Adrian Serioux-ly Upset

Toronto FC has traded the rights to defender Adrian Serioux to the Houston Dynamo for a 2011 third round pick, according to the Toronto Sun’s Gareth Wheeler. And despite the fact that the Canadian defender is going to a far better organization, it sounds like Serioux’s more than just a little peeved that he and TFC couldn’t come to terms on a new contract. Check the quotes from the article:

"What bothered me most was hearing I was released. They went about it shady, making it look like they had the upper-hand — I was out of contract.”

“You’ve got to let people know what’s going on with the team — if you don’t have the fans you don’t have anything."

"Everyone’s not on the same page (at TFC). Some people wanted me, except the one person that has more power than anyone else."

"The best teams in this league are guys who’ve been together for awhile. They get a sense of camaraderie and feel. Until that happens here, it’s going to be a struggle."

"I might be back someday. But while a certain someone’s there, you probably won’t see me."

There’s a a hint of sour grapes in there from Serioux to be sure, but have to give him a “+1” on his point about the best teams being the ones with players who have been together for a while. In a sport where team cohesion is such a key element to success, it’s pretty tough to develop a winning side with the absurd amount of wheeling and dealing done by Mo Johnston.

In addition to Serioux’s thinly veiled jabs at MoJo, I also found this nugget particularly interesting in Wheeler’s piece:

According to Serioux, he was placed in a bad position when Johnston handed over all soccer-related decisions to Preki.

Preki has been handed all soccer related decisions you say? O RLY? Interesting. Very interesting.

Jacko Feature

Red Nation Online continues to kick out the quality, delving into video with “Pro-files”, a series featuring top Canadian talent. First up, Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson.

There’s also an accompanying article to the video, and I just wanted to make a comment on this passage:

Jackson admitted that coming out to a pro-Chilean crowd in the tournament’s opening game in Toronto was a blow to the team’s confidence, but he remains hopeful that Canadian support is growing, especially with the following generated by Toronto FC.

I was at that game, and there actually was a large contingent of Canadian support waiting to cheer the team on. Unfortunately the home side touched the ball about four times in the first 20 minutes, and didn’t give the crowd a single thing to cheer about for the entire match. It was total domination from the Chileans. The Canadian support sat stunned and defeated.

Weirdest Re-direct Ever?

Ok.

So the address of the Vancouver Whitecaps official website is www.whitecapsfc.com. But if you to type www.vancouverwhitecapsfc.com into your browser, you get re-directed here, to a YouTube video featuring the music of some guy named Matt Petrin.

What in the world?

Quickly Now

- There is a proposal on the table to put field turf in at Edmonton’s Commonwealth Stadium.

  1. pretty surprising that they got rid of serioux considering how thin their backline is right now.

  2. he was being played out of position in CB, hes originally a DM, of which we have plenty, not to mention how much he costs and his injuries. I do like him and his zeal and if he was mistreated as is suggested i feel bad. outside of that he was surplus but i do hope to see him back (and Mo fired but thats another story)

  3. ^ I think he’s also been naturally slotted in as a RWB too no?

  4. i think hes played successfully there

  5. sounds like tfc has been mistreating all their players…..im soo sick and tired of mojo assholes bullshit. mlse could not have found a better man to run the time to fit their persona exactly

  6. - Everyone knows my stance on the turf v grass issue – specifically, that I think it’s a waste of hot air – but putting turf in Commonwealth would be sacrilegious.

    - Matt Petrin had better be made aware that not only does cyber-squatting never work, but that people who do it wind up paying lawyer’s fees in Canada.

    - Garcia actually going on the record saying the word ‘strike’ is a very, very bad sign. At this point, I just hope they actually play a season… but then again, with the way TFC looks, maybe not.

  7. Am I the only one who believes that Mo pointed the finger at Preki when it came to Serioux? Mo strikes me as the kind of guy who would resort to this type of tactic.

This was definitely salary cap driven. Given Serioux’s injury problems, Canadian status and recent play, I don’t think he was valued as much as Garcia. Not that I agree with that…

  8. Any idea who the players training / trailing with TFC are? There where a number of unfamiliar faces and numbers in the background in the latest TFC TV video with JDG numbers 20, 25, 26, and 30.

  9. apparently Cann is still with the team and rumor has it soon to be signing. The rest are in Charleston cuz of visas. Apparently Said the egyptian CB is there and also soon to be signed. Curious to see who makes the cut seeing as we’ve only got room for 5 (unless the cap and roster increase or we rid of some people)
