Not that I’m afraid of what the Red Sox lineup would look like with Josh Hamilton in it (though I am), but this sounds like a pretty fantastic turn of events for the outfield down there in Fuckface Farrell’s Masshole Nation:

Cafardo had earlier called the Sox front runners, and says that there’s “optimism” a deal could happen.

Is the insufferable saga of the courting of John Farrell by the Boston Red Sox finally nearing its conclusion? It sure as shit is starting to feel like it, as reports now indicate that the talks are moving well forward, and it’s getting harder and harder to see how the Jays could, at this point, pull back and continue on with Farrell, who they’re very obviously not insistent on keeping, as their manager.

As has been the case lately, it’s Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe who appears to have been first to stick his neck out:

In the Toronto Sun, Bob Elliott writes about Cafardo’s report, explaining that “we believe, as the Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo wrote, that the teams are ‘beyond preliminary stage of compensation talks for Farrell’ since the two teams have been talking for a week,” however, “we do not believe that talks “have reached the ownership stage” as we’ve seen reported.”

Yep. This will have to do. Consider it your Game Threat.

Oh, look. It’s the Red Sox.

And oh, look. They suck too.

Get set for the laser show, as the Laff Man takes on Dice-K in what promises to be quite the stretchy and tangy explosion of offence. One hopes.

Scuttlebutt

In his Ten Stray Thoughts on a Friday at Getting Blanked, Parkes looks into just what the hell has made Edwin Encarnacion so good this season.

Speaking of Edwin, he won’t be taking part in tonight’s laser show, apparently. Shi Davidi tweets that Encarnacion is out of tonight’s lineup as a precautionary measure– his wrist is a little sore from being hit by a pitch in last night’s game. Or was it maybe from crushing the shit out of shit?

Davidi also tweets some scary stuff: “Bruce Walton says contact from bat felt like taking full force of EE swing. Barrell hit him across arms after he put them up. At eye level.” The man they call Pappy is back at work today, fortunately.

According to Jack Moore of FanGraphs, those sharp cookies in Vegas still aren’t buying the Orioles.

At MLBTR, Ben Nicholson-Smith– Benny Fresh!–has a Free Agent Stock Watch post up on Carlos Villanueva.

Just when I get to kinda-sorta remembering what it feels like to watch a team that has something vaguely resembling a real, live, genuine, almost-MLB-calibre lineup, the Jays have Brett Lawrie sitting today, as it’s their intention to ease him back into the swing of things.

I can’t fault the logic– apparently Lawrie is totally fine and John Farrell says it was entirely his intention to give him a day off today all along– but… jeez. That’s not exactly going to help anyone’s enjoyment of tonight’s game.

Scuttlebutt

These two teams mostly escaped the weather last night, but that doesn’t mean the threat is gone…

Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star has the low-down, in quotes, from the likes of John Farrell and Brett Lawrie, following last night’s victory.

Lastly, not Jays-related, but holy fuck that Brandon McCarthy stuff is scary. CBS Sports has the latest on what’s still a very serious situation– “In days 2-3 after epidural hematoma… sustaining life, that is the concern,” tweets Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle. At FanGraphs, Jeff Sullivan reflects on the situation, through a wealth of personal experience.
