 8 runs

    • c/mon man- don’t be a dick. The guy while not great has been decent and does chew up innings. Christ, you want Ortiz?,Coello?RR? Wang? Laffey? German? fukstik? Fuck, cmon

    • Duckey, you showed me. You had the 7, the 4 and the 8 but they were all in good places. I admit I underestimated you tonight Duckey, you did us proud.

  4. I hope they sweep the Yankees just to put a final stake in their playoff hopes

  5. Derozan-Pillar-Goins-Thole…. Sigh

  6. Apropos of nothing, my 6 year old know calls JPA strike3bia. You know the season’s been a shitshow when…

  7. Two worse ABs of season back to back there, Rajai and Lawrie. Just terrible.

  8. RA Dickey seems to be getting “squeezed” this evening
    -Jamie Campbell

  9. Colby’s trade value is escalating here

    • I hope they don’t trade him. Gose may never be ready to step in full time.

    • No fucking way AA is dumb enough to trade rasmus and start gose

    • A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, fukstik.
      Clete is a keeper.

      • Looks like Kittenface and Cletus will be back next year.

      • He’s had a great year, no doubt about it. Happy for him and he proved me wrong-this year. However,AA as the GM has to decide whether this is the real Colby or is this an outlier year. His BABIP is up so he has had some good fortune this year.
I think his increased value ( and 1more year of control) puts him at a higher market value in Dec than he will be next July. We need a good SP. Colby + a solid reliever like Delabar might be able to get us that.
One thing for sure, someone of substance has to go if we are to improve our SP via the trade route-do you not agree my culinary friend?

        • Except this isn’t an outlier year since it mimics quite well his break out year with the Cardinals. it might be his ceiling but he’s shown that it’s not unreasonable to expect he can do this again.

Plus, he’s leading the team in WAR. If you’re expecting to win next year, you don’t trade away guys like that.

  10. No Buck, Davis has not hit ball hard twice tonight.

  11. Can’t touch the Dick

  12. Hey everyone. I’m still vaguely here. Even though I did pony up the dough + bought myself the MLB Premium thing so I have all of the baseballs ever right here on my laptop. And yet, I’m still watching this game…+ other things.

Anyway, just checking in. I’ll be @ the game tomorrow [unfortunately]. Keep your eyeballs peeled.

    • Cheap seats again?

      • Always, always the cheap seats, dude.

This might be my last visit to the SkyDome for a while. Planning on not buying any tickets next year + using the $$$ to go to Yankee Stadium in the spring.

        • The horror…

        • I was at Yankee stadium a couple of weeks ago. My first MLB experience outside of Exhibition Stadium and Skydome. It was quite fun, though I did find the stadium more sterile than anticipated. Yankees lost, which I am normally happy about, but I wanted to see the crowd go crazy for a Yankee win.

      • We like our beer flat as can be
We like our dogs with mustard and relish
We got a great pitcher, what’s his name?
Well, we can’t even spell it
We don’t worry about the pennant much
We just like to see the boys hit it deep
There’s nothing like the view from the cheap seats.

        Cheap seats.

        • Well played!

        • Sittin’ in the cheap seats, underneath the stars
I’m heading back to base – I’ll drop you off @ Mars

I’m just excited to be @ new Yankee Stadium as I haven’t been yet. And anything [other than the Trop - which I've been pulled back into to watch this Rangers/Rays series - THE HORROR] is less depressing than SkyDome. Also, a week in NYC – what’s not to like?

  13. Magic Man.
    Nice Rajai.

I’m going to miss this guy!

    • You don’t think he gets another year? He’s pretty cheap for what you get.

      • Something’s gotta give.
My guess is Rajai is a part of that.
He’s upped his value out of the 4th outfielder/pinch runner role.

        • I would rather have Gose as the 4th OF next year. Cheaper. Way better defensively. Rajai is going to get paid by someone, I think.

          • Gose will have to learn how to hit and steal though. He’s got the tools, but they haven’t all clicked into place.

  14. Nice fuckin play follow by fuck, nice play

  15. The Man from Muncie is not fleet of foot.
This is not news, unless your name is Rivera.

  16. Another two victories and we can dance on the Yankees’ playoffs grave

  17. Janssen’s wiggle does it again :)

  18. Liking the idea of fucking the Yankees over, so….yeah. Keep doing it.

  19. I wonder what gift the Blue Jays give Rivera. If it’s an Indian carving I’ll puke. Hope he gives it back.

  20. That game last night was the sort of game that I think AA thought he would see a lot of this season. Dickey pitched well enough to get the win. There was a highlight reel play by Lawrie. And the Jays won with two dingers. Gives me a tiny bit of hope for next year…
