Now a little something to kill time on a Thursday afternoon (or a ride to Montreal): it’s an actual, shit-you-not real edition of the DJF podcast!

And today we’ve got just Drew and I, with @John_Noon on the ones and twos, but no one filling in for the hopelessly disinterested Wally Pippp as our fourth Horseman of the Anthocalpyse while we discuss positivity, good times, real emotion, Carolans, and Dustin McGowan’s Cy Young bid.

If you’re more inclined to download today’s podcast, hit up the mp3 link.

Soundcloud looks fancy and is awesome, but don’t forget that, if you prefer, the DJF iTunes page remains up and running too. Get on over there and subscribe– or update the subscription you already have to find the latest episode (once it’s up). You can also find it via our podcast RSS feed. Follow DJF on Facebook, too, while you’re at it.

Many (most? some?) mintmusical interludes courtesy Toronto’s own Optical Sounds, who recently released Psych Pop 2, their second free-to-download compilation of outstanding tunes from local psych- and garage-influenced artists, plus friends of their great collective. Be sure to check them out online and buy every single fucking thing you hear at their site!

  3. Rolling Rock best light beer. Canada finally got it.

  4. Oh, on the other side a escapology to you all ….I am now alcohol free fukstik! Jokijnmg ofcuse sip stoeterv!

  5. ESCOBAR over REYES? Are you FUCKED?

    Now who’s human garbage??

    • Escobar was worth 3.9 WAR last year.
Reyes (albeit hurt) was worth 2.2.

Escobar made $5M. Makes $5M this year. Has a $5M option for next year.
      Reyes made $10M. Makes $16M this year. Makes $22M next year. Makes $22M in 2016. Makes $22M in 2017. Has a $22M option for 2018 ($4M buyout).

I said *all* things considered. I love that we have Jose Reyes, don’t get me wrong, and I’d even be so bold as to wager he provides more value than Escobar this year (as he has ever year of their careers, save last year and 2009). But that Escobar deal is pretty damn tremendous.

    • Do you think Reyes is $11M better than Escobar? How about $17M better next year?

  6. FUCK YUNEL ESCOBAR UP A HAIRY GOATS ASS

  7. HUMAN GARBAGE!

  8. Good work on the Carolans, Stoeten. I been on that train for a good decade.

    SCENE

    EXT. ONTARIO MUNICIPAL CAMPGROUND.

BUNCH OF HURTBAGS DRINKING COFFEE AROUND A FIRE MADE FROM EMPTY TWELVE PACK BOXES AND PAPER FASTFOOD BAGS

HURTBAG 1: “Fuck, I wish I brought some fuckin’ Baileys.”
    Me: “I brought Carolans.”
HURTBAG 1: “What the fuck is that?”
ME: “It’s cheaper than Bailey’s and tastes just as good.”

  9. Hey, my track record isn’t too bad, Stoeten.

Reyes had the ankle excuse last year, but the thing about him is that his range has been declining for several years now. He also shows up particularly bad in some of the defensive metrics like UZR and DRS. An eventual move to 2B seems fairly inevitable in his case, but I fear it might turn into a Vernon Wells in CF type situation where the aging veteran star remains at his position far longer than he deserves due to his name/reputation. The Jays didn’t need that from 08-10 and they don’t need it now.

  10. Fontenot released. I think I would rather have him than Goins (or shit, have both).

Career 750 OPS vs righties, average fielder.

  11. Could you guys get AA on the podcast on day for an interview (assuming he still has his job by May/June)? That would be amazing.

    • If a name ever gets on the show I’m not expecting any pressing questions. Remember the cowtowing to Amy Nelson during the Man in White story? I felt like Stoeten brought up some great stats that shat all over her “research” … would have been great to see some follow through when she was interviewed.

  12. The shuffle Janssen does before he pitches is sexy, I practice it in front my mirror and I use it on the chicks

  13. Marisnick is not the piece that got away in the Reyes/Buehrle/JJ trade. It will play out that Nicolino is player the Jays wished they had back, albeit a couple years from now. Kid already knows how to pitch and his control is outstanding. In addition to the loss of a good OF that the Jays could use now (Marisnick), a good bottom rotation SP (Alvarez), the complete disaster (Josh Johnson), the injury history and expense/inflexibility of Reyes and the Marlins won that trade. Had JJ worked out well the Jays would have won it.
