This was the legit way Russia & Qatar attempted and succeeded in winning the right to host the 2018 & 2022 World Cups. Which of course, is not at all to say that there weren’t a few other things that helped their cause.

as pissed as I am about what transpired yesterday with regards to the announcement of the hosts
IF, and its a VERY VERY BIG IF, Qatar can build that 5th stadium with the 420,000 sq ft of media space around it, that would be an AMAZING sight.
But like Dunlop said in the podcast, it’s all “potential” and “promises” right now…we’ll see what happens in the future.
I was just watching Qatar’s bid and I’m actually quite impressed with the potential, but about the last stadium- how environmentally unfriendly is it to have a 402,000 sq foot screen going 24/7 for a whole month…but what I found more surprising was at about 4:46, where as the screen zooms out to show more of the outer screen surface of the stadium…you can see “Shirtless Obama” on the top right of the screen…just a little bit after they show Dempsey celebrating. Is it just me, or was that a subliminal stab at the U.S by Qatar, through a world cup bid?!
