Get ready to whip out your maple-dicks (TM), because the Jays have apparently purchased the contract of Shawn Hill– the Mississauga native who had been pitching in the independent Atlantic League.

The news come by way of a release from Hill’s now former club, the York Revolution, so we have no clue as yet how the Jays intend to use the right-hander, but I think it’s safe to say that, yes, the rotation situation in the Majors is dire enough that he may be called upon to pitch in the bigs. Which… could be worse? Maybe?

The York Daily Record points out that Hill had a streak of 27.2 ¬†consecutive scoreless innings prior to today’s transaction. In the Atlantic League! Home of offensive juggernauts like Ryan Garko and Joey Gathright!

This marks the beginning of Hill’s second stint as a member of the Jays’ organization– he pitched to a 2.61 ERA over 20.2 innings in 2010, before an elbow injury cost him all of 2011. “The transaction makes Hill the third arm from the Revolution staff to join a Major League Organization this season,” says the release. “Reliever Ian Thomas joined the Atlanta Braves on May 17, and starter Ryan Feierabend inked a deal with the Cincinnati Reds on June 5.”

Talent farm!
