Would you look at those records. Woof!

The Jays have made it to Baltimore where they’ll try to stick a fork in the O’s fading playoff chances– which took their biggest hit over the weekend, and I don’t just mean because of the Manny Machado injury. Baltimore’s Wild Card elimination number– i.e. their tragic number– sits at two, so there’s not much hope there. On the bright side, their young third baseman didn’t tear his ACL or MCL, Danny Knobler tweets that he estimated healing time for him is just 6-8 weeks, which, say what you will about how enjoyable it is to see the Orioles lose, is great news.

Oh, and… uh… something something baseball game.

Todd Redmond, actually, is worth a watch. I’m on board!

Brendan Kennedy tweets that Brett Cecil’s MRI came back clear– he just has elbow inflammation, nothing major.

Kennedy adds that Colby Rasmus suffered no serious injury to his face when hit by Anthony Gose’s throw the other night in Boston, but he’s still done for the season anyway.

He also says that Neil Wagner left the club to be with his wife for the birth of their first child today, and that Rajai Davis will do the same later in the week. WHAT IF THIS WAS A PLAYOFF RACE, GUYS???

  1. Sugh

  2. Might as well get Marty Brown to manage his team tonight.

  3. We need a for reals 3rd base coach next year.

  4. I for one like this Mark Buehrle with a fake beard aka Redmond character. Same body type, same height, same face shape, same stuff…

    • I knew Buehrle could pitch 200 innings a year! I just knew it!! All he needed was a disguise beard….

  5. I’m hoping that was an instant replay.

  6. Lind is going to hit a jack here.

  7. Jack Morris quote of the night: “Gose can hit the ball to the gap and see if he can get to third before Lind crosses home plate.”

  8. From Orioles Hangout:

“Hey, Why not Adam Lind next year? He’s a FA. if nothing else if we sign him he cant beat us like he does
year after year…Plays LF and DH and can spell Davis at 1b.”

  9. Fuckfuckfuck. :(

  10. SP, thanks for picking up the slack for me yesterday, much appreciated.

  11. One more present.

  13. Watch out. That Dan Johnson appears to be a ghost. Spooky.

  14. I’m confused again.
    Is it still early?

  15. Alright so ive identified some potential targets to make this team better next year.

For catcher: Look at acquiring castro from HOU or ellis from LAD.
For 2nd base: Sign omar infante ($7-8M/yr)
For pitching: Sign garza or acquire a frontline starter through trade.
For 1b/dh: Say goodbye to lind and look for alternatives who are more conistent and dont need a platoon partner. Maybe that cuban guy (abreu?) if hes not too expensive.
LF: Stuck with melky for another year.

Obviously, in reality these upgrades are much harder to do. But these are the kind of players AA should be targeting to improve the starting rotation and the atrocious bottom half of the lineup.

    • So you think AA should target good players to replace the teams bad players?

It’s a bit unorthodox…but it just might work!

  16. The way I see it, Blue Jays could save 300 dollars a season. Just ignore Arencibia’s requests to buy him some bats.

  17. Holy crap Santos has an awesome arsenal, that slider is just lights out.

    • Yes, it’s funny how all those ‘trust me, he’ll never pitch again/worst trade ever’ comments have dried up.

  18. More presents.

  19. Is that a baulk if Janssen’s wooden leg falls off from rocking on it ??

  20. U-S-A, U-S-A

    • Orioles Hangout:

      “People are chanting U-S-A? Ugh.”

      • Also:

“Yeah, our reputation’s already toast. Do we have to make it any worse?”

        • Ya know what they never did approve the membership I tried to sign up for months ago when I realized just how awesome the commentators on that site are.

          • To be honest, many of them were awesomely pathetic, but time has taken it’s toll on Orioles Hangout.
            Sound familiar?

  21. If the Jays can’t be happy, I’m down crushing the Orioles’ dreams, too.

  22. Redmond 5th starter next year?

    • Good win tonight.! I hope the Jays keep Janssen. If the Jays are serious about competing next year we need a shutdown closer like Casey.

Santos is back to the guy we thought we traded for.

I really like Todd Redmond. Esmil Rogers is OK, but may turn out to be the Carlos V of 2014.

The bright side of this disastrous season, is that the Jays were able to find out what so many prospects in Buffalo can do at the MLB level.

Kawasaki,Goins,Siera, Gose, Pillar etc all got playing time this year.

      • Oakville, don’t judge the guys you listed with the team 22 some on games back. If those guys make the team next year, see what they do in April, May and June. I know what Kawasaki can do for me, the rest still have to show me something.

  23. How are those 1st time fathers not family planning better? Don’t they know – no shaggin in January – it makes for playoff run babies! Always on the All Star break guys – come on, where’s the coaches?

  24. It is sad we won the game. Losses here on out would help us get a lot better draft pick. Could make a big difference especially if we can get top 10. Give Ricky a start!

  25. Has anyone realized how Fucking FUCKED it is that Cleveland was worse than us last year and in the playoffs this year?

They took a team that was a complete pile of dogshit and basically added Nick Swisher and Scott Kazmir. Nick FUCKING Swisher and Scott FUCKING Kazmir! And now they’re in the playoffs?!?

If AA had signed Swisher and Kazmir and called it a day, people in Toronto would’ve pooped their pants. Fuck. What a miserable season.

    • Cleveland has a playoff/championship manager, some talent and guys with winning character. Blue Jays have talent…………….and little character. There are other areas to look at than just stats and excuses.

    • they also have a solid backup backstop from BRAZIILLL with an opb of 339
thanks for the throw in AA

    • their pitching has been a lot better this year. pitching is something Cleveland hasn’t had in a while. Masterson and others have been pitching well.

Fuck off about manager and ‘character’

    • If Tito and his rag tag bunch of rustbelt cast aways manage to knock out the Red Sox I’ll be pretty happy.

    • Michael Bourn doesn’t suck either, and it’s a lot easier to make a big jump from year to year in the steaming cesspool of suckiness that is the AL Central than it is in the AL East.

  26. Also, people, enough with the lose for a high draft pick shit. This is not the fucking NBA! Drafting process in MLB is nothing like the NBA or NFL.

    • ok so yeah, maybe we should just voluntarily pick at the end of every round then. of course a high draft pick is more valuable than a mid round draft pick, even in baseball. thanks though.

    • One of the quirks in the new system is the money allotment given to each pick which contributes to the teams spending budget. The Jays can finish between about 8th and 14th, the difference in allotment for those in 2013 was just under 600,000, 630,000 if you include the extra 5% you can go over without penalty.

The way the Jays have used the system, this becomes the ability to sign one or two extra guys late in the draft like they did this year, so it can be a pretty big difference and a real boon to the system.
