Could this really be it? Could we actually no longer have the damn Jays-can’t-win-a-series-in-Tampa thing to talk about after tonight?

It really could be! And with what few scraps of playoff hopes remain for this club to cling to, it had probably better be.

A tough opponent in Chris Archer stands in their way, but the Jays counter with Marcus Stroman, so they’ve certainly got a chance.

Let’s do this! Shit, even if you don’t want to believe this is a game of “meaningful September baseball” let’s just do it so we never have to speak of the damn Tropicana Field bugaboo again.

Scuttlebutt

R.A. Dickey was hit in the head by a ball off the bat of Evan Longoria during batting practice today, but he’s fine, tweets everyone (like Gregor Chisholm of BlueJays.com, for example, who I linked to).

Colby Rasmus says that he’s been benched in favour of “rookies,” according to a piece from John Lott of the National Post. “’I’m not down about it. No hard feelings,’ he insisted, not very convincingly.” Thing is, though, I still really do believe in Colby’s talent, but when you get 362 plate appearances and only have a .287 on-base to show for it, these sorts of things will happen.

Lately Facebook changed its algorithm with respect to sharing, it’s really become a much more powerful social media tool, and so it’s probably in your best interest to just go right ahead and like DJF on Facebook. That way you can get everything that’s posted here injected straight into your feed-veins.

And while we’re at it, you might as well follow me on Twitter, follow @DrunkJaysFans, and follow the dusty ol’ DJF Instagram too!

Next game(s): Tomorrow, 7:10 PM ET @ Tampa

  1. Fuck yeah, now let’s sweep these buggers.

  2. WOO series win!

  3. Hey you guys, they won because I didn’t watch. You’re welcome!

  4. Trololol
@Sid_Seixeiro: So basically the Jays are going to have a great September and miss a wildcard spot by two games.     #jays

I hope they win 15 in a two so he shuts up with his troll act

    • Sid’s not worth a follow. His schtick is yelling dumb things and backing them up with.

“WHADOOIKNOIW I’m Just a guy with thick eyebrows and hair gel Nomsayin? !> but LOL ship is sinking go PORTUGAL my life is a lie i wish it wasn’t like this…. how did i get here”

    • And then Stoeten calls out his own readers for being dumb. This must be one of the few franchises where the media dumbs shit down even more than Boston. Fuck that fucking talentless Europork hack.

    • Yeah but when he shits in an envelope why do you have to put it in the DJF mailbox

  5. So who is on the adios list so far…. Cletus, Casey..?

    • Francisco (can’t get in a game vs RHPs)

    • Delabar, Santos, Izturis, Morrow (?)

      • I think izturis stays but yeah.. morrow delabar santos ttyl why does this make me so sad.

      • Izturis still has a year left on his contract and he was doing ok before his ACL went.

      • I think Morrow is worth the $10 million gamble. Maybe you get him in his “something to prove” walk-year. best. He may be due for a reversal of terrible luck/medical issues. He only has thrown 230 innings in the last 3 years and is going into that age 30 year. Take advantage of it, and he may even get you a draft pick in 2016. He is worth 7 to 8% of payroll for one year with low cost Stroman, Sanchez and Hutchison.

        • I think most people would respectfully disagree. I hope that Morrow finds a good situation for him and I certainly don’t have any ill will, but $10 million is too much for a guy when there are so many red flags.

          • WAR is generally thought to be worth $6 or $7 million. So, somewhere between 2010 and 2011 Brandon Morrow makes the $10 million worth it. 2012 Morrow would be a gigantic bargain at $10 million. It just really is not that big a deal for a club to spend $10 million for 1 year on almost anyone with some kind of decent track record, which Morrow has had in the past.

            • There’s no room for him in the rotation, they shouldn’t make room for him in the rotation, they shouldn’t pay that much for a 60-inning reliever, and they have a thing called a budget they have to be mindful of. Sorry, but arguing to earmark money for a redundant piece like Morrow that’s in all likelihood going to take them out of the running to re-sign Melky is a bit rich. If they had infinite payroll, then I suppose it would be a reasonable risk, since he’d have no choice but to pitch in the role they tell him. But they don’t have infinite payroll. So this is nonsense.

              • What is the 2015 rotation then, and who is pencilled in for injury insurance?? What if 2015 Buehrle is more like 2nd half 2014 Buehrle who has allowed a .349 OBP and .819 OPS since May ended, or maybe even a tick or more worse at age 36? What if Sanchez or Stroman struggle? My suggestion is to choose Morrow over Happ. Are you saying the Jays’ plan does not plan for Happ either? The monetary difference between the two is $2.3 M.

  6. Wow. The last time the Jays won a series in TB Reed Johnson was on the team and Janssen was just starting to close???? MADNESS

  7. Stoets, you are a sad, sad individual for not letting people express an opinion.

    • You’ve got it all wrong, I have nothing against people expressing an opinion, differing from mine or otherwise. I have a problem with shitstains who just troll, shit out negative garbage just to get a reaction, and talk shit at me. Try to hide behind freedom of expression all you want, I’ll just be here laughing at you. The trick never works — playing the poor honest-to-goodness commenter doesn’t work when I can see your history, dipshit.

      • Stoeten. I love you. I do. I’m drunk…but I love you. But honestly. Why do you even respond? I do it to, and I don’t understand why. These people crave attention, and we give it to ‘em. Why.

    • Naw, I have bad ideas all the time and I’ve been here forever.

  8. Jays may not be facing Pedey in the upcoming series, concussion symptoms:

    http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/09/03/dustin-pedroia-continues-to-have-concussion-symptoms/

Noticed Jemile Weeks was at 2nd for them tonight; did not know about Pedey’s injury. He has not been “hot fire” this season, but he was 5 for 14 vs Jays last series with 2 HRs/5 RBIs and was basically was the winning margin in the Sux 2 wins.

Sorry to hear about the injury but the Jays could use that kind of luck right now.

  9. Hell just got a little cooler, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.
