Seriously now, try winning a damn game.

  1. FIRST POST

  2. @Karl.

I do think it is possible that they are saving their pennies for a free agent resign of Melky & keeping Casey.

  3. Let’s get serious.

  4. TSN is reporting that Manny Machado will soon undergo “season-ending” surgery on his right knee.

  5. Hellickson looks younger than my paperboy.

  6. This team frustrates me greatly.

  7. Fuck, spiderman packin’ some serious heat in those shorts. That’s almost obscene.

  8. Settle in for another pitching duel it looks. Sigh. It’s only a matter of time before the Jays give up a few runs and lose. Tampa is hot right now.

  9. Oh FFS.

  10. Holy hell that was a well executed squeeze.

So THAT’S what Zain and Co means about needing to be able to execute on fundamental plays

  11. Who got the brunt of that collision?

  12. Does Valencia have a concussion?

    • Any armchair doctor present that can answer this?

      • “The kneebone’s connected to the… something. The something’s connected to the… red thing. The red thing’s connected to my wrist watch… Uh oh.”

  13. Rays game plan, hit grounders near shortstop, sure single!

  14. Seems like both the Jays and Tigers fell apart after that 19 inning game.

Tigers got destroyed last night by Minny, 20-6 or something, they are currently losing 6-1 and I think they have a doubleheader today.

Neither team can score consistently and both have seen their pitching implode of late with an overworked bullpen.

    • “The frogurt is also cursed!”

      • The Jays had three off-days in just over a week, so their arms should’ve had time to rest up, on paper. Thanks to having to make up rainouts, the Tigers are in some crazy stretch of something like 50 games in 50 days. They’re screwed.

    • I want to watch the Tigers/Twins series, but the Tigers are so bad that I just can’t. But yeah, they are also probably cursed.

  15. Let that girl call batters for the whole game I say.

  16. At least the tigers are shitting the bed too

  17. Man I miss Red Bull at 3rd.

  18. Holy fuck. Some complacent, lazy defense lately.

Ibe never really shit on Gibby before, but he’s got to wear that a bit. BAD defense is one thing. Gibby can’t magically turn someone into a good fielder.

But just laziness? That’s somethibg he can control.

    • Really? Managers are just middle managers. And I think you mean “influence” not control.

    • By hitting them?

      • Nope: cattle prods.

      • No, by losing his shit on them (or calmly talking about it, whatever their managerial style).

Managers can’t talk players into being better then they are. But mental mistakes and laziness, that absolutely is in the players control. And more often then not, if addressed by the manager, it gets fixed. If youverification just been shot on by your coach (or boss or superior or whatever) it’s usually in the top of your mind to not repeat it. Assuming you respect your boss/manager/coach of course.

        • GIbby does seem quite laidback. But also honest in his assessments. Being a fly on the wall of the clubhouse would be interesting indeed.

  19. I am surprised with an overturn.

  20. Whats being reviewed here?

  21. Can they not figure this fucking replay system out? This game is under review because the decision by the umps to review a play?

  22. so now Rays playing under protest FFS

  23. So, now Valencia has joined the Cadillac club. Until Gibbons strats benching these fucks and showing that this BS isn’t acceptable, the Shit show will continue. I see better ball at my local park FFS

  24. MLB Rules: xcept as otherwise set forth in Sections II.D.2-4 below, to be timely, a Manager must exercise his challenge (by verbal communication to the appropriate Umpire), or the Crew Chief must initiate Replay Review (if applicable pursuant to Section II.C above) before the commencement of the next play or pitch. Such challenge or request will be considered timely only if the Umpire acknowledges that communication within the time period specified above. For purposes of these Regulations, the next “play” shall commence when the pitcher is on the rubber preparing to start his delivery and the batter has entered the batter’s box (unless the defensive team initiates an appeal play in which case any call made during the play prior to the appeal still may be subject to Replay Review).

Buerhle was on the rubber. Was Escobar in the box.

  25. So if Jays win the game is null and void? How does that work for protest

    • If the protest is upheld, and the Jays win, then the rest of the game is null and void. It picks up again with Myers on 1st, 1 out in the top of the 4th, Jays up 2-1.

  26. 4.19
    PROTESTING GAMES.
Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire’s decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final.
Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team’s chances of winning the game.
Rule 4.19 Comment: Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch, play or attempted play. A protest arising on a game-ending play may be filed until 12 noon the following day with the league office.

  27. All because buerhle works so fast….what an asshole

  28. Whereas the protest that was upheld in the cubs giants game actually affected the outcome of that game lol

  29. If the game is to be re-played, are all the stats thrown out from that inning on?

    • I think they would be but I’ll bet you any money they won’t replay the game

      • Whether or not tampa is right, I’m assuming that’s not the only factor in whether the game gets re-played. The situation has to matter doesn’t it? Must be tough for the players to play without knowing whether or not a win will actually be a win.

  30. It’ll probably be like
The nba you’ll hear that “the officials wrongly applied rule whatever, but we believe that it did not adversely affect the outcome of the game”!

  31. So if the jays win 10-1 and the protest is upheld, the game continues from 2-1? That’s fucking ridiculous

  32. There’s a difference between being on the rubber and “on the rubber preparing to start his delivery.”

This will be an interesting call, but Tampa has a case. What does “preparing to start his delivery mean”. Does that mean Navarro has given the sign and Burhrle has nodded. For me, that seems to mean “preparing to start his delivery”.

So, look for a September afternoon game for the game to start in the top of the fourth, Jennings on first, one out.

  33. When was the last time a game was replayed in any way? The George Brett pine tar thing?

They obviously look at it as a very last resort option. This won’t be replayed.

    • It won’t be replayed if Tampa wins. It will be replayed if the Jays win. Myers on first (not Jennings)

      • Lol its looking like a moot point now.

But i disagree. It’s obviously a nuclear option (so to speak) for them or else it would have happened sometime in the last 35 years. It’s not like this is the only game that’s had a valid protest.

Even if Jays win there’s almost no chance they replay it.

        • It’s like the bates clock. Team, it’s in the rulebook. But it’s not enforced in any way whatsoever

          • Fucking auto correct. It’s like the batters clock. It’s in the rulebook but not enforced in any way.

      • It’s like tampa gets a free roll to win the game. If it’s under protest then the game should be replayed if that’s what mlb decides. Regardless of who wins

    • There have been rain delay/weather suspension games played out recently, where you have to go back.

The question I have is, if an August game is replayed in September, what roster rules apply?

  34. What the flying fuck? 6 innings and one run isn’t good enough for Buerhle? Couldn’t hand 7 and 8th to Sanchez? This is fucking horseshit.

  35. So many garbage calls for the plate blocking rule, and this play at 1st in the fourth inning is gonna get a game overturned? I doubt it. Maybe the jays will do the league a solid and pull out the lose

  36. Im watching this game under protest

  37. Snazzy.

  38. So Thursday night Zac Brown Band concert in TO. Tolleson, Loup and Redmond publicly Shitfaced. The next day – played like they were shitfaced the night before.

    • How do you know if they were shit faced?

But yeah, the optics are not good.

      • Also it’s clear they have shitty taste in music.

      • Sorry Deep Sea Diver. I probably should have said allegedly appeared to be under the influence of a judgment distorting substance.
Although, speaking from experience, I knows shitfaced. Even when I am it. Actually, especially then.

    • They shoulda gone to Pitchtalks instead.

  39. This would be a good time for the parrot to come back.

  40. I have a ginormous hate-crush on Ben Zobrist.

  41. Kid got us out of the shit, lets get him the vulture win.

  42. Adios pelota!

  43. That’s what I’m takin about.

    Vuture time

  44. Motherfuckibg Dinner

  45. Cap’t. Clutch!

  46. DINNER TIME

  47. Clutch deez nutz! – Navarro

  48. Dinner kind if looks like fat Benny the Jet from The Sandlin.

  49. Where is the “Fat Guys Who Hit For Average” guy?
He should be madly in love with Dioner.

  50. How much of maddons protest was:
    A) being a weiner and spliting rulebook hairs, and/or
    B) just making a show of protest to crush the jays psychi, cause hey, even if they win they might not win.

I hope its b…not because I think that that really works, but more because I dont want maddon to be a weiner

  51. Dinner comes through!! Buck called him Mr Clutch

  52. Once the team that calls protest takes the lead, then the protest should be void. Doesn’t that make sense?

    • No

    • Games are played under protest pretty often . It happens several times a year it seems like.

They are almost never upheld. Oh in special that I see about this one.

If the Braves/Cards protest wasn’t upheld last playoffs (the infield fly call) this one won’t be. That was more egregious and at a far more important time .

  53. If the game gets replayed at time of protest does that mean rays and jay would have to play a doubleheader?

    • Kinda. But I think we’re fine:

“The judgment of the Crew Chief regarding the timeliness of a Manager’s Challenge shall be final and binding on both Clubs, and shall not be reviewable by Replay Review or otherwise.”

    • Holy shit, it’s not going to happen.

As referenced above, if the playoff game last year wasn’t upheld when the Braves played under protest, this one won’t be.

For one, that won was clearly the wrong play. The infield fly was called incorrectly pretty cleary. AND it was in the playoffs.

This is just a procedural mistake. The runner WAS out regardless if the fact that the ump made a procedural mistake. It won’t be replayed.

      • RobA, why are you getting so upset about people talking about it? This is clearly the most exciting thing to happen to the Jays in the last few weeks

      • I hope you’re right. But buck is talking about when the game will be replayed

  54. Balfour remains the worst name for a pitcher ever.

  55. There’s enough on the verbage to make Maddon’s protest wrong: “on the rubber preparing his delivery”. Navarro never gave a sign that Buehrle accepted, so he wasn’t “preparing his delivery”, and Buerhle stepped off the rubber before Gibby came out to make the challenge. Therefore the next “play” didn’t begin.

So I see enough gray in the protest to see it turned down.

  56. Janssen hasn’t been the same since his sickness after the asg

  57. If gibby lost the challenge could he have appealed the game since he shouldnt have been allowed the chance to lose his challenge

  58. Fuck

    Wow.

  59. Thanks for the extra out creepy blue eyed guy

  60. Gross

    nice play though Melky

  61. Like Casey, but he’s been complete dogshit since the All Star break.

  62. Every time Janssen blows a save, he becomes easier to re-sign.

    • I’ve said it before but with the $ he’ll command and his wonky arm I’d stay away.
He’s been a loyal servant who’s pitched well but his arm scares the shit out of me.

    • Now that’s making a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.

    • Easier to not as well.

    • he was never gonna get paid like an elite closer. i think everyone knows his shoulder is shot. his velocity has been eroding for the last couple years and he’s been excellent despite that, but one wonders where the line for him is between effectiveness and batting practice and when he will reach that line. his K-rate this season has danger signs all over it.

  63. Looked like Kiermaier would have gotten back if he’d actually dove instead of semi-dove.

  64. Fuck janssen doesn’t have it today

  65. ERA of 6.5 since ASG

    • Maybe AA should have granted CK his wish and gotten BP help.

    • It’s not just this year though . Historically he shits the bed in the 2nd half

He has to be so fine with his placement and sequencing.

Seems like in the 2nd half he wears down ever so slightly but that small reduction in pitch quality places him in quite hittable territory

      • You mean how last year KC was 24 save out of 25 opportunities? Was the “shit the bed” part that one game he didn’t save?

  66. tampa hitters just spitting on Janssen’s curve

  67. Well that sucks.

  68. I’m thinking Adam should bunt.

  69. Too bad he can’t catch very well.

  70. I think I want Dustin to close next year.

  71. Funny that the two players who called out aa for the deadline nothingness have gone in two directions
Jose has had the best obp in the mlb
While janssen has shit the bed since then

  72. Longoria is the last person I want to see batting right now.

  73. Imagine if they go 19 innings today and the game gets protested
    /ouch

  74. It seems pretty clear to me that the Jays are slow footing it to lose on purpose.

  75. Cleat!

  76. Come on, Cletus.
    Razzmatazz!

  77. /Colby Lewis yells at the tv

  78. Sweet play

  79. Holy shit Colby! that took balls

  80. Colby rasmus is my favorite player of all time for bunting that shit .

    Fuck the shift

  81. Can someone explain to me the point of Francisco on this team

    He sits vs righties
    Sits vs lefties
    Has no speed
    No defensive abilities

It’s like you are blessed to have no options in this organization

  82. Come on I want a Valen C-Ya

  83. Also an at bat I’d like to forget.

  84. Does Colby scorers a hard hit single?

  85. 448 games in his career and 0 sac bunts for Valencia.
Love Gibby but why try to get Danny to try something like that at such an important point in the season?

    • Why does the point in the season factor into gibbys decision?

      • Are you serious right now?

        • Very serious. He should always be managing to win the game but seasonal context shouldnt factor in unless your talking managing pitchers or reating players etc

          • *rest

            • So a play-in game for the wildcard and game 1 of the season are weighted the same for you? Sounds all well and good in theory but you wouldn’t find one manager in baseball that would agree with you.

              • I didnt say that. If you dont like the bunt, thats a qualm with his in-game management. The decision shouldnt change based on team record or other seasonal over tones

                • Valecia has NEVER bunted in his career.
For Gibby to ask him to do it is one thing, to ask him to do it with the Jays season hanging in the balance is another.

                  Agree to disagee

                  • Again, I have no problem with getting on gibby for the decision, but it has nothing to do with season.

                    Agree to disagree

              • The object of every game is the same. If you think something gives you the best chance of winning, that’s what you should do regardless of the value of that individual game.

    • I would mind it less if he had actually tried.

  86. Now they have a hockey player pitching against us.
    Maddon knows his shit.

  87. Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

  88. Want to see that slide in slo mo!

  89. JOSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  90. Sweet slide.

  91. Man clete can fly

  92. Fuck they’re beating the hell out of Jose.

  93. Look at those 80′s porn pubes on the back of Reyes skull.

  94. Sweet

  95. It sure is sweet to have Joe Maddon press a button and only get the sad trombone.

  96. Melky’s pretty intense lol

  97. Season ain’t over yet
Jays need to go 5-2 rest of homestand to have a chance

  98. I wish Rasmus would run and bunt more often. He knows how to slide properly and reads the bases well

  99. Going to tomorrow’s game. Book that win.

    • Atta boy, doing the Lords work.

Go to the rest of them if you can afford it.

    • I have three games left. I think I should sell them all.
My record is 2-9 this year.

      • Can you switch them for games at Camden?

      • I have 20 games left. Have been to every home game for the last 4 years. Not sure what the record is, but pretty confident the Jays record has nothing to do with my attendance.

        • You have to be more selective.

        • Every home game? You must not have a life! Sheesh. I’m somewhat impressed but holy shit man…

          • That’s the first time anyone ever told me I need to get a life because I go to ball games. And on a baseball blog, of all places. Too funny.

            • I didn’t say that you “need” to get a life. I don’t tell people what they need to do.
I just can’t imagine not having something more important to attend than a jays game in 4 years. But hey, kudos to you!

  100. Question: Do the Jays claim Colon? 3.39 FIP

    • Fuck and no if he costs $11M at age 42 next year.

      • It’s obviously not without risk but it’s only one year and his numbers stand up.

Of course, if you really think Norris can SP next year there isn’t necessarily an available slot.
