It’s been a soggy day in Baltimore, with more rain expected in the area through the evening, leading some, at the time of this writing, to wonder whether they’re going to be able to get the game in. Which… since the time of this writing is right before the World Cup kicked off this afternoon, who knows what the forecast might now be bringing? Alls I know is… this here is a game right here.

OK, I got nothing.

Go Jays!

One more time with feeling: tonight we’re having a little DJF shindig (read: getting drunk and watching baseball) at Opera Bob’s here in Toronto. Hit up the Facebook event page, if that’s your thing, for all the pertinents.

While we’re here, a reminder that our old friend Bergkamp makes awesome Dutch comfort food at The Ossington on Sundays, and he’ll be kicking that enterprise into high gear for all of the Netherlands’ matches during the World Cup. Head over there on Friday for the 3 PM rematch of the 2010 Final, as the Dutch take on Spain. In the meantime, check out Borrel at the Ossington for a taste (see what I just did there?) of what you can expect. Hup Holland!

This too: PITCH #4 is fast approaching — it takes place a week from today, Thursday, June 19th — and for those of you who missed the announcement, I’ll be one of the panelists, along with a much more talented group, featuring Jonah Keri, Michael Grange, and Morgan Campbell. Tickets are still available, so grab yourself some here, and be sure to follow @PitchTalks for all the info you need.

TV: Sportsnet

Next game(s): Tomorrow, 7:05 PM ET @ Baltimore

For those of you who’ll be out and about, be sure to follow all the action on your phone with theScore app.

Play will resume at 9:30. Still time to grab a beer and a snack

  7. This was just tweeted.

A writer’s nightmare: Rzepczynski pitching, Saltalamacchia catching, Pierzynski batting. Extra innings. On deadline.

  18. This isn’t quite the way I’d like the Jays to score against the O’s but, of course, I’ll take it.

  19. Lucky rain I reckon

  20. get em over get em in.

  21. Leadoff walks kill, lucky for us.

  22. That was mighty risky run for Jose and Jose.

  23. And Tommy Hunter was their closer before, i wished it stayed that way…

  24. It never rains, but it pours.

  25. Impressive hustle by Joey

  26. Woot! Love love the little loper.

  27. Are we back from the mini-vacation?

  28. Runner on 3rd less than two outs…. just get it done any way possible

  29. Are we gonna see a pissed off version of Casey Jansen after his ERA got tainted by the Twits?

  30. Dear Baltimore,
Don’t lose faith in Tommy Hunter. Pitch him again tomorrow.

  31. Delicious

  32. Gawd if his first name was Barney, he will immediately win the MVP

  33. Hmmmmm….. Goggles….

  34. “FX Canada….not available on Bell”

    Oh Rogers

  35. That’s 1.

  36. Adam Jones- Let’s talk about something important! [to Cecil] Put that coffee down!! Coffee’s for closers only. [Cecil scoffs] You think I’m fucking with you? I am not fucking with you. I’m here from downtown. I’m here for Mitch and Murray. And I’m here on a mission of mercy.

  37. Ow, groin pull.

  38. Injury Delay??

  39. Breaking? Brett Cecil?

  40. Nice pitch

  41. Dustin…Don’t throw at the wrong location with Davis.

  42. Thank Gawd, that Davis is a Monster…I can hear Texas crying….

  43. Speaking about Texas in tears, Here’s Nelson Cruz!

  44. Way to go Eddie!

  45. Getting a little thin for useable late inning relievers.
Pretty much down to Dusty, Loup and Janssen.

  46. Nice!

  47. Dustin McGowen… Sergio WHO???

  48. That’s an out

  49. So fuckin out

  50. pretty sure EE stayed on, but WTF is the deal with Reyes’ throws? I can accept the mediocre range, but don’t make me hold my breath on every routine grounder

  51. He’s out

  52. Cry more, Baltimore

  53. Hell of a play by Edwin

  54. How awkward is it watching the two umpires wired to the lady with the double holster headphones?

  55. Let’s leave the speculating about Brett Cecil’s groin to the professionals. By which I mean me.

  56. Lawrie beating the shit out of the dugout?

  58. Get this fuckin team to 40W tonight Dusty!!!

  59. McGowan really needs to revitalize his mutton chops.

  60. Still a successful season for Dustin, if he becomes the surprise 8th inning man and POWER ARM of the ‘pen, and sports a sub 2.00 ERA since joining the bullpen, and trade Santos for a bargain bin project starter who flourishes in our system.

  61. Was there any doubt, that was a breath of fresh air.

  62. Woo WIN!

  63. Get him a body bag… Yeah!!!!!

  64. Excellent. Good game Drunk Jays Fans

  65. Out hit 9-4, win 4-0.

  66. Dustin with the “I OWN THE BULLPEN” type of game

  67. Thank Zues AA didn’t spend to get Ubdalo Jiminez…

  68. Jays win! The cost of living has just gone up a dollar a quart.

  69. Great job by Hutch we needed that.

  70. That is an infinite number because Morrow amounts to zero now.

  71. Dustin’s pen performance goes to show you the addage that you get more value out of a player as a starter than as a reliever…is FALSE.

It depends on how successful the player is at starting vs relieving.

Is it really more valuable to get 180 mediocre innings from McGowan as a starter AND weakening the bullpen or getting 60 high leverage, high quality relief innings?

Sure if a dude is equally good at starting as they are at relieving, tis better to start them, but how many guys can pull that off?

  72. This win was needed. Things were starting to go south. Offense cant relax now. Got to beat up on the o’s and yanks this week.

  73. The splits are getting more extreme: Hutch is 1-3 with an 8.72 ERA at home and 4-1 with a 1.79 ERA on the road.

  74. Been watching the hockey game and it is in overtime at 2 so catching up on the 4-0 win.
Smasher, spuds,RADAR, someone, fill me in on Hutch-was he hitting his spots regularly? Showing a good heater tonite? fill me in as it looks good on the news blurbs. Gotta go back to a beer and the overtime-being called by the boy. Over and….out

  75. Tampa Bay have been putting together a few wins lately. Their last 10 is now 2-8.
    That’s an improvement.

  76. Pure speculation on my part but it looked like the Cecil thing was more then a tweak.
If so, Jays could bring back Hendriks or most probably Rasmussen but to me, this would be a good opportunity to give Nolin a few innings.
It seemed to work well for Stroman to get the jitters out in the pen.
Be nice to see if there’s an ML arm there in case injuries or innings become a factor.

  77. Holy shit boys, maybe it’s the rum, but I just checked the standings and we are 40 and 29.

    That’s 40 wins and 29 losses.

    Let’s make some fuckin noise.
