Sergio, noooooooooo!

The price of doing business for the Jays this winter is that, almost certainly, the club is going to have to move a player we really don’t want to see them move. For you that might not be Sergio Santos, but for me it kind of is. Just when he starts to get filthy again, we start looking to move him??!?!

Apparently! At least according to this Jon Morosi tweet. But that’s hardly the most stunning thing about it:

It was the other player who failed the physical??? Not Santos! Amazing.

More details:

Interesting. And if it was a three-way deal, and the Rangers had obvious interest in J.P. Arencibia as well, you can’t help but think it might have been even bigger than one might think on first blush here.

I have no idea! Interesting to see that Alex is trying stuff, though, and good to hear that they caught whatever issue the unnamed player had before the deal went through. I wonder what it was…

So… there’s that.

  1. Why trade santos? Mustve been about Saving $. In terms of stuff, hes their best reliever

    • Huh? He’s on a great contract. If they wanted to save money they’d trade Happ or something.

      • His contract isn’t great at all.

14:$3.75M, 15:$6M club option, 16:$8M club option, 17:$8.75M club option ($0.75M buyouts for each option)

It’s reasonable for this year, but after this year it’s basically market rate or above for a non-closing reliever.

        • Well, great might be a stretch, but with the price of closers these days and all the club options it’s hardly something you’d look to dump.

    • Shit, I don’t know, to improve the club in another area maybe?

  2. 2 weeks ago… hmmm.

    Was that prior to Fielder/Kinsler?

    Kinsler to us………

The third team was probably the White Sox but this time Texas had someone examine Mike Sirotka,

  3. Brett Anderson?

  4. Why trade santos when his value is lower, trade casey, and build value of santos throughout the season then trade him.

  5. Probably not “looking to move him” necessarily, but just the cost of whatever they were trying to get.

  6. @ShiDavidi: #BlueJays nearing deal to sell Thad Weber’s rights to South Korean club NC Dinos. Once completed, they’ll have 39 players on 40-man roster

  7. Failed medical ! the Player was Halladay and the Jays got him today anyway !

  8. They do have 6 starters and if they are serious about Tanaka to go with Darvish then possibly 7.

They’ve always undervalued Ogando, fuckin him around between long relief, relief and the rotation. He’d be a hell of a pickup.

    • Obviously pure speculation on my part…

    • If it was a three-way though the Jays likely would have been receiving a player from that third team. No way to even speculate who it would have been really. Unless they were somehow in on a different version of the Fielder deal.

  9. Hey, that Diaz kid looks a lot like a “walker.” Put him and Jamey Carroll out there and we’d have the “Hallowe’en Team.”

  10. Would JPA’s missing chromosome show up in medical records?

  11. Failed medical?

    Feliz?

  12. Some guy on MLBTR comparing Bautista to Nelson Cruz. It’s like the TSN forums over there.

  13. Halladay on PTS: AA has said that he’ll be able to be around ST and maybe looking at some of the front office stuff (trade deadline/draft).

    Could be cool…

    • It’d be quite cool if Roy and Sanchez could exhange notes. IMHO Sanchez looks a lot like Doc.

      • He does resemble him hey? Build, windup.
I had noticed that as well but feared making any comparisons to the Doctor.

  14. I think I’d rather not know who it was for in this case. Its like asking a girl how many guys she’s been with. Too many? Slut. Too few? Prude. In the middle? There is no fucking middle!!!! Fucking slutty prude.

Why am I this drunk and angry already?

  15. This speculation is so, so pointless, yet I can’t help it. Keep thinking maybe there was more to that Gentry/Choice swap, perhaps with Jaso coming our way? That’s a pretty strong candidate for a failed physical.

  16. The deal involved Mitch Moreland coming to Toronto and Adam Lind going to the Pirates but Lind failed his physical.

    • id do that in a heartbeat. and not surprised on Lind, given has aversion to moving

      • I don’t actually know this to be true, just being a bit tongue and cheek.

But given that the Rangers are willing to move Moreland and the Pirates have interest in Lind it’s as good of a guess as any I guess.

You could also speculate that the 3rd team was the Cubs with Samarjzdia involved.

        We’ll probably never know.

  17. my guess: santos to texas… gentry to Oakland… anderson to Toronto.

  18. According to MLBTR people are kicking the tires on Danny Espinoza. I wonder if he could be had for a lower-ceiling starting prospect like Nolin. Would certainly be worlds better than what we are trotting out there, even if he’s ideally a utility guy.

  19. Maybe it was one of our guys who failed his physical. Morrow or Romero, you know, like a really big 3 way trade. Just sayin’….

  20. These hands are so expressive and I kinda like the idea of paitinng them then crackling them, thanks so much for the tut and idea!!! And for my wonderful prize I can’t wait!!!Blessings,Flora
