Anibal Sanchez. Max Scherzer. David Price. Felix Hernandez. Chris Young. Hisashi Iwakuma.

Holy. Thank fuck Melky’s OK. Um… can everyone else be OK already too, though? One thinks this could be a tough stretch — and right at a time, with the Jays now even with the Yankees, and behind the Royals in the Wild Card race, when they don’t need one.

Of course, it’s baseball, and all of those guys are absolutely beatable. The Tigers have lost nine of the twenty games Sanchez has started this year. For Scherzer it’s seven of 23. Price’s teams have lost nine of the 24 games he’s started. For King Felix it’s eight of 24. Nine of 24 for Chris Young, and eight of eighteen for Iwakuma.

Obviously that doesn’t say anything about how well they pitched. In a lot of those games surely they were great — they’re great pitchers (um… and Chris Young) — I just mean to point out that these aren’t unwinnable games, either. So it might be as fun a stretch as it will be tough.

Go Jays!

Scuttlebutt

Melky “told the trainers he was ready to go,” according to John Gibbons, via a John Lott tweet. “That was all I needed to hear.”

Barry Davis tweets that Cabrera will wear a pad on his elbow, but that he’s ready to play through the pain.

Valencia and not Francisco in the lineup tonight against a right-hander? Yep. According to a tweet from Mike Wilner, John Gibbons wants to see what he’s got — and thinks there’s some “whip in his bat,” saying that the player thinks being told to hit home runs (as apparently the Royals had done) messed him up.

A tweet from Chris Toman tells us that John Gibbons would be “very surprised” if Adam Lind’s back issue was anything.

In the Toronto Star, Brendan Kennedy asks a bunch of agents about what it will take to sign Melky Cabrera, and… actually it’s not really that bad.

The Washington Post looks at the quality of beer at the various Major League parks, and the Jays? Well… it’s shameful.

  1. A new low.

  2. all down here from here…

actually it already started when they lost 3/4 to the astros

  3. lol i love the way aaron loup walks in..reminds me of a t-rex with his arms back and looking very short

  4. [scrotum tightening reaches ungodly level]

  5. I just cant believe this team. Im speechless

  6. Based on JB’s and Casey’s comments after the deadline, if this season falls off the rails, the clubhouse atmosphere could get reAl toxic real quick. Rightly or wrongly, they’re going to feel like ownership and the FO let them down just when they had a shot.

And JB asking for a trade would not be even a little bit surprising.

    • If i was him i would..he’s going to be a year older with the same team and most likely without any upgrades coming…Rogers is going to tighten purse strings as Reyes and Buerhle’s contracts will rise..

    • Shit. I will agree with you.

    • He absolutely should. The front office/ownership is full of liars and crooks. Winning is the not the priority for this organization and it all starts with rogers.

    • Fuck off, not even a little bit surprising?

  7. On the bright side, Joe Nathan is a dogshow so this could be fun.

  8. Man I really hope these last two months don’t go to hell

  9. Uh it’s Joe Nathan. Step away from the ledge for a bit.

  10. Welp. Guess that was bound to happen with the ways hes been pitching the last 3 weeks. Meatballs. Sherzer and Price this weekend…Welp.

  11. Hey Joe Nathan sucks too..maybe not all is lost

  12. Nathan’s a grease fire. We still have a chance.

  13. Holy hell is CJ ever balding. Closer role takin its toll

  14. just out in front jose

  15. Smart Nathan..pitching around jose

  16. if Dinner walks it off..i want to see the greatest bat flip of all time

  17. OF Chris Young D’d FA

Pretty sure I remember guys asking for/about him

Sorry sorry intense moment I know

  18. Joey Bats gonna steal

  19. Come on Dinner, bear down here

  20. FUCKKKKKKK….just under it

  21. I have faith.

  22. C’mon D-Val

  23. this is where you miss edwin and lind behind bats

  24. wtf Valencia..that was a rajai davis curve ball 3 feet away swing

  25. Nice at bat…. Jesus

  26. C’mon Cletus – save us!!!

  27. Lol that was just ugly

  28. i’d like to believe he would hit a HR(rasmus) but the predictable K is about to happen

  29. He’s going to whiff.

  30. I know it’s just a game but I am ready to fucking break something.

  31. Anyone else starting to hate Rasmus?

  32. Rasmus “could” hit it out. He does have power.

  33. Jays snatch defeat from the jaws of victory

  34. OMG…a walk…but another K brother coming up …

  35. Someone tell Big Juan you’re not supposed to put the actual tin the dip comes in into your cheek.

  36. OH BABYYY Juan Fran up with the game on the line. This willl end in tears. Of Joy or Sadness?

  37. OK fat man. Make it happen

  38. How bad is Valencia’s eye to strike out on that shit Nathan was dealing him? Lordy.

  39. Juan likes the fastball and Nathans curve has been no where close.
    COuld be a good match.

  40. Alright big boy lay off the breaking stuff

  41. Id reallllllllllllllllly rather see Muni for fuck sakes. The guy who is hitting .300

  42. Nathan doing the Mitch williams

  43. Just put the bar away now please

  44. I hope Gibbons remembers that Valencia should be strictly a platoon player and nothing more.

  45. Juan the plate discipline God

  46. bases loaded.

  47. I’d be okay with a Juan Fran walk.

  48. Thank you, take your base

  49. omg..Thole..please……

  50. It’s fate. It’s Come To This.

The move able object vs the resistable force

  51. Thole has a pretty good eye at the plate…

  52. I can’t even watch.

  53. If the jays flame out this year (hopefully not) this would be a huge gut punch after their great may. I just can’t take the toll it takes on me day after day. I love baseball but after 12 years of this crap I’m wondering if I should stop being a jays fan. (I hope not)

  54. Fuck this team man

    Off to the bar

  55. Fucking fuck

  56. Lame

  57. Well.

That was about as anticlimactic as you can get.

  58. FUCK OFF

  59. Of course

  60. Lmao this team isn’t good

  61. Fuck.

  62. Welp

  63. slowly driving off the cliff.

  64. Hey bases loaded bottom of the ninth in a close game that actually matters is something, right?

  65. So it’s come to this. Rooting hard for the teams playing KC, Seattle and the Yankees.

We’ll always have May. May was so glorious.

    Currently sulking in the boat.

  66. I’m throwing in the towel. Fuck ownership.

  67. Well the next 5 guys might be a fucking disaster. But after that I think we’ll be alright Get Edwin and Lind back, and the schedule looks pretty decent to finish off the year once we get Seattle and Detroit out of the way

    • It won’t matter at that point.

      • Nah theyll be like 45 games left or whatever. The Division is way out of sight right now, but I think we can hang in with the other mediocre teams for the second wildcard

  68. Fucking damnit

  69. That’s it for me… The season is over. I won’t be around to watch it but it’s time to blow it all up and pack it in.
I will not watch another game this year. Nor will listen or even follow on games at.

    I’m out!

  70. as if that didnt sum up the jays in one inning..blow the lead then tease their way for the L

  71. I believe that’s called a character loss

  72. I would like EE and Lind back very much so

  73. I SUMMON ORILOL

  74. For fuck’s sake, there’s still almost two months of ball left.

  75. A horrible time to have “one of those nights”. Casey is awesome, but this is pretty much the nail in the coffin for the season in my opinion. Obviously there’s still 40 odd games to go, but highly unlikely they come out strong against the remaining 4 aces after this defeat.

    This sucks.

  76. What a de-moralizing loss, crushing haymaker to solar plexus.
Not off the boat yet, not ever, but need to hop off a bit to clear the head

  77. Whatever happened to “its all over!” Guy?

He was always good for a laugh

    • Stoeten made efforts to block me, as he doesn’t appreciate the genius of my postings. I’m always lurking, though, and will return when the time is right.

  78. How many games have we lost with a lead 7th or later ? How many have we won when trailing 7th or later ?

The Answer to the first is a few
The answer to the second is none

That will end up being what keeps us out of the playoffs

    • The game in Cincinatti?

    • Actually I’m pretty sure that if they don’t make the playoffs it will be because they win less games than other teams. Doesn’t matter in the slightest if they’re leading or trailing after 7

  79. I’m on the boat.

Turned out to be the Costa Concordia.

  80. Looks like its worn off. For those of you who haven’t noticed , I’ve been complete shit since the break.

  81. @GuzmansJhercurl: I kinda feel like this team may be done….it’s a shame too, this is totally on the owners for essentially giving up at deadline

    • They gave up in the offseason and that cunt Keith Pelley had the audacity to say AA doesn’t need to ask for money after the Santana embarrassment. I guess you can’t ask for what was never there, though. Sadly, the team will get ripped apart once the season is over. Cheap content indeed.

      • Never give them a cent of your money
        Boycott their products
Hope those rich misers (oxymoron) lose their jobs over this shit

  82. Come back and save us Parrot!

  83. Welll… that was… the worst

  84. I fucking hate Rogers and AA for doing nothing at the deadline when the team still had a chance to make noise. (They could still get back in it but are now a dogpile for the WC)

    • This isn’t on AA. He doesn’t control the purse strings.

      • Stop making excuses for him. We’ve been hearing that for years. Hes been GM for 5 years, and Rogers gave him a top 10 payroll for the last 2 of them. He needs to share some blame.

If his hands are as tied as we think, then he should’ve made something happen via trade. We’re in the first pennant race in 20 years. Standing pat just wasn’t an option.

Shitty part is, this year’s division weakness looks very much like an anomaly. Next year might be back to the grind. This was the year you had to go for it.

Hey, at least we’l still have Francisco for the next 2 seasons tho.

        • Agreed
To make Rogers hurt in the wallet
          Boycott their products

And by the way I wish the jays had a gm that wasn’t all talk

        • First off, AA wasn’t trying to win from 2010 to 2012. He took the club from having one of the worst farm systems to one of the best. Second, Rogers opened their wallet and he did what he said he would: trade those prospects if the right deal came along. Third, AA can’t make a deal if the condition is a dollar in and a dollar out. Show me how AA can do a deal if his hands are tied this way. No one does more with less. They do less with less.

      • WHEN YOU MAKE NO GOOD ADDITIONS IN THE OFFSEASON HE SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
(Ranting but it’s unacceptable he’s lied and done nothing in 18 months

    • Frustrations aside, the gist of the matter is that the Blue Jays are just hoping to tread water whilst their rivals are ramping up and trying to obtain separation from the pack.

This produces two distinctly different mindsets for the players on those contending teams.

Was it just 2 weeks ago that the Jays were 1.5 games back? Now a sorry 6..

  85. Some tailspins you don’t pull out of.

  86. Given the context (aging stars wanting to win, passing a hat around to try to sign Santana, clubhouse leaders public ally vocal about management standing pat etc) if the season gets out of hand, this could become our chicken n beer season. That clubhouse is not going to he a good place to he.

  87. Eddie and Lind.
Here comes a .300 average and 60 homers.
    With 7 weeks to play.

This loss gutted me but we’re within a game or 2 of a playoff spot with a lot of thunder about to come off the DL.

  88. Thole should not have hit there.

  89. Tired of Wilners bullshit
@Beezersun: Pessimism happens when a team hasn’t won for 21 years. Perhaps that’s why #BlueJays fans sometimes overreact.

  90. What wilner isn’t understanding is that you can’t go by how many games back we are of the wildcard

It’s the number of teams that are going to have to be jumped.

We had a fucking 6 game lead in the division and probably 8 game lead on the second wildcard .. We’ve really given that back in a hurry

  91. Pinning hopes on return of Lind, EE, Lawrie, Morrow to bullpen as I am sure many are. If the return of offensive strength kinda culminates together with decent pitching as of late in one pixie dust storm the likes of only May now the distant past has ever seen, the team could still pull through. Who knows, I didn’t expect Hutch to pull off a win against the O’s, much less a near CG shutout, think the Jays will contend the next five in close games as well. Just not this kind of loss

    • It can happen. Still lots of baseball left.

That said, this team right now is just not that good. When fully healthy, we’re a different team.

It’s possible, but we’re going to have to play over ourselves. Balt is just a better team.

Yanks are shit too tho, so why not us?

  92. ugh i feel bad for gibby

  93. it’s not on Gibby

  94. Had four runs and two on with one out in the fucking 2nd inning .. And a 4 fucking run lead . What’s win expectancy percentage on that one ?

  95. Kinda curious he didn’t put Juan in for Valencia. Val had 2 hits, yes, but considering Nathan’s slider was about the only thing really working for him in that inning and I cant seem to recall Val making any contract on any righty sliders since he’s been a Jay, thought for sure he was getting lifted then for Juan.

  96. Well Reimold is the last off the bench, so if we tie it up then Navarro has to come in and DH, and thus we lose the DH. Is that worth it? Meh. Probably. But no manager makes that call.

    • The odds of reimold getting a hit and only one run scoring is low . And also .. Who cares .. Worry about that after you tie it

  97. Who is the dumber jays talk caller ?

The guy yesterday who said hitters would all bat over 400 if there were robot umps or the guy tonight who blasted Jansen for having a drink in a bar 22 hours before the game

  98. 20 years of this garbage

  99. lol that lady grilled wilner..asked him who is on the bench that isn’t garbage…lol he paused then answered..and said what’s the point of having prado or cabrera on the bench if you are giving up assets..lol …it cost the yanks players who never will probably be any good in the big leagues..i am sure jays can spare scrubs

  100. At least 2 dust ups outside RC tonight…lots of beer and a bad mood following tonight’s debacle = Sudbury Friday night for a few of the denizens of the fair burgh..

    • What happened?

      • Some ass hat in a Yankees cap mouthed off to some of the local lads as they were exiting to street level..he was filled in hard..minutes later the cops were breaking up a fist fight on BJ way that we couldn’t get to..
