Good comments about attacking fullbacks, gents, but surprised that you failed to mention Roberto Carlos. I remember around the turn of the century MAnchester United played Real Madrid in the CL and everyone wondered how Real were going to contain Beckham. Turned out to be pretty easy – Roberto Carlos bombed forward so much, the kid was left chasing his vapour trails. He was tracking back so much he never had a chance to attack.
As for centre halves who could play the ball, I recall a certain Fernando Redondo could do it all. He played deep enough to be considered a centre half and tore opponents (including my beloved Manchester United) to shreds. That was a time when Defensive Midfielders were players, not just destroyers.

Redondo was a great player! He schooled Henning Berg big time in a CL game. It’s a shame his career ended shortly after moving to AC Milan from Madrid. What about Andreas Brehme, he was before Carlos? What about that spanish guy from RM that played centre half, I think his name was Hiero? He was pretty good with the ball from what I remember.

I already knew WHAT was scheduled on TV instead when I posted my second question. My question was WHY was the football not being broadcast.
